MapleStory’s Story – Character Relationships & Grandis!
Time for a little different kind of post. Instead of talking about new patches, events, content, and stuff like that, this is a post entirely on MapleStory’s story! I don’t know about you guys, but I love the story lines in this game. I still remember doing all of the Magatia quests the day it came out, haha.
Here’s something I translated a while ago, posted by Polaris on Insoya.com (I think the thread got deleted or something…). It shows the relationships between various characters in MapleStory (no minor ones though like Chief Stan and Alex or Dr. Betty and Anne). Some are pretty interesting to see actually~
Edit: Many people seem to assuming this image is some sort of troll because it’s from Insoya. You’re wrong. Oh my gosh, one forum posted an image from Insoya’s fanart section saying it was real, everything from Insoya must be wrong!!! No, this was from the Maple Talk section, where people… talk about MapleStory. Also, threads on Insoya get deleted after a certain period of time (it’s dumb, I don’t know why they do that).
Let’s look at some of the more interesting points of the chart. First off, Lilin and Nineheart are siblings. Some of you may have known this already, but for those of you who didn’t, I believe it was hinted towards in some of the Aran quests or something…
Lania, Luminous’ friend, is the reincarnation of Lucia, a past member of Aurora. Aurora is an organization that was started a long time ago, to research and protect the light. It’s really important in the Luminous storyline!
The members of Aurora met at Serenity, the map with Beowan I showed you before. The really interesting thing about Serenity is that the founder was none other than the Black Mage himself! However, he became corrupted and left the organization.
Now, let’s talk about the really interesting part, the new story of MapleStory revealed by the appearance of Grandis!
Overseers are the ‘Gods of the Beginning’, consisting of three people. They created everything in all the worlds.They also created three Transcendences, those that could be said to be the closest to the gods, beings that were to keep balance in the world. They each had a different power, light, time, and life.
The Transcendence of Light for the Maple World is the Black Mage. He used to be the master of Aurora, an organization made to protect and study the light. However, the allure of the power the light had corrupted him. He performed an evil spell that cast away his humanity. The Black Mage is a mortal Transcendence, meaning he can be killed.
The Transcendence of Time is the Goddess of Time Rhinne. It is said that the entire Maple World is but a dream of hers. The Black Mage attempted to steal her power by sending Arkairum to the Temple of Time. She is an immortal Transcendence, one that will always exist.
Little is known about the Transcendence of Life, the World Tree, but it is an immortal Transcendence.
Grandis also has its own Transcendences. The first is the Transcendence of Life, Darumoa, the king of the High-Rep race. However, they were wiped out in a war with the Wooden-Rep race. He is a mortal Transcendence. He is the one that gave Magnus power to take over Helisium.
The Transcendence of Time, Chronica, had its power stolen by Darumoa. Using the power of life and time, Darumoa was able to create the Dimensional Portal in Grandis, connecting it to the Maple World.
The Transcendence of Light, Iona, similar to the World Tree, is unknown. According to the ancient Nova soul Escada, only the lights of the sanctuaries can reach Iona.
As you can tell, there’s a lot more that we have to find out about! I hope that Grandis’ future expansions can shed light on the rest of the Transcendences, as well as the other races in the land. Now, something I find interesting is the idea of the Overseers. Who could they be?
A popular opinion by Maplers is that a certain moustachioed man is an Overseer, Spiegelmann! Spiegelmann, the international man of mystery, has been an enigma ever since he came to us for the first time with his Monster Carnival so many years back. This was followed by Monster Park, and recently, Spiegelmann’s Gonzo Gallery! How could someone even create things like that?
There’s even many hints that Spiegelmann himself built Zakum, including this picture and you catching him in the act in the Winter Stage of his Gallery! I guess we can only guess for now, but Spiegelmann is a really interesting character that I’m sure will have something big to do later in the story of MapleStory!

If I remember (but I’m probably wrong) but I think Phantom’s mentor was his own butler Gustan. I remember in the storyline quests that he mentions Gustan too weak to train him/advance him. But I probably remember it wrong.
Also it was in Phantoms story line that said Lilin is related to Neinheart. I’m pretty sure Neinheart said something about that during the story line. I could be mistaken.

I didn’t know that Mastema had a thing for demon slayer. Sucks since him and mercedes are all over each other. Or maybe he’s just doing that to spite the cannon shooter :P.
In the promo images, Cannon Shooter has a thing for Orca. Halloween = in love, about to hand her a love letter; New Years = broken heart, holding rejected love letter; Valentine’s = out to destroy the festivities surrounding love. DS/Mercedes is up to interpretation.

Maplestory always had the potential to have a deep lore and story to rival those of W.O.W and such but most of the time the story always seem to have a big disconnect between story and gameplay which is what sets it back a bit depending on the players.
Also small thing but wasn’t phantom one of the black mages generals or officers back then before he became one of the 5 heroes who sealed the black mage away

You forgot to add that Danica and Helena are sisters and that Sulhee and Dark Lord are former adversaries. Also didn’t Orca join the Resistance?
Also I would like if you make more of these about the MapleStory universe, I have always loved the MS world from time to time.

Considering Insoya is the Korean equivalent of Basil, and that the post was deleted, do you have more proof that this is real?
I’m going to ignore the Basil thing because I have no idea what you mean by that, and I assume you’re talking about the Transcendence information because the chart is obviously real.
The information is real, I found it through another Insoya thread and double checked it with my friend Jay (who is Korean). He wrote down all of this stuff while he was doing the quests on his Kaiser and AB, which is where they talk about them.

I don’t Think Spiegelmann built Zakum, he probably discovered it, I think he is an explorer that discovers ancient artifacts, captures rare monsters and or ancient technologies and the he displays them for the maple world citizens.(he also love the Carnival for some reason)
Zakum seem it was built by some mesoamerican Civilization like the mayans or the olmecs, and lets be honest spigelman look more European than Swiss Chocolate.
I think he did build Zakum. In GMS, there was this event called Spiegelmann’s Gonzo Gallery and at the end of the Winter Season one you can see Speigelmann with an unbuilt zakum and a hammer in his hand.

Hmm, if you played in Monster Park when you double-click the picture which Spiegelmann took with Zakum, there will be appeared a new quest give you some Monster Park coin and in GMS Spiegelmann said that Zakum was fake, it was just his statue to decorate his gallery or something like that (haven’t played Ms for a long time so I can’t remember exactly), I still remember about the photo Spiegelmann took with Von Leon, he said he couldn’t believe that it was him and he couldn’t explain for me, the photo with Horntail he said that’s his hobby when he was a child…
Dont’ know clearly who Spielgelmann is, but I think he is one of the most important NPC in Maplestory

MS is like a movie. When I think about Spiegelmann I think of him as like the Director of a film. He asks Zakum to pose up so it looks like he created him. Buddy with Von Leon because Leon is a movie star. And Horntail is probably Spiegelmann’s pet.

I LOVE the storyline of maple, The heroes’ storylines are amazing, I LOVED magatia’s storyline too, and I think the masteria’s storyline (old one ofc) was pretty amazing as well.
Btw, where did you hear about the Transcendences stuff?
They are talked about in the Kaiser, AB, and Pantheon quests.
How is Kaiser related to the place Serenity?
Actually when the patch preview for Kaiser came out, it said that he was supposed to do his advancements there but in game he had auto advancements, so I guess something got removed there, lol.

And now seems they getting ready to release their latest batch of hero’s in GMS with into the storm, a contest to design Maplestory Cover for the Facebook page with the upcoming Tempest content Release, I can’t wait to get my hands on Luminous!!!
I am not sure if any of you guys know this, but all this Spiegelmann photos found from envelopes were seen in GMS. There a few images that you’ll find:
– a friendship between Von Leon and Spiegelmann (he denied knowing Von Leon)
– himself riding on Horntail (says he was once an adventurer, but was defeated by Horntail, obviously)
– himself building Zakum (which he claims to be something he created as a sculpture for an art project)
– himself

lady syurl is daughter of the past dark lord and lover of current dark lord before he killed the past dark lord
Hmmm… Maybe my korean is poor, but Lania doesn’t seem to br “in love” with Luminous during the 130 quest line. She seems more like a motherly figure that’s happy to see Luminous again.
How about the offline RPG storyline? There’s a completely different storyline there, and it involves the world tree a LOT more than the games.
I read offline RPG and really, there’s not much more information give about it. We haven’t even seen it to my knowledge. (And as of the Legends patch, Offline RPG is slowly following the game’s plot a bit more. There’s a huge focus on the heroes and the Black Mage.)

Most of this stuff doesn’t exist outside KMS so pretty certain most of us are confuzzled now ._.
I am surprised that people outside JMS also thinks Spiegelmann is the Black Mage 😮 You can also see him hugging Horntail and Von Leon in Monster Park drops.
An important detail missing from that chart is Helena was also involved in helping Aran (Aran tutorial; Helena’s graphics are pre-Justice so this may no longer be canon) and Helena was the one that raised Kyrin after having her entrusted from Testonen, another Hero (manga posted on Nexon Japan website; may also be non-canon).
Transcendensce of Life could be the tree that was planted in the center of Victoria Island back in Big Bang, or the tree in Kamna, Jipang. The former was destroyed by Future Henesys and the latter is more of a non-canon area so I’m not sure.
Also JMS has its own original storyline about Dual Blade and Evan disliking each other b/c dragons destroyed DB’s hometown and Evan carries around a dragon.
Obviously version-specific job-related relationships are omitted like the Five Star jobs in JMS (Hayato, Kanna), Jett in GMS and Dragon Warrior in CMS. I wonder if they’d ever be integrated into the main storyline…a hellish endeavor for sure -_-

Eugh. Luminous is not in love with Lania. Is it really hard to believe that two people of the opposite gender can be friends? JUST friends? He cares for her a great deal but he’s not “in love.” with her. Platonic relationships do exist, people. Also, Lania is a little girl for Pete’s sake. It’s a bit gross to think about.
And the rest of the stuff on the chart is a bit off…I don’t believe Mastema had a thing for Demon Slayer, just an undying loyalty. And wasn’t Syl the daughter of the previous Dark Lord? Where’s her relationship line? Come on now.

guys, about this Dauroma guy, the Transcendence of Time that has Magnus as his loyal subordinate, stolen the power of time, and connected both the Maple World and Grandis together…could this Dauroma be an enemy of threat equal tot he Black Mage? Technically speaking, could it be possible that we would have to face both The Black Mage and Dauroma as major potential enemies?

Just an update. Demon Slayer’s brother is revealed to be alive and now the new commander for the BM (Replacing Demon Slayer). Damien (His name i think) locks the transcendence of life in sleepywood (After BM kidnapped her, she went to sleepywood to regen due to all the life energy in the form of Alice) (Forgot the name of the actual place) and keeps his 4 henchmen (the bosses) guarding her.

There’s a character named Daimen that connects Demon to Cygnus.
Yes, I don’t think Luminous is in love with Lania either. He definitely cares about her, but he views her as more of an adopted little sister. The idea of him raising her as a little girl and then falling in love with her is pretty weird. Also, Luminous and Lucia (Lania’s previous incarnation) grew up together at Aurora, and would have viewed each other as non-related siblings back then too.
