KMST ver. 1.2.191 – Ascent Skill Changes

The second test server patch for the new Ascent skills has been released, with some minor damage adjustments across the board. It also has some Len skill changes, improvements to the Cash Shop and all the shop UIs, and a couple of boss changes among other things.
Maple Now (25.07.10)
Ascent Skills
- The previous test world patch released Ascent skills similar to what they explained in the showcase. But he wanted to take a moment to reiterate and explain some of their intentions behind the skills.
- The first thing he talked about was the leveling efficiency of these new skills.
- Due to how they’re designed, Ascent skills are more effective the shorter the boss battle is. You can spend all 3 uses right at the beginning to deal lots of damage, which makes bosses for the strongest players much faster but also makes lower-tier bosses for weaker players much faster.
- They wanted to make them skills that require a little bit of effort to see their full utility. That is why most of the skills are relatively weaker in early levels.
- If the low-level skills’ efficiency was too high, it would also have some degree of risk in terms of the economy.
- The second thing he talked about was how Ascent skills themselves are pretty unique, as they apply certain effects and don’t apply other effects. They didn’t want to make the skill system too complicated but the intention of the skills (being able to use them at any time) made it pretty unique and required a certain level of complexity.
- Conditional passive skills will not be applied (things like final damage boosts when your HP is at a certain %).
- Consumable items that last less than 30 minutes will not be applied. This is to avoid situations where if things like Sayram’s Elixir or Collector’s Elixir which had a lower duration were applied, you would be forced to use them before those buffs expired.
- Hat and Ring stat increases will not be applied. This is to avoid situations where you would switch your CD hat to a stat hat, or your Seed ring to a stat ring to buff the damage of your Ascent skill.
- Just like passive skills, mob patterns that increase or decreases your final damage will not be applied. For example, Kalos phase 2’s curse stacks, Guardian Angel Slime’s groggy status, and Dusk’s closed eye damage reduction (many players thought this was a bug but it’s intended).
- In terms of changes from the previous test world patch:
- Three jobs had Ascent skills that had post-use ‘mark’ type attacks, being I/L, Demon Slayer, and Blaster. They had issues like if there were a lot of monsters, they might get distributed among all of them or if they all hit a single monster, others wouldn’t be hit at all. They changed the overall logic for these skills to make them work closer to what they intended.
- Certain jobs’ illustration designs have also been changed.
- Most skills’ damage percentages have been adjusted. Overall, it is a slight damage increase.
Events
- Twilight Eve Festival
- The Awakening Power of Time event’s benefits that unlock over time as players participate in it have been gradually getting slower as the number of players have been decreasing. To help alleviate this, in the July patch, they will lower the participation requirements to fill up the gauges.
- The new hunting experience skill is pretty similar to the last one, but the number of daily activations has been increased from 15 to 30.
- The second new hunting event Evernia Trader King is not a direct replacement for the Golden Springs event but it works in a similar way where the more you hunt, the more benefits you get. It’s close to the Golden Octopus event from the Carcion Octo Festival. The first iteration of the Golden Octopus event was good and the second one was worse based on player feedback, so they wanted to bring back an improved version.
- Gold Richie’s Secret Safe event has returned.
- The Gold Safe has growth related items and also gives participation rewards.
- The Diamond Safe lasts 5 weeks with one reward per week. These rewards are all cosmetic, including new LIMITED Label items (Lumiere Chronometer and Lumiere Heritage), there are only 22 in total across all worlds and they’re numbered. They’re also fully tradeable with no limit. They’re designed as an experiment for maximum rarity items, even though they’re not particularly visually striking. If players respond to it well, they will add more in the future.
- Special Sunday Maple
- Shining Star Force will take place on July 20. Part of the scheduling reason was that currently, there is a shortage of mesos in the economy and a surplus of Maple Points, so having SSF this weekend would accelerate the consumption of mesos even more. In addition, World Leap from Challengers World begins next week so having SSF after you can move to your own world would be beter.
Cash Shop
- Boutique Gifts have returned with a new set of rewards you can trade in for, including new outfits and the Esfera set. It also has the new Colouring Prism Pro that lets you change the colours of any item (regardless of Label).
- The Golden Hands cosmetics (designed and voted on by players) will be sold again.
Len Changes
- Len’s Plum Blossom Sword 3rd Form: Keen Blade had a mobbing mode and bossing mode, but it was inconvenient to have to right-click the skill to switch between them all the time. Now, there is a new skill that lets you select which mode you want to use.
- Len’s Plum Blossom Sword 1st Form: Gentle Dash‘s backwards dash skill icon was changed to make it easier to distinguish. They also added two separate skills for the forwards dash and backwards dash if you want to hotkey them separately.
- Len’s story quests have been added to the Dimensional Library.
System Changes
- In Sharenian’s Underground Culvert, since players have become able to fully clear it with Ascent skills, a 7th stage has been added.
- For the Treasure Hunter content, a ceiling system has been added so that if you defeat a certain number of monsters without seeing one, it will be guaranteed to appear.
- The Rune of Blessings will now spawn at the center of the map to make the best usage of its attack.
- When you use a Colouring Prism on an item, the icon will now change accordingly and the tooltip will display a preview of the item.
- You can now hold up to 30,000 Spell Traces in a single slot. He wanted to increase it more but that would require more changes so for now, that’s what they landed on.
Monster Changes
- After unifying all jobs’ burst cycles to 2 minutes, some bosses weren’t changed accordingly, so they are doing so now.
- For Guardian Angel Slime, the time it takes to enter the Slime Wave pattern has been decreased from 150 seconds to 90 seconds. You only need 2 Magma Slimes to block a gate now. There is also a countdown until the pattern starts now below the time limit.
- For Baldrix, the time before it swaps between bosses has been increased from 120 seconds to 130 seconds.
Map Changes
- Odium has become a little bit of a bottleneck area and many players have been pushed up to that level range so they improved a bunch of the maps so that players will be able to hunt easily in more maps than before.
UI Changes
- The Shop UI has been changed a lot.
- The NPC will now display how long the shop will last.
- Each item will display a remaining count and display if it’s per character, Maple ID, or world.
- When you buy an item, a new UI will pop up that combines a lot of options that previously required different windows. It shows the item, how much it costs, how many you want to buy, how many you can buy, the amount of currency you’ll have left afterwards, etc.
- When an item sells in the Auction House, the notification has been updated to display the item and sell price.
- In the Cash Shop, you can now double-click the preview window to zoom in 2x. You can now also preview Custom Dye mixes.
Other Changes
- For Challenge World only, you can skip all Arcane River and Grandis area story quests even if you haven’t done them before.
- There’s so many events to start now, and it’s annoying to have to do them one-by-one. They added a Simplified Start feature that lets you skip and accept all event quests all at once, and will provide this feature from the beginning for events going forward.
- He ended with previewing the PC to Mobile link feature. You need Nexon Link on your mobile device and Nexon Plug on your PC. It will let you remote into the game and play from your mobile device.
- You can zoom in to the game screen on your device.
- It’s not intended to completely replace a PC to play MapleStory, which is why it has certain limitations like only being able to defeat 10,000 monsters per day on your mobile device.
- The Maple Now gift for players is a Sayaroid that can be claimed after the patch next week. He asked the art director for it at 5 PM the previous day and they finished it by the Maple Now stream.

The Shop UI has been improved.
- You can now check the remaining purchase count and if the item has an expiry date in the Shop UI.

- It has been improved so that you can also purchase items by right-clicking them. The ‘right-click to buy/sell’ feature will now be provided by default.
