MapleStory BEYOND Union.png

The second patch of the MapleStory BEYOND update, titled Union, has been released! This one includes the new Maple Union system which replaces Character Cards and Part Time Job as well as the long-awaited return of Omega Sector!

Here’s the Update Info Centre video for this patch!

Here are the two new world select screen splashes!

Maple Union

Maple Union.png

Maple Union has been added.

  • Maple Union is a system that grows with all of your characters in your world.
  • All characters who are level 60 or above and have completed the 2nd job advancement (level 130 or above for Zero) will be members of the Maple Union.
  • If the total level of your members (your Union level) is 500 or more and you have 3 or more members, you can accept the Maple Union starting quests by talking to Ms. Account.

Attacker Organization and Battle Map Placement

Attacker Setting.png

  • You can choose some of your Maple Union characters as attackers and place them on the Battle Map.
  • Each attacker will have a unique Attacker Effect, based on the character’s job and rank.
  • Each attacker will occupy a certain sized area of the battle map based on their rank. The Battle Map has specific squares that give specific occupation effects, and if your attacker’s squares are occupying them, you’ll get those effects.
  • Attacker Effects and occupation effects will apply to all characters in your world.
  • The number of Attackers you can have and the area of the Battle Map that you can occupy will increase based on your Union Rank.
  • When your Union Level reaches certain levels, you can upgrade your Union Rank by paying Union Coins to Ms. Account.

Attacker Effects

My Stored Cards.png

Each character will have a different Attacker Effect based on its job and rank. You will only receive the effects if the character is placed as an active Attacker in the Battle Map. Also, if you have multiple Attackers that are the same class, you will only receive the effect of the highest rank one (e.g. no stacking Zeroes for extra bonus experience).

This is almost exactly the same as how Character Cards used to be. However, there are a few changes such as certain jobs’ effects and the ranks based on level.

A character’s rank is decided as follows:

  • B: level 60~99 (level 130~159 for Zero)
  • A: level 100~139 (level 160~179 for Zero)
  • S: level 140~199 (level 180~199 for Zero)
  • SS: level 200~249
  • SSS: level 250

The different jobs’ Attacker Effects are as follows:

  • Adventurers
    • Hero: 10/20/40/80/100 STR
    • Paladin: 10/20/40/80/100 STR
    • Dark Knight: 2/3/4/5/6% HP

Occupation Effects

battle-map

The main part of the Maple Union UI is the Battle Map. Here you can see a bunch of squares divided into different areas. Each area will give different stats and you can gain these stats by placing an Attacker onto them.

Job Blocks.jpg

Each Attacker you place will have a different shape based on its job (warrior – ‘O’/magician – ‘+’/archer – ‘I’/thief – ‘T’/pirate – ‘Z’) and its card rank (SSS rank – 5 squares, SS rank – 4 squares, S rank – 3 squares, A rank – 2 squares, B rank – 1 square).

rotating-flipping

Then it becomes a sort of puzzle where you place the pieces onto the Battle Map to occupy the spaces with the effects you would like.

You can rotate or flip them in any way but each placed piece must touch a previously placed one (the first piece must touch one of the 4 centre squares). You can also overlap pieces.

Based on the number of squares that you occupy in an area, you’ll receive more of the occupation effect.

swapping-15-square-areas

The occupation effects are divided into two groups: 15 square areas and 40 square areas. The 15 square areas are completely unlocked at the beginning. You can also swap around the position of these 15 square areas any way you would like.

However, none of the 40 square areas will be available and their positions cannot swapped.

Based on your Union Rank, you’ll unlock a 1-square outline around the 15 square areas each time you achieve the following ranks:

  • Novice Union 4
  • Veteran Union 1
  • Veteran Union 3
  • Veteran Union 5
  • Master Union 2

The effects are as follows (clockwise starting from the top left):

  • 15 Square Areas
    • STR: 5 per square (maximum of 75)
    • DEX: 5 per square (maximum of 75)
    • INT: 5 per square (maximum of 75)
    • LUK: 5 per square (maximum of 75)
    • Attack: 1 per square (maximum of 15)
    • Magic Attack: 1 per square (maximum of 15)
    • HP: 250 per square (maximum of 3750)
    • MP: 250 per square (maximum of 3750)
  • 40 Square Areas
    • Status Resistance: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Bonus Experience: 0.25% per square (maximum of 10%)
    • Critical Rate: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Boss Damage: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Stance: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Buff Duration: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Defense Ignore: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
    • Critical Damage: 0.5% per square (maximum of 20%)

Union Ranks

To increase your Union Rank, you must achieve certain Union Levels (total level of all your Maple Union members). Then you must pay a certain number of Union Coins to Ms. Account.

As your Union Rank grows, you’ll be allowed to have more Attackers placed on your Battle Map at one time and you’ll unlock more squares on the Battle Map as well.

Union Raid

  • The Union Raid is a cooperative battle fought by you and your Attacker characters.
  • You can press the button to enter the Union Raid with your characters at any time.
  • When you enter the Union Raid, all your Attackers will be placed on the battlefield and all characters except for the one you are controlling will automatically attack the boss monster in the centre of the map. Each character deals damage based on their Attack Power, which is determined based on their level and Star Force.
    • NOTE: You can control your own character and use all of your skills/move around freely.
  • The giant boss monster will take damage equal to your automatic Attackers’ total Attack Power every second.
    • NOTE: The giant boss monster will not move or attack. However, it will summon Mini Dragons and the Golden Wyvern occasionally which will move around the map. You can kill these to complete daily quests.
    • NOTE: The boss’ HP is split into two gauges. The purple gauge is the Shield HP and can only be damaged by your attackers’ automatic attacks. The green gauge is the Regular HP and can be damaged by you directly. Your Attackers will damage the Regular HP first, and then if it is completely gone, the Shield HP. If there is only Shield HP remaining, you cannot deal any damage directly.

union-raid-hp-bar-and-coinsreceiving-union-coins

  • The giant boss monster’s damage taken will be updated every 5 seconds. Every time you deal 100b damage, you will receive 1 Union Coin.
    • NOTE: You can see the golden numbers on the bar at the top. Whenever they increase by 1, you’ll receive a coin.
  • Even if you do not directly enter the Union Raid, your Attackers’ automatic attacks will continue to deal damage to the boss monster and accumulate Union Coins.
    • NOTE: This applies even if you log off.
  • All Union Coins that you have accumulated will be given to you upon exiting the Union Raid.

Union Coins can be acquired through the Union Raid and daily quests. You can purchase a variety of items with Union Coins by talking to Mr. Poncho in main towns.

Maple Union.png

Okay I added a ton of details up there so I don’t think I need to do a full out tutorial or anything. But here’s my current Maple Union board, which I’ll go through so you guys can understand how it works.

I have 9/12 Attackers placed right now, around the Battle Map. Since my Maple Union’s rank is Novice Union 4, I have unlocked a 1-square outline of the initial 12×10 rectangle. I have also swapped the positions of the LUK and DEX areas so that it would be closer to the Attack area.

Under the green Join Battle button, you can see two boxes.

  • The left box lists the Attacker Effects (a.k.a. Character Card effects).
    • 80 STR bonus from my Paladin (SS rank)
    • 80 DEX bonus from my Bowmaster (SS rank)
    • 8% bonus experience from my Zero (S rank)
    • etc.
  • The right box lists the Occupation Effects, which are the bonuses you get by occupying certain squares on the board with your Attackers.
    • 50 DEX from occupying 10/15 squares of the DEX area.
    • 10 INT from occupying 2/15 squares of the INT area.
    • 5 LUK from occupying 1/15 squares of the LUK area.
    • 14 attack from occupying 14/15 squares of the attack area.
    • 1% critical rate from occupying 1/40 squares of the critical rate area.

Here’s what it looks like in action!

Are the number of union coins to increase rank accumulative or each rank needs the listed amount? Also the Union’s Luck Stage coupons have a typo for the duration.

  5. Anonymous
    January 19, 2017 at 11:08 am

Are the coins required to level union rank listed as accumulative or you need the listed amount of coins to get to the next union rank.

Also is there a typo with the Union’s Lucky Stage coupons? The duration are all the same.

They do stack. You can’t stack like 2 Kaisers for 2 STR boosts or something.

is it possible to list translate the 40 square regions? 😀 i want to plan and be ready

    • Max
      January 21, 2017 at 1:04 pm

What do you mean? I translated the 40 square areas in my post already, and they’re in the same order as the 15 square areas (e.g. Status Resistance is in the top left, right behind STR, Bonus Experience is the top right behind DEX, etc).

      • Anonymous
        January 21, 2017 at 3:17 pm

Status Resistance: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Bonus Experience: 0.25% per square (maximum of 10%)
Critical Rate: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Boss Damage: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Stance: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Buff Duration: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Defense Ignore: 1% per square (maximum of 40%)
Critical Damage: 0.5% per square (maximum of 20%)

is this list clockwise starting from the top left?

I searched and found this post on Insoya! http://www.insoya.com/bbs/zboard.php?id=maple_info&divpage=2&no=36148
A character’s Attack Power is the sum of their (power calculated through Star Force) + (power calculated through level). You can see the formulas for Star Force attack power in the 2.1 section, based on your total number of Star Force. The formulas for Level attack power are in 2.2, based on your current level.

Would love to see the formulas to estimate my current attackers’ DPS and know how much coins I can get per hr when the patch arrives. 🙂

Hey, Max. I’ve watched a few other videos on YouTube about the system and I mostly get it. The big question I’ve had while watching them is: if say, your total level is already at 6,000 or something before the Union update, would you immediately get Master Union 2 without having to pay the coin costs to level it up from ground zero? Since other people I’ve seen have differing Union levels and you can only get 30 coins/day from quests, I think this is right, but I’d like some confirmation.

Do you think its possible by reaching Grand master Union 5 rank to fill up the entire board, or majority-wise?(if you’ve maxed everything, you don’t really need exp, stance, mp for every class) I’ve been trying figure that out, but I was never good at Tetris and Professor Layton. I may also try using a photo editor later if the mental calcs get too hard, but I don’t know how to post that here.

Well theres a total of 20×22 = 440 squares and assuming you have 40 level 250 characters, that would only be 40*5 = 200 squares. If you can find 240 square sections that you don’t want, you could potentially max the rest (although it depends on the pieces you have since it might not fit exactly).

Hi Max, just a quick question, are there any Attacker Effects for Hayato & Kanna / Sengouku Class?

those do not exist in KMS but they will likely be the same as their current character cards.

KMS does not have, Hayato, Kanna, Jett/ Zen or Beast Tamer.

Thanks for the reply Lore guy, yea hopefully it’ll retain the same as Hayato is on crit damage and Kanna on boss damage! Thanks for the info bro! (:

Yeah KMS doesn’t have those characters. Most attacker effects are the same as the old character card effects so they might be moved over but there is a possibility of them changing.

Any idea how Xenon tiles will be like? Will it follow thief or pirate shape, or can you choose?

      February 1, 2017 at 3:47 pm

The icon for Xenon’s block shows half thief/half pirate but the shape is the same as thieves.

assuming all the 40sqft grids are unlocked. Can you just focus on your char blocks onto the 40 sqft section instead of the 15?

    • Max
      February 5, 2017 at 2:32 pm

You could but you’ll need to make a path from one of the center 4 squares to the 40 square section you want to go to since all blocks have to touch another block, and your first block has to be on one of the center 4 squares.

Hey, Max. So 2 cards of the same class don’t give the same Attacker Effect (pretty much old character card effects), but they’re still counted toward the Union Level and can both be placed on the board, right? Are there any other downsides to using 1 or 2 duplicate cards besides not having the Attacker Effect multiple times?

    • Max
      February 6, 2017 at 9:30 pm

I think that’s the only drawback (not stacking Attacker Effects)!

Alright so I quote from the text: “[You will only receive the effects if the character is placed as an active Attacker in the Battle Map.]” – This mean even if you have 40 characters on your account and your union rank is “Grand Master Union 1”. This rank only gives you 36 attackers, so that means I wont be able to use the other 4 characters to get their effects?

      Correct!

is the big number under the card the damage they do?
    on the char cards?

    • Max
      April 2, 2017 at 1:50 pm

Yep, the numbers below the character image are the character’s Attack Power, which is how much damage it will do to the bosses in the Union Raid.

Hi max, quick one. Is the union shop, for the ring, staying forever, as well as getting coins for it? Or do we have a specific event period when it is available?

    Thanks!

    • Max
      June 13, 2017 at 1:49 pm

The Union coin shop is permanent because it is a permanent content addition, but there’s no ring in the shop?
