[Back to Overview]

Information

Baldrix has two Modes and can only be fought in a party of 1~3 players. Both Modes require 700 Authentic Force.

  • Normal Mode:
    • Level: 290
    • HP: ~2.38Q/~2.53Q/~4Q
    • Defense: 380%
  • Hard Mode:
    • Level: 290
    • HP: ~5.35Q/~5.69Q/~9.24Q
    • Defense: 380%

The main shared mechanic between all three phases is Magic Encroachment, which replaces the traditional Death Count. Similar to Kaling’s Willpower and Limbo’s Erosion, it’s shared between all party members, it starts at 0, and goes up through various mechanics in the fight as well as if you die (+200/100/70 if you are in a party of 3/2/1). If it reaches 1000, you will automatically fail the fight.

I’m gonna briefly cover the main mechanics of each phase but I won’t go into too much detail. If you want, you can read the Namu Wiki page for Baldrix’s patterns or this post made by 섣버 on Naver Blog (using Google Translate).

Phase 1

The Knight Commander
A Stalker for Adversary
Echoes of Ancient Deity

In Phase 1, you and your party members will be split into three different dimensions (the initial entry is based on the order of players in the party list), and every 2 minutes, you will be swapped to another one. Note: there is a special skill in this phase called Bifrost, that lets you move to the dimension you want. However, you cannot move to a dimension that already has someone else in it, so this skill is only available if you are in a party of 1 or 2.

You will face Baldrix, his immortal horse Sleipnir, and the Ancient Gods’ Thoughts separately. While the HP bar is shared between them all, each dimension has its own attacks and mechanics, and they can affect each other.

This phase has the Overflowing Magic gauge, which is shared between party members and has a separate bar for each dimension. If a certain dimension’s gauge reaches 750, it will unlock patterns in all other dimensions, and if it reaches 1000, those patterns will become stronger. When the 2 minute swap is activated, the gauge will reset and your Magic Encroachment will be increased based on how much the gauges were filled.

  • Baldrix
    • The main mechanic is the Weak Point system, where you will see a red arrow on one side of Baldrix. If you attack from this side, you will deal full damage but if you attack from the other side, your final damage will be decreased.
    • If the Baldrix dimension’s gauge reaches 750, this Weak Point system will start appearing in the other two dimensions’ bosses.
  • Sleipnir
    • The main mechanic is the Encroachment Area, which creates pillars at the ends of the map. If you stand inside them, you will take damage continuously.
    • If the Sleipnir dimension’s gauge reaches 750, these Encroachment Areas will start appearing in the other two dimensions’ bosses.
  • Ancient Gods’ Thoughts
    • There are two main mechanics in this dimension. The first is the Magic Rift mechanic where over time, rifts that release Baldrix’s magic will be created throughout the map. You must collect Illusion Energy by attacking the boss then use it to close the Rifts by pressing up on them. If too many fully opened Magic Rifts appear at the same time, it will do a full map attack and the Overflowing Magic gauge will go up by a lot.
    • The second mechanic is where the Ancient God’s Thoughts will possess the statues around the map. When it does this, you must lead the Magic Mirror’s attacks to hit the possessed statue.
    • If the Ancient Gods’ Thoughts gauge reaches 750, all party members will begin receiving a portion of the damage that the other party members take.

Phase 2

Turbulent Realm

In Phase 2, you and your party members will be split in three different areas, the West, Centre, and East. You will all face Magic Absorbing Baldrix separately. The HP bar is shared between them. Every 2 minutes, you will be swapped to another area.

In this phase, the Overflowing Magic gauge is circular and has a blue side (Magic Stigma) and purple side (Magic Flood).

  • When you are hit by patterns, the gauge will go up (the orb in the centre) and if it fills up, you will receive 1 Magic Stigma stack or 1 Magic Flood stack. (shown as the blue/purple segments on either side)
  • The gauge is per person but the number of stacks is shared between all party members.
  • When you reach a certain number of Magic Stigma stacks, additional patterns will begin appearing in each map.
  • The Magic Stigma stacks do not reset.
  • When the 2 minute swap is activated, the number of Magic Flood stacks will reset and your Magic Encroachment will be increased based on the number of Flood stacks.

Phase 3

Showdown in the Inverted Realm

In Phase 3, you and your party members will join together. You will face Fully Armed Baldrix.

In this phase, it has the Suffocating Magic gauge. When it reaches 300, Baldrix’s afterimage will begin to appear (it looks like his purple Shadow Partner basically).

  • You must get hit by the afterimage to disperse Baldrix’s magic and lower the gauge.
  • If the gauge fills up, it will instantly go back down to 600 and you’ll enter Soul Execution. During this, all non-afterimage attacks will deal 100% HP damage. If the gauge goes back up to 1000 during Soul Execution, you will instantly die. (this works similar to Kalos’ P2-4 3/3 stack mechanic or Kaling’s P3 FMA which ignores all invincibility/door/etc)
  • To leave Soul Execution, you must decrease the Suffocating Magic gauge back to 0 by getting hit by the afterimage’s attacks.
  • Every 2 minutes, Baldrix will use the Ragnarok pattern which instantly increases the Suffocating Magic gauge by 300. The only way to stop this is if you did not get any Magic Stigma stacks in Phase 2, in which case, the Heart of the World will create a shield to avoid the attack.

Videos

Here are the different entry cutscenes.

Kobe, Sunny, and I were able to clear the boss only a couple hours after release! I think this was our fourth run, after a few practice modes. The boss is really fun and all of the animations are so nice. It’s way more engaging than Limbo which is honestly just boring in comparison lol. The mechanics, while they seem quite overwhelming at first, turn out to be pretty intuitive after you get some experience in the boss.

  • The equipment’s value is measured by looking at the item’s enhancement levels and transaction information from a certain period of time.
  • If the information is insufficient to measure the item’s value, the guide message will not appear.
  • This feature will be applied to level 150 armor (Highness, Eagle Eye, Trixter), Absolabs armor, Arcane Shade armor, Absolabs weapons, and Arcane Shade weapons. The equipment which this feature applies to may change in the future.

Small typo. When comparing Magic Encroachment to other bosses, you mentioned that Limbo’s Erosion is shared between the party, when it’s not. That’s all. Thank you for the information on how Baldrix works!

As much as I love the content we’re getting after getting into MapleStory worlds I enjoy playing old MS more. It’s barely any FOMO, you can play together with people, all items have meaning and the world isn’t an empty corridor to reach Arcane River…
