KMST ver. 1.2.184 – New Boss, Baldrix!

February 13, 2025 Leave a comment Go to comments

The new test server patch has been released, and of course, it features the new boss Baldrix! There’s also some system changes and improvements. Changseop went live with a Maple Now to talk about the patch, as well as some additional announcements.

This will be coming to the official server next week! I’m not going to include any boss mechanics yet since people are still figuring it out but I’ll try to add it in the next post.

Maple Now (25.02.13)

Introduction

  • He apologized for the increase in amount and frequency of new bugs in the game. As they have been making bigger and more fundamental system changes, this has led to more bugs and they haven’t dealt with them in a way that fits a game that has been in service for over 20 years. After this, he explained some of the recent bugs in more detail, why they happened, and how they fixed them.
  • He then mentioned how he talked briefly about ‘balance patches’ in the previous Maple Now based on players’ comments and apologized if he used wording that may have caused unnecessary misunderstandings amongst players. He said that it was a bit off the cuff and this time, he prepared a more thorough answer.
    • When they work on combat related improvements or changes, they don’t focus only on a single indicator, but try to meet the goal of improving the overall combat experience. Some players may have misunderstood that this meant they will not make skill-related adjustments or that it’s not something important for them.
    • As he mentioned last time, it hasn’t been that long since the last two mastery Cores were added, and it’s taken a bit longer to analyze statistical data and users’ play patterns. It’s not just Mastery Cores as the Union Champion system was added in January, Baldrix will be released in this February patch, and the Destiny weapon will be added next month. So there have been and will be more changes in combat patterns of players, so they want to see how players respond to them first.
    • However, this may not be at the speed that players want or expect. What he can say clearly is that they are working on combat improvement work. This work is not simply based on things like the stats of specific skills, but rather, skills’ combat/usage experiences, as well as boss monsters themselves. Bosses need to improved for the overall combat experience to be better. They are looking into all of these areas to make improvements.
  • Together with these apologies, he prepared some apology rewards for players.
    • 100 Sol Erda Fragments
    • 1 Maximum Growth Potion
    • 4 VIP Sauna Entry Tickets
    • 1 Selective Symbol Voucher
    • 20 Special Medals of Honor

Events – On Stranger Tides

  • They will be continuing their trend of events in 2 month chunks. For February and March, this will be the spring season event ‘On Stranger Tides’, with the goal of accelerating development for relatively low level/combat power characters. The previous event was mostly general rewards but this one will have more synergy with the newly added Union Champion system.
  • He mentioned that they have added [headers] to the event names to make it easier to know what kind of an event is just by looking at the title.
  • Just like the Dawn Star Banquet event, this event is related to the main story of Grandis and Maple World coming together. Kyrin and the Nautilus come to Grandis and meet the Anima in Carcion.
  • The first reward of the event attendance check is an Item Burning Box. It’s the same as the Item Burning event going on right now, so you can enjoy it on a second character.
  • The new part of this event is the Focused Sweep Operation. Since this spring event is more focused on hunting, they added this. You can defeat up to 50,000 monsters per week to get additional rewards including VIP Sauna Entry Tickets, Advanced EXP Vouchers, and Sol Erda.
  • They have changed it so that the previous event’s temp stats skill will overlap with the new temp stats skill for 1 week. This event’s temp stats skill will also apply for 1 week after the event ends.
  • To make hunting more fun, they created the Raise a Golden Octopus event. As you hunt, you can feed your octopus to level it up and get more rewards. But as you level it up, the chance for it to level up goes down and there is also a chance for the octopus to run away. It’s basically a risk-taking game where you can decide if you want to try and get more rewards with a chance of getting nothing or settle with a lower amount of rewards. It’s similar to the packed lunch event before, and he mentioned that most players actually chose to gamble instead of the safe choice so they thought they would lean into it a bit more. If you’re lucky, you can even get 300 Sol Erda Fragments in a single week!

Events – Champion Burning

  • The Champion Double Up event has returned with a few changes. The overall structure is the same but now the Leader character (the one that hunts the mobs) will receive 15% extra experience and 15% normal monster damage for the first 100k mobs they defeat per week. So it’s not only the Follower characters that get extra experience this time.
  • You can participate in this event together in one regular world and one Challengers world at the same time as many players are actively playing on both.
  • Sol Erda and Sol Erda Fragments have been added to the Champion Double Up shop.
  • The Champion Challenge event has also received a few changes. In addition to the existing Normal Challenges, they have added Perfect Challenges for more hardcore players. These require you to solo the corresponding bosses in their higher difficulty, with only 2 Death Count, 20% increased damage taken, and a 50% final damage reduction.
  • The Special Challenge is the same as before, soloing Hard Jin Hilla on 3 characters to receive a Champion medal or title as well as Karma Abyss Rebirth Flames.

Cash

  • The second set of NPC packages will be released, featuring Elizabeth, Roo-D, Lang, Myolang, Sino, and the Flame Bird.

Baldrix

  • Baldrix is a new boss that can be fought in a party of 3 players. Both Normal Mode and Hard Mode will be available.
  • As they are adding bosses faster, they are improving their production and combat gimmicks to be more fun and higher quality.
  • In Phase 1 and Phase 2, each party member will be in their own dimensions, and the things they do in their own dimension will affect the other party members. In Phase 3, all party members will come together to fight the boss.
  • Baldrix drops the new Brilliant Boss accessory, the Oath of Death pendant in Hard Mode. He also drops the Baldrixroid (a huge Android!) and the same Ethernals as Limbo.
  • If you can clear Normal or Hard Baldrix within the first month, you can receive the Sleipnir mount and a Baldrix Mask.
  • If you are one of the first 5 parties that clear Hard Mode, you can receive animated name tag/chat bubble rings, an animated title, and an animated character info background.
  • If any party clears Hard Mode, all players can receive special gifts including 4x Experience Coupons, a Magnificent Growth Potion, VIP Boosters, and a special effect.

System Improvements

  • The Cross World Boss Party system has been added for certain bosses. It’s a special map and as a result of being cross world, there are a bunch of restrictions. They will try to improve some of these inconveniences going forward but definitely take a note of these restrictions.
  • Drops from bosses defeated in a cross world party will not drop on the ground like normal. Instead, they will go right into the Storage UI in the new Boss Rewards tab, where you can claim them afterwards.
  • Many players wondered how they would be able to split or distribute drops with players from other worlds, and this is even a problem that happens when partying with players in your own world (which is why people Blink for drops), so they added the Boss Reward Distribution system.
  • When you create a party, you can set the Item Acquisition Permission to ‘Distribute’. When this is set, drops will not drop on the ground (except for individual drops) and instead, they will be distributed randomly between all party members. Some special items (I’m assuming stuff like Pitched Boss) will appear separately and players can choose if they want it or not. Among those players, they will roll a random number and the one with the highest number will receive the item.
  • The Link Skill system has been reorganized so that you don’t choose them on a per character basis anymore. Your desired Link Skills will be applied to all of your characters at the same time.
  • The Emoticon system has been improved. Honestly before it was kind of useless because of the weird way that you had to use them and how they appeared in the chat. This has been improved and the chat window has been updated alongside it. This was actually something that the developers just finished the night before, so it might be a bit rough on the test server but it will be improved for the official server patch next week.
  • Since the game pushes you to play multiple side characters, they have improved event quests so that after you complete the event’s starting quests on one character, you can instantly bulk accept and start all corresponding events on your other characters.

Conclusion

  • The Maple Hands app has been updated to add the new feature being able to use the Maple Auction through your phone.
  • Maple Island, the Maplestory theme park, will be opening in the first half of 2026 in Lotte World in Seoul, South Korea. There will be one roller coaster and two family attractions. Of course, there will also be special characters, goods, and other experiences.

In order to prevent mistakes when selling equipment, a feature has been added that notifies you to check if you really want to sell an item when attempting to sell at a price that is excessively low compared to the item’s assessed value.

  • The equipment’s value is measured by looking at the item’s enhancement levels and transaction information from a certain period of time.
  • If the information is insufficient to measure the item’s value, the guide message will not appear.
  • This feature will be applied to level 150 armor (Highness, Eagle Eye, Trixter), Absolabs armor, Arcane Shade armor, Absolabs weapons, and Arcane Shade weapons. The equipment which this feature applies to may change in the future.

They’re FINALLY adding the ability to apply links to all characters. Took them long enough. It was such a stupid design choice to make them only apply to one character. The boss reward distribution and and event quest batch accept feature are also long overdue. New chat emotes seem nice, too. It’s not a bad patch.

The Golden Octopus event sounds like ass, though. Nexon getting withdrawal symptoms every time they go five seconds without adding pointless RNG to shit.

    Thanks for the translations, Max.
