MapleStory You & I!
The winter update for MapleStory, You & I has finally been revealed! A video has been released, detailing the many things which will be added this Winter, including new combat systems and maybe even a new Hero class… read on for more information!
You can watch the video above, but I’ll be talking about everything in it anyways so..
First off is the Elite Monster system.
If certain conditions are met, a regular monster will change into an Elite Monster! They will become bigger and stronger, but if you are able to defeat one, you’ll get very good rewards.
Next up are Elite Bosses.
Sometimes while hunting, an Elite Boss will appear! The field will change, leaving only the Elite Boss and Elite Monsters. Join together with the people around you to defeat it!
Elite Bosses will give new rewards (very vague).
There’s also the Rune System.
Runes will appear from time to time in hunting grounds. If you enter a specified command, you can receive the effects of the rune which help you in hunting.
They would like to update hunting in MapleStory, giving you control which leads to fun in hunting. All maps will also have party bonus experience.
You can also see from above that there are some smaller changes, such as everyone having a combo? And damage numbers now move closer and further from the screen based on when the damage was done.
This update will address Cash item burden mitigation, through things such as allowing you to pay for certain Cash items fully through Mileage (instead of the 30% discount it is currently). You will also be able to more easily acquire Mileage through different ways.
Miracle Cubes and other Cash Shop enhancing items will be more easily attainable in-game.
The level up system will be reorganized! Half of all Maplers never reach 4th job, which is a large part of the game. To remedy this, a tutorial will be added to allow Maplers to reach level 100 within one week and to make sure certain advancements aren’t slower than others.
Experience required to level up will also be changed around in order to better fit the new curve.
The equipment upgrading system is also set to be reorganized! It has been determined that the current upgrading system is very complicated and difficult for users. One change is that there will be less chance of your item being destroyed when failing a scroll.
In addition, the many different types of scrolls will be condensed into a smaller amount. I think this means that they’re making more ‘general’ scrolls instead of specific ones.
And of course, no MapleStory update would be complete without a new job!
The new job is actually… a new Hero!
Meet the 6th hero, Eunwol! I’m not actually too sure about the romanization of this Hero’s name, I think its going to be very Korean-culture based from what I’ve seen. If Nexon releases the real name, I’ll update. The English translation would be Silver Moon.
He looks like he’s wearing a knuckle, so finally the pirate hero everyone wanted? But who’s that cat person behind him?
But… if he’s one of the legendary heroes, why have we never heard of him? Well it seems that something happened and Eunwol was forgotten… erased from everyone’s memories?
Eunwol is accompanied by Lang, a small girl from the Anima race. We’ve already been hinted at this in many Pantheon quests, and the Adventurer storyline even has you meeting someone who is an Anima! They have fox characteristics.
The town itself is Asian inspired, and features new round maps.
Next they talk about new concept dungeon content, which means dungeons that don’t require high damage in order to complete! You will need to use your knowledge and strategy in order to win!
They mentioned something called Cash item share. It’s temporary sharing of Cash items between characters in your account.
The video talked about some events which will come with the You & I update, including the World Leap event which I talked about in my last post. It lets you switch worlds once, for free!
There’s something called Naver channeling, I’m not sure what it is but it shouldn’t really matter because Naver is a Korean search portal.
Let’s move on to the update schedule! On December 5, the You & I pre-update will be released! It will include:
- You & I Festival event pre-open!
- World Leap event!
- Naver channeling service conducted!
On December 19, the first patch, MapleStory ORIGIN will be released. It includes:
- 100% Mileage shop, various Cash dependency mitigation benefits!
- Fun Maple growth! Reorganization of growth and experience
- Fun field hunting! Elite Monsters and Rune system will reorganize the battle system!
On January 2, the second patch, the Forgotten Hero ‘Eunwol’ will be released!
- Finally the secret of the Black Mage’s sealing revealed!
- MapleStory’s main world connects to the appearance of the forgotten hero, Eunwol
Finally, on January 16, the 3rd patch, Exceed your Limits! THE SEED will include:
- Challenge-filled new concept dungeon open!

Woot! Now we have a FULL PARTY’S WORTH of Hero classes! You know, when they advertised Jett as being a GMS exclusive hero when advertising Renegades (before they even revealed the name of the class), I thought they were going to use this whole “lost hero” thing for IT. I even thought that MAYBE it could have even been Freud, who landed in the present day in some kind of time warp. Like, since before Freud became a Dragon Master like Evan, he mastered many fields of magic, so i thought maybe since the pact with afrien was broken, that he’d just use spells like an archmage, but ALL elements rather than just one. Anyway, this isn’t the first time I thought of something along the same lines as Nexon. I had thought of something that would unite all the existing job orders in their fight against the Black Mage, right before kms announced the union update. I even named it the Maple Alliance!
I just realized that this new hero is the new “E” in M.A.P.L.E. I mean, it didn’t make sense that Evan was part of it, since he wasn’t originally part of the group, and Freud doesn’t start with “E”, but since Freud was the de facto leader of the group, it kinda makes sense that his name wasn’t bound by the naming restrictions of the others.

I thought it’s Yunnel instead of Eunwol. Which would make more sense because this would mean Nexon is trying to complete S.T.O.R.Y. part of MapleStory and Y highlighting for Yunnel. Can’t wait what the other four heroes are going to be.

well, 10 to 100 was a problem for a lot of players (not me) but i think Nexon is trying to help out the majority of maplers. If you saw that demographic; half of all maplers never hit 4th job. and anyway, they added party play in every map, so i think that means that crockys will be good again? and other maps too.
You’re right. Its mostly new players who have a hard time getting to 4th. I invited a friend to play Ms and he seemed stuck, sometimes unmotivated cause he couldn’t get to 4th (when I wasn’t online to help). We all say “it was never a problem” because we already know the game.

Like she was a female before but the Black Mage for some reason decided to curse only Aran to possibly change into a male and they’ll have a bunch of dialogue poking about that topic if you chose male.
That’s not possible. Aran appears in the present time as female in the Ereve Conference hall and Phantom’s Storyline.
Aran was a male in the phantom’s cutscene in the conference my friend.
According to Leafre, the real name for the new “Forgotten Hero” is ‘Yunnel.’
Translation between English and Korean is a bit different because of the sounds.
If you pronounce it right Yunnel and Eunwol sound the same.
Also not much information is said about this new class so we shouldn’t jump to conclusions on everything and wait for the announcement explaining this new class 😛

New Hero looks really cool. The Elite monsters system and better training will make the game easier i think, but also more fun. Good Job Nexon!

Im so excited to watch some movies about it.
All these frivolous , “player driven” updates are great and all but there still distracting the community from very important points Nexon does not finish squat!!! The sengoku and dragon classes are not finished, not to mention the Cygnus classes that SEEMED to be getting a complete overhaul. Nexon needs to do something about their old content before starting new things. 😦

Sengoku classes were made by Japan, but I do agree with finishing the Cygnus update. As for the Nova race, I wonder what they could come up with as Kaiser and Angelic Buster were both somehow blessed with some sort of power
well remember, The Nova people are only one race in a world that we only have access to a portion of. Grandis is a wholle other world and potentially, just as many classes could come from Grandis that come from Maple World currently, although i dont think Nexon is planning on making that happen. Though if we have the opportunity in the future to discover a new race of Grandis then the possibilities are limitless, we could get 3 more classes from Grandis or 20 more… Nexon still has a lot of potential content to create from Granids.
The thing is, what kind of storyline would the other races have? The Nova have their motive, getting stronger to defeat Magnus, but the other races do not. Perhaps overthrowing Darmoor (the guy that Magnus sorta serves) or something like that would work, but then that would open up an entirely new plot line that would distract from the main one. Plus, it’s a whole lot more programming to do, and I’m not quite sure Nexon would consider that anytime soon. You’re right though, Grandis does have a lot of potential, it’s just unlikely to utilized in the near future.
right, im not saying that finishing the nova classes are at all priority #1, in fact, i dont believe Nexon has any motive to finish the nova class ANY time soon, their storyline really has little to do with the black mage (although they could easily be written into the main story). I think Grandis will be Nexons ‘next step’ after releasing the black mage as a boss–if they ever do that–and thats when they can hone in on Grandis’ potential and create new classes for it.
They were both blessed by ancient artifacts. There just happens to be enough artifacts to finish out the rest of the classes. Pay attention to the story-line and also look in the main hall. You’ll notice Nova heroes that are archers, magicians, and thieves, along side the kaiser(warrior) and angelic buster(pirate) heroes.
Ummm about the main hall background of statues. It’s most likely the statues of the previous Kaisers, the one that came before. If you read the story they did say Kaiser will reincarnate when ever he dies. Play enough games and youll know that background like those are all the same, example Assassin’s creed had statues of different class of assassins in one hall, Guild wars 2 had statues of hero of many class in the Charr City. Just stating what its pretty common to think of. Not to break your hope but if they want to they can just pop out a new artifact for Nova to bring out a new class for the race. Its just a programming away from creating one. Story can be changed anytime.

Wait, so it this guy gonna be a summoner? just kinda looks that way to me with those spirit like figures surrounding him. And they all seem to be slightly animal based spirits too, so that might have something to do with the anima chick following him around. And is it just me or is anyone else sick of having some stupid ‘magical girl’ character following you around? I hate the effect of ABR and the rest of those rings because of the girls that like stalk you! When i play i just want to look cool and i want to be alone :p haha thats totally a personal preference. Anyways i LOVEE LOVE LOVE the artwork!!!! Usually its the character design that i love in MS’s artwork but i LOVE how those figures surrounding him look, very beautifully colored!

Superstar M! you said “all cash shop inventories merged” that means all jobs share the same cash shop inventory which means we can move cash shop items back and forth. But in this, there is the “cash shop sharing” why? I am confused? Shouldn’t cash shop inventory be shared like patch of Superstar M! already?

Storyline will follow that of one where Eunwol was erased from the Maple World, thus memories and trace of him was seemingly non-existent. Pretty much what happened to Peter Bishop at some point or another in my favorite show Fringe, that was falsely cancele. Best show evverr– ANYWAYS!
HOLY EXCITEMENT!! I hope he is just as cool as all our other Heroes, bringing something unique to it’s class like a rightful Hero should…

For everyone annoyed at the “forgotten” part of the new hero, they can make it fit pretty well, like how the black wings wiped out all history of the heroes in general and nobody remembered any of them, maybe this hero finished the seal and his curse was being erased so to speak.
On a different note very excited for new patch also a little bummed my blaze wiz still doesn’t have any love.

For whoever ‘cried’ about that there’s no hero Pirates it’s obviously because the pirates DID NOT exist by then… Only after the Black Mage has attacked a bunch of adventurers travelled to Ellin Forest, where Kyrin’s mother was pregnant with her… Kyrin became the leader of Pirates and she kinda “invented” the Pirate class, which later on she came back to Victoria Island where her boat resides nowdays. So of course there was no Pirate Hero, it ruins the game’s logic…
it doesnt mean that the weapons pirates used were not invented… i mean, he uses a knuckle, people probably used their own fists to fight long before they used any weapon so it is not farfetched to say that this ‘pirate hero’ just used a knuckle before it became popularly used by the pirate class. Not to mention 6 characters completes a full maplestory party. It makes sense when you think about the fact that a party in Maplestory can consist of 6 players.

What you mean is “Adventurer pirates had not been introduced to Victoria before then, as Kyrin was the instuctor who brought them to Victoria.” It is fair to say that the premise of pirates had existed back then, as Kyrin’s mother can be seen in Ellin Forest in possession of a gun. As she expresses an interest in firearms, yet made no implication that she had invented them, It stands to reason that firearms had already existed during the era of the black mage. Likewise, if you consider CWK canon, the Master Pirate statue that recants the story of a legendary pirate made no implication that Kyrin had anything to do with instructing the ways of the pirate to him, and is very likely that he had lived long before Kyrin had left Athena’s care to found her crew, implying that the ways of the Pirate likely were already established.

English translation of name is Silver Moon? First 5 heroes spell out MAPLE, the next 5 will spell out STORY.
The first 5 heroes Mercedes, Aran, Phantom, Luminous, Evan, spell out MAPLE. So considering the new hero starts with S when translated there will be 5 more including this one making it spell STORY.

the funny part about making it easier to hit 100 is that 100 is also around the time that you run out of content to motivate you to keep playing. everyone’s story stuff typically runs around around 100~120. it’s going to be far more glaring if you get there in a week. you’ll get to your character’s big skills and then have nothing but grinding to do with them. oh, and nonsensically imba bosses.

Just leaving a quick comment maplestory is not a complete game. So even more characters will come and maybe the best 2D MMORPG yet.
