The second patch of the Tempest update has been released, the Choice of Light and Darkness. It features the final hero, Luminous!

In addition, another entry has been posted in Inkwell’s Secret Diary, with what could be a sneak peak at our new continent!

Sanctuary of Grandis, the citadel of the gods that reveals their glory.

This entry is called Sanctuary of Eternity. That’s Kaiser there, standing in front of it. Could this be part of the new continent that was talked about in the Tempest update? Maybe it’s part of this Nova place that Kaiser is part of. One thing is for sure though, it looks very cool!

These are the two login screens for this patch. In the second you can see all 7 commanders of the Black Mage! Magnus, Hilla, Akyrum, Von Leon, Orca, Su, and Guwaru~

Battle Square was attacked and destroyed by the Black Mage’s forces! Grand Battle was meant to train Maplers to fight the Black Mage, and he obviously didn’t want that.

The new hero job, Luminous has been added! Luminous’ first job advancement is at level 10, second at level 30, third at level 60, and fourth at level 100.

There are two different default hair and eyes for each gender, and you can choose the gender you wish to be.

Luminous’ character card gives 10/20/40/60 INT.

Luminous’ tutorial, in which you can make the choice between Light and Dark. It affects some of the storyline as well as your skills (only first job though… I think). I don’t have time to record them, so I’ll just use these videos uploaded by NeoLegionEX (thanks!).

In the Light version, you gain access to the skills Twinkle Flash and Light Magic Enhancement.

In the Dark version, you get Dark Falling and Dark Magic Enhancement. This one is sad though… you abandon Lania after you destroyed her home!

As you can see, Luminous is the final hero to enter the battle. On his way in, he sees Phantom and Aran, who hold off the Black Mage’s forces. Inside, Mercedes and Freud have already been defeated, Demon Slayer as well. After hearing that the Black Mage has been weakened greatly, Luminous seals the Black Mage away!

Luminous, along with the other 4 heroes and Demon Slayer, was able to seal away the Black Mage. However, this came at a cost, the Black Mage corrupted the mage of light, Luminous, with his evil power! Luminous must now balance between light and darkness.

 

Luminous uses a new weapon, the Shining Rod, and secondary weapon Orb. At fourth job, the Orb can be potentialed!

It also has a really cool job advancement animation!

Luminous uses a dark/light skill system! Let’s start from the top left, which is the Sunfire state. Luminous gets increased damage on his Light skills and heals some HP each time he uses one. As you continue using Light skills, you’ll reach the Equilibrium state, where you can use all of your Equilibrium skills without cooldown and without using MP, along with 100% increased damage. Afterwards you’ll hit the Eclipse state, where your Dark skills will become more powerful, with 50% increased damage and no MP used.

This means in order to do the most damage, you must keep switching between using light skills and dark skills, and you can’t spam one attack!

Luminous Skills

Beginner

•  Sunfire: Sunfire causes light based skills to do an extra 50% damage and heal 1% HP.
•  Eclipse: Eclipse causes dark based skills to do an extra 50% damage and use no MP.
•  Equilibrium: While in the Equilibrium state, for 10 seconds you gain 100% stance, all the damage that you take is reduced to 1, your cooldowns are ignored, all skills do 50% more damage, they cost 0 MP, and Light magic heals 1% of your HP. Equilibrium skills hit 100% of their damage.
•  Permeate: Light passes through enemies, ignoring 10% of their defense. (LINK SKILL)
•  Power of Light: Luminous has strong will and insight (instantly level 20) as well as intelligence (+20 INT), and is immune to the darkness state (decreased accuracy), when levelling up you will gain extra MP.
•  Light Blink: Track monsters using light and teleport to them, if in town you will teleport to a random place.

First Job

•  Twinkle Flash: [Light Skill] Arrows of light are quickly fired and penetrate up to 5 enemies for 280% damage. (max level: 20)

•  Lightransforming: Move a certain distance using light, then conceal yourself, choose the direction using your arrow keys. Passively increase your speed by 20% and jump by 10%. (max level: 10)
•  Ordinary Magic Guard: Passively, 85% of the damage you take will be taken out of your MP, and increase your defense and magic defense by 150. (max level: 10)

•  Extend Mana: For 180 seconds, increase your maximum MP by 30%. (max level: 20)

•  Dark Falling: [Dark Magic] Attack up to 6 enemies in front of you for 107% damage using dark magic. (max level: 20)
•  Dark Magic Enhancement: Your damage is increased by 5% when using dark magic. (max level: 5)

•  Light Magic Enhancement: Your damage is increased by 5% when using light magic. (max level: 5)

Second Job

•  Sylphid Lancer: [Light Skill] A spear of light is summoned and does 115% damage 4 times to 6 enemies. (max level: 20)

•  Inviolability:  [Light Skill] A pillar of light is summoned and pushes enemies to the side while stunning them. (max level: 10)

•  Void Pressure:  [Dark Skill] The power of darkness is condensed and attacks 8 enemies for 168% damage as long as the skill key is held down. While holding down the skill key, you can move the orb left and right. (max level:  20)

•  Bless of Darkness:When you have not been attacked for 5 seconds, summon a dark orb (up to 3). When you take damage, an orb will absorb 70% of the damage and disappear. For each orb summoned, your magic attack will be increased. (1 orb – 50% of 30 magic attack, 2 orbs – 80% of 30 magic attack, 3 orbs – 100% of 30 magic attack) (max level: 20)

•  Magic Booster: For 180 seconds, the speed of your magic attacks is increased by 2 stages. (max level: 10)
•  Spell Mastery: Increase your magic mastery by 50% and your magic attack by 10. (max level: 10)
•  High Wisdom: Permanently increase your INT by 40. (max level: 5)

Third Job

•  Spectral Light: [Light Skill] Arrows of light are quickly shot at up to 8 enemies, dealing 121% damage 4 times as long as the skill key is held down. You can change the direction the arrows fire by pressing the left and right keys while holding down the skill key. (note: this skill can even shoot diagonally!) (max level: 20)

•  Shine Redemption: [Light Skill] The power of lights heal allies for 800% of their HP while attacking up to 6 enemies for 180% damage. (max level: 20)

•  Nox Spear: [Dark Skill] Chains of darkness will pierce up to 6 enemies, dealing 361% damage 2 times. (max level: (max level: 20)

•  Death Scythe: [Equilibrium] Gods of death are summoned to your left and right, then rush together to attack up to 10 enemies, dealing 230% damage 6 times. There is a cooldown of 24 seconds. (max level: 20)

•  Anti Magic Shell: You will be protected from three statuses. The cooldown of 300 seconds will begin once these three skills are used. Passively increase your elemental and status resistance by 40%. (max level: 10)

•  Light Shadow Guard:  For 180 seconds, increase your weapon and magic defense by 300 and your chance to ignore damage taken by 20%. (max level: 10)

•  Photic Meditation: For 180 seconds, increase the magic attack of you and your party members by 40. (max level: 20)
•  Life Tidal: If your HP is higher than your MP, increase your damage by 20%. If your HP is lower than your MP, increase your critical chance by 30%. (max level: 20)

Fourth Job

•  Light Reflection: [Light Skill] A powerful light wave is released to hit up to 8 enemies for 300% damage 4 times. Enemies hit reflect the wave, but the skill will do less damage. (think Chain Lightning) (max level: 30)

•  Morning Starfall: [Dark Skill] A star of darkness is summoned to attack up to 8 enemies for 180% damage. The star pushes away your enemies then explodes to deal 370% damage. There is a cooldown of 5 seconds. (max level: 30)

•  Apocalypse: [Dark Skill] A large abyss of darkness opens and hits 8 enemies for 350% damage 7 times. (max level: 30)

•  Absolute Kill: [Equilibrium] Instantly kill up to two enemies. If this effect does not work on the enemy, inflict 333% damage 7 times with a 100% critical chance. There is a cooldown of 12 seconds. (max level: 30)

•  Dark Crescendo: For 180 seconds, when you attack you’ll have an 80% chance to increase your damage by 1%, up to 30 times. (max level: 30)

•  Darkness Sorcery: For a certain period of time, increase the amount of monster’s defense ignored  by 40% and the amount of monster’s elemental resistance ignored by 100%. (max level: 30)
•  Magic Mastery: Increase your magic mastery to 70%, magic attack by 30, and minimum critical damage by 15%. (max level: 30)
•  Dark Light Mastery: Increase the duration time of Equilibrium’s buff by 10 seconds, the rate at which Sunfire and Eclipse states deplete is decreased. Passively increase the damage of Death Scythe by 100%. (max level: 5)

•  Maple Warrior: Increase the stats of all party members by 15% for 900 seconds. (max level: 30)

•  Hero’s Will: You are cured from the seduce state. There is a cooldown of 360 seconds. (max level: 5)

The Magician of Light Open Celebration event has begun! It lasts until August 31.

If you reach level 50 on Luminous, you’ll get the Luminous Ring! It gives 3 to all stats, 2 attack and magic attack, and 10 defense, magic defense, and accuracy. It can be traded through the account with the Share Name Tag. If you’re a 3rd or 4th job Luminous, you get an extra 5 magic attack!

At level 70, you’ll get your choice of one Special Mastery Book~

You’ll get equipment boxes at level 30, 50, 60, and 70 to help you along your way!

Also, at each level above, you’ll get a 1.5x Experience Coupon!

Of course, there will be some Hot Times to celebrate Luminous’ arrival! The first, on July 14, gives an AP Reset Scroll, Character Name Change Coupon, Lateral Dogma, as well as the chance to get an Abyss weapon and the Tempest title.

Character name changes are new in kMS (we’ve never had them before). This one is better than the ones in the other versions, it allows you to instantly change the name of any of your characters (it doesn’t matter which of your characters has the coupon).  The Lateral Dogma hat gives 10 to all stats, 200 HP and MP, and 50 defense and magic defense, and it comes unique on reveal! It also gives an extra 10 INT, 6 magic attack, and 30% HP to Luminous characters.

On July 15, you’ll get an SP Reset Scroll,  Storm Growth Potion, Luminous Mystery Mastery Book, and a unique on reveal Lightwing Sage!

The Tempest festival has begun! Like always, you’ll have to do quests to collect Tempest Coins~

Each day you’ll receive 1 Coin for free (2 if you’re a new job i.e. Luminous or Kaiser)!

You can also hold Cassandra’s Bottle of Wind for 30 minutes to get the Filled Bottle of Wind, for which you’ll get 2 coins for (4 if you’re a new job).

You can also get Tempest Celebration Ice Boxes from monsters around your level. If you open them, you’ll have a chance at getting Tempest Coins, personality trait items, potions, and Ice Bars (which last for 3 days)~

You will be able to spend your coins at the Tempest Shop, you can find it by talking to the NPCs Wind and Spark in all major towns! Like other festival shops, they have a variety of items (mostly copy pasted, haha).

Spark sells equipment and scrolls. This includes the new Tempest set (which looks pretty cool, actually!). The Tempest set consists of a hat, overall, gloves, shoes, cape, shoulderpad, belt, earring, and weapon.

A new world called Tempest has been opened! If you reach level 70 in this world, you’ll get the Tempest Bandana (18 to all stats, 180 defense and magic defense, 25 accuracy and avoid, 10 craft, 7 slots). It’s also Epic on reveal!

If you reach level 80, you’ll get the New Frontier Earrings (4 to all atats, 100 MP and magic defense, 5 slots).
