MapleStory 2 – Velma’s Judgment, Artbooks, and Bug Hunting!

Final Test

In just a couple of days, more posts were made by the MapleStory 2 team, including changes to the reporting system, collecting fan art, and bug hunting during the final closed beta test!

Today they will be releasing the users who were chosen to participate in the final test! Also, users who have already been accepted will be able to begin installing and creating characters tomorrow in preparation for the game opening on May 1 at 12pm KST!

Successful Final Tester

To check if you got in, you just need to log in and see if you have the same message above (on the top right of the MapleStory 2 homepage). It says that “xxx is a Final tester.”

They also said that in addition to the 30,000 new testers and the previous testing phases’ users, you’ll be able to access MapleStory 2’s Final Test in PC Rooms in Korea.

Final Tester Cape Costume

All users in the Final Test will also receive this special cape costume item~!

BlockThe smart reporting system from the first CBT has been improved! First of all, you can now choose to block someone you are reporting or not, which will cause their profile images, chat messages, mail, and other invitations to appear invisible to you. Blocked characters will also not appear on any part of the Community window.

The window will remind you that if you falsely report someone, you will be subject to severe punishment!

Velma's Judgment

Through user feedback and game data, we found that users who abuse user-generated content were able to continue to upset other users through the chat (and vice-versa), so we have introduced Velma’s Judgement! It is a debuff that will block you from all community content, including:

  • All chatting
  • Using billboards
  • Creating UGC items
  • Using the UGC item market
  • Equipping UGC items

The debuff will only affect these things, it will still allow users to level up and hunt normally. It can last from a few hours to a few days depending on the severity and frequency of infractions. Users who continue to be a negative impact to the game may lose their testing privileges and maybe even the ability to play the game when it comes out in the future.

Alikar Prison

Alikar Prison, which was designed as a place for isolation, will now be a place for reflection. Everyone is free to come and go to the prison, but users inflicted by the Velma’s Judgment debuff can come here and pick ‘Grass of Atonement’ in order to reduce the timer on the debuff.

This system will allow users to continue playing the game without fear of users abusing UGC content while allowing abusers the ability to reflect on their actions. They said they’ll continue to work on improving this system in order to make the game better!

Mika Fanart

Many fans have been drawing beautiful fan-art for MapleStory 2. What if you could see your fan-art in-game?

Mika Artbook

Well, now you can! New artbooks are available in-game which combine fan-art and art drawn by the MapleStory 2 developers.

Doki

The first of these artbooks is based around Mika, who you might remember from the second cinematic video. It has 1 piece of fan-art and 8 works from the development team. Doki is a boy who has a huge crush on Mika, you can find him in-game to buy the artbook!

At the end of the artbook is an email, which you can use to send your fan-art of Mika to! Once enough fan-art has been collected, a second edition of the artbook will be released~

Perhaps other popular characters will receive artbooks in the future?

Bug Hunting

Finally, the MapleStory 2 team talked about bug hunting! Like the first CBT, they are putting into place a system where users who report major bugs (that the MS2 team is not already aware of) will be rewarded with money!

Bugs can include those that affect the economy by allowing you to copy items or mesos, obtaining quest rewards repeatedly, or item upgrading bugs.

Only the first user to report a bug will be rewarded. The compensation you receive will be based on the following factors:

  • If it is a low, normal, or high priority bug
  • The importance of the bug
  • How long it took you to report it

Users can receive up to 1 million Won, which is about $1000! The MS2 team has about 20 million Won ($20,000) available to award bug reporters. Although they have tried their best to thoroughly test the game, some bugs might slip through the crack so by working together with the testers, they hope to create a bug-free game!

That’s probably the best way to get bugs reported, give the users an acceptable incentive to do it. Bravo MS2!

Hi Max, really enjoying all the work you put in this blog. I was just wondering if there are any updates on the release date of Maplestory 2? (Korean and Global). Cheers

as much as I’d like to say it’s an improvement, their “punish people who’s UGC triggered someone” thing is still likely to be abused for griefing. you just can’t automate that shit.

    >bribing testers to actually report bugs
it’s sad that things are that way, but then again, this is the price of not hiring/paying testers and just using the future playerbase for the task.
