EunWol Coming Soon

Woah, this is a HUGE patch!! A ton of stuff was added, including a lot of the stuff mentioned for the first patch of the You & I update (and more!) as well as the sixth hero EunWol! You can’t play him yet but his skills and everything were added.

Game Related

The maximum stat cap has been raised.

Your damage to monsters will now be affected by the difference in their level and yours. If they are lower level than you, your damage will be increased by a certain percentage but if they are higher than you, then your damage will be reduced.

Ability Reorganization

Honor level has been removed. You can now reset your Inner Ability by using your Honor experience, and you can use it even if your Ability is Legendary rank. You can also use your Honor experience to lock an Ability’s rank or stats. Current Circulators and Miracle Circulators will work the same as they do now.

Maple Tutorial

The Maple Tutorial has been added! It is available for users level 10 to 140, and will recommend quests, maps, and content based on your level. Quests recommended by the tutorial can be automatically started remotely, and you can also teleport to any recommended maps or content instantly.

Aswan Liberation War, Spiegelmann’s Strange Gallery, Ariant Coliseum, Monster Carnival, and all minidungeons have been temporarily closed.

Some content’s required levels have been changed.

  • Meisterville – level 35
  • Hekaton – level 60
  • World merged party quests – level 70
  • Pyramid – level 80
  • Mu Lung Dojo – level 120
  • Root Abyss – level 125
  • Monster Park, Monster Park Extreme – level 100
  • Normal/Chaos Zakum – level 90

Zakum

Zakum’s prequests and conditions have been reorganized. You can now fight Zakum in all channels, and the Zakum expedition has been deleted, you must now enter with a party. Anyone level 50 or higher can talk to the job advancers in El Nath to be instantly teleported to the Door to Zakum. They will also give you Zakum’s All Cure Potions.

You no longer need to do stage 1 or 2 of the Zakum prequests (they give only experience and mesos now), Adobis will give you Eyes of Fire and Eye of Fire Fragments. You can now only enter Zakum’s altar twice per day, regardless of mode. Easy/Normal/Chaos Zakum’s entry limits now reset at midnight.

Updated Buddy List

The account buddy system has been added! Now, when you add a friend, you can choose for them to be listed as an ‘account buddy’, meaning all characters in the same world will share that person on their buddy lists. You can change your existing buddies into account buddies by right clicking on them and choosing the option.

A new system called offline login has been added. Now when you choose a character and put in your 2nd password, you can choose to ‘connect privately’, meaning your friends will not receive a popup that you logged in and you’ll appear offline in their buddy lists. You can also change your status while being logged in by clicking the option in the buddy window.

In accordance with the above two things, the buddy UI has been updated! Almost all the buttons have been moved into the right-click menu and you can now give nicknames to any account buddies you have.

Victoria Island’s taxi is now free.

You can now put any consumable boxes on quickslots instead of having to manually click them one by one. (thank you based god!)

The shortcut button below the minimap has been removed, you can now access that content through the new notification icon system which was added in a previous patch.

Enhancement System Changes

Scroll Trace Upgrading

The scroll enhancement system has been changed. You can now use Scroll Traces to upgrade your items (I mentioned these in my last post from some events but I didn’t know what they were for, this is it!). These Scroll Traces can be found by hunting monsters or disassembling scrolls.

The higher the level of your equipment, the lower the success rate and the higher the amount of Scroll Traces that will be used to upgrade your item. These upgrades will take up slots just like regular scrolls. You can still use any other regular scrolls on your items if you want to.

As you can see, this level 120 weapon gets 7 attack from the 30% scroll option. I’ve seen a Kage staff getting 5 magic attack from the 30% option, the level 120 Desperado getting 7 attack, and an Aluminum Bat getting 3 attack. The 30% option for a Root Abyss top (bowman) gave 7 DEX, 120 HP, and if the item has been upgraded 4 times it gives an extra 1 attack.

Additional Potential will only appear on items that already have regular Potential now.

Field Battle System Changes

Field monsters’ health and experience have been increased. Any monsters below level 100 have had their HP increased by 2x and their experience by 1.2x. Monsters above level 100 have had their HP increased by 2~9x and their experience increased by 1.2~4x.

The Rune system has been added! After certain periods of time, Runes will spawn in fields. By pressing <Space Bar> on a Rune, you will be given an input command to enter in order to gain the effects of the Rune. You cannot use any other Runes until 10 minutes has passed. Runes have a variety of effects, but one common one they have is that they will give you 2x experience for 2 minutes. In addition, depending on the type of Rune, you’ll get one of the following:

  • Rune of Speed: for 2 minutes, your speed and attack speed will be increased
  • Rune of Energy: for 2 minutes, you will heal 10% of your HP every second, gain 20% resistance to elements, and receive 20% less damage from monsters
  • Rune of Decay: Instantly kill any enemies around you and for 2 minutes, gain 50% damage
  • Rune of Destruction: for 15 seconds, all monsters’ HP will be reduced by 10% and for 2 minutes, gain 50% damage

Elite Monster

Elite Monsters have been added. If you meet certain conditions, an Elite Monster will appear! They are two times as large as regular monsters and they’ll have increased health, damage, and experience. They’ll use one of a random set of skills.

When defeated, Elite Monsters will drop enhanced rewards of the monster it was, and if its level 110 or higher, it will also drop Rare~Epic equipment, Cubes and Flames of Reincarnation, Golden Hammers, or Protection Scrolls.

Elite Bosses have also been added! If you meet certain conditions, an Elite Boss will appear. When they do, all other monsters will disappear and only Elite Monsters will remain. When an Elite Boss spawns, all nearby maps will receive a message showing which map it is in.

After defeating an Elite Boss, a bonus stage will trigger. In this bonus stage, you can get a large amount of experience and mesos, Rare~Unique equipment less than level 120, various Cubes and Flames of Reincarnation, Additional Potential Stamps, Epic Potential Scrolls, or Protection Scrolls.

Battle System Changes

The battle system has been changed. The time of invincibility after being attacked has been reduced.

Combo Kills

Combo Kill and Multi Kill systems have been added. When you kill 3 or more monsters in one skill, it counts as a Multi Kill, and when you kill many monsters in a row, it counts as Combo Kills. Based on your Multi Kill and Combo Kill streaks, you’ll receive bonus experience from monsters.

Party bonus experience has been increased. Instead of being in only specific maps, party play bonuses will now be available in all maps! If you have 2 or more members in a party, your bonus experience increase proportionally. It will range from 125% to 275% based on the number of party members.

If your party attacks the same monster, its experience will be increased in proportion to the number of party members, up to 3 people. This system will be restricted or reduced in certain content however.

New Damage Effects

The display of damage effects has been changed. In the options you can now choose between the existing and new damage effects. It basically makes damage ‘fade out’ by moving up and becoming smaller. It also applies to damage taken.

simple party matching system has been added. In level appropriate maps, a party invitation message will appear. You can choose to use or not use this system in your options.

Skill Changes

Based on the changes to monsters’ HP and experience, instant kill skills have been adjusted.

  • Extreme Magic (IL) Ice/Lightning Archmage – Extreme Magic (I/L): chance of instant death has been decreased from 15% to 10%
  •  Ranger – Mortal Blow: chance of instant death has been decreased from 15% to 10%
  • Advanced Charge Paladin – Advanced Charge: chance of instant death has been decreased from 10% to 5%
  • Beholder's Revenge Dark Knight – Beholder’s Revenge: chance of instant death has been decreased from 30% to 10%
  • Dark Impale Dark Knight – Dark Impale: chance of instant death has been decreased from 10% to 2%
  • Battleship Bomber Captain – Battleship Bomber: chance of instant death has been decreased from 100% to 20%
  • Blue Streak Kaiser – Blue Streak: chance of instant death has been decreased from 25% to 10%
  • Advanced Earth Break Zero – Advanced Earth Break: chance of instant death has been decreased from 20% to 10%
  • Advanced Storm Break Zero – Advanced Storm Break: chance of instant death has been decreased from 10% to 5%
  • Don't Block my Way Soul Weapon – Get out of my Way

Other skills that have instant kill effects but have not been changed may be adjusted or replaced in later balance patches. These include:

  • Final Cut Dual Blade – Final Cut: this skill has a long cooldown, so the instant death usage is low
  • Highkick Demolition Mercedes – High Kick Demolition: chance of instant death is low
  • Absolute Kill Luminous – Absolute Kill: 100% chance to instantly kill an enemy is the main concept of the skill
  • Sniping Marksman – Sniping: 100% chance to instantly kill an enemy and no cooldown is currently the concept of the skill. By collecting data after the patch, effect might be changed.
  • Head Shot Captain – Headshot: see Sniping
  •  Wild Hunter character card effect: chance to activate is very low

Aran’s Combo Tempest skill’s effect on monsters will no longer be activated by using Combo Tempest again. I think this change was made so that you can’t just spam Combo Tempest and train like that haha.

Third Rogue Set

Equipment under level 100 have had set effects added! These sets apply for 20 level intervals (I think this means that for example, one set will include both the level 60 and 70 equipment?).

The one above is the Third Rogue set and uses the level 90 set with the level 80 gloves. The 2 set effect is bad but the 3 set gives 4% HP and MP, and the 4 set gives 4 LUK and 4 attack. I think this is a good change to make lower level equipment useful!

Field monsters’ equipment drop rate has been decreased. The selling price of equipment under level 110 has been increased. The fees to identify potential on equipment less than level 120 have been decreased. Equipment levels 30~70’s fees have been reduced by 75% and equipment levels 70~120’s fees have been reduced by 50%.

Drops Potential Rank

Dropped items will now show their potential rank with a nifty new effect.

The Forgotten Hero, EunWol

EunWol

The sixth hero, EunWol has been added into the data! He is confirmed to be a pirate class that uses STR and a knuckle.

Male and Female EunWol

EunWol is not gender-restricted, but the illustrations of him are definitely the male version (take that, everyone who said he was a girl!). In addition, EunWol’s character card effects are 1%/2%/3%/5% minimum and maximum critical damage.

Miu Miu - Pointy Ear Fox Town

Miu Miu looks amazing! Here is a render of the main map (thanks to Insoya.com!). The BGMs are also really great, I think something everyone can agree on is that MapleStory’s BGMs never fail to impress.

Miu Miu - Pointy Ear Fox Town (in-game)

It’s hard for me to make a render of my own for the map due to its many effects, but here’s one screenshot of how it (should) look in-game. The rain effect is nice, and I’m not sure if those bushes will actually cover so much of the screen haha.

Lucid

Something interesting is that this girl shows up in EunWol’s tutorial. The label for her in the data is ‘lucid’, like lucid dreaming? Could she be the dream manipulator we’ve heard about in the past? Did she have something to do with why no one remembers EunWol?

EunWol and Luminous EunWol and Rang

Here’s a couple of illustrations from EunWol’s tutorial. They also added the pictures of EunWol with the other heroes, and those without him, but we’ve already seen them.

although, I wonder what MAPLE WORLD’s forgotten hero is doing in Grandis. Even more mysterious than him being erased from everyone’s memories, perhaps. Well, those pirates FINALLY got their pirate hero. Anyway, the two currently known heroes, CURRENTLY involved in the Black Mage’s sealing are both mages themselves, so I wonder what role Eunwol played? Is it possible that luminous and/or freud didn’t ACTUALLY do their respective part in sealing the mage, that said role was a placeholder in their memories to make sense in the absence of Eunwol?

Woot! I just realized that us HEROES will FINALLY be able to max the stackage on our Heroic Memories!
There were 14 adventurers, no probs there
when all is said and done (and by that, I mean that Blaze Wizards and Night Walkers FINALLY get revamped), there will be six koc’s so 1 stack of Queen of Tommorrow + 5 stacks of Glory of Guardians,
while there is TECHNICALLY only 5 stacks of For Libery, at least XENON can get max stackage, (5 stacks from the other resistance, since he doesn’t have one of his own, 5 stacks is already as high as he can get)

In the explanation video, they said that a new EXP curve graph will be introduced (they’ll change the EXP needed to level up).

So Max, why haven’t they done it yet? (You didn’t write about it). That’s what they said they’re going to do in the explanation video… And if so, do you think the new EXP curve will be introduced in the closest updates?

    • Max
      December 10, 2013 at 3:35 am

I might have misheard/mistranslated but all the exp changes to monsters, exp bonuses, etc should probably be enough to make levelling easier.

    • Dark Evan
      December 23, 2013 at 4:51 am

Hey, its better than a CLASS that STARS OFF at “to what not so long ago would be the highest level for armor” THAT would be spoon feeding. (and by “that WOULD BE spoon feeding”, I mean “that IS spoon feeding”, since that is EXACTLY what the class that came BEFORE Eunwol)
BTW, it actually WAS “so long ago”, its been at LEAST FOUR years since GLOBAL MS got their level 110 Dragon gear, out of LESS THAN NINE, while it’s been over FOUR AND A HALF out of TEN years since KOREA got it.

And here is another over-powered new job, and a ‘hero’ too. I wonder if they like to change the story of maple all the time… I don’t like the flow of the story, so messed up… They could have release some other job instead of another hero; there are 14 adventurers, 1 archer job is missing. wow this is literally the worst new character job to ever be added to the game

looks like kanna ripoff, with the worst hyper skills and the most useless link skill in the game. the patch looks miserale. and seriously “Monsters above level 100 have had their HP increased by 2~9x” … WTF>?!??!

they increase the amount of hp on monsters by 2 to 9x the amount? that’s INSANE.

How am I supposed to kill things now? They increase the health without increasing our damage or adjusting the damage on skills accordingly…again WTF?

    • Niggaplz
      December 11, 2013 at 8:02 am

First of all, people have been begging for a Pirate hero. If you don’t like it then don’t play it. Simple as that. The whole point of them raising the hp of monsters is to inspire people to join parties. Did you not read this and previous updates? That’s their goal. To ENCOURAGE teamwork. Remember? They are fixing party xp. And btw, the most useless hyper in the game goes to F/P. Just saying.

      • Anon
        December 11, 2013 at 2:53 pm

So I need to max lv up by partying now?

Great idea… too bad KMS is a ghost town. And every single update keeps making the game worse.

Wasn’t the hp increase on bosses enough? Unleashed destroyed this game yet they do the same thing again by increasing the hp on monsters…

Unless the hp increase is only in party areas? But there’s no mention of that by Max.

        • Dark Evan
          December 14, 2013 at 7:48 pm

Yes,the HP increase IS only in party areas, but EVERY AREA is a PARTY AREA now. Isn’t it WONDERFUL? Party Areas are freaking AWESOME! Most of their PREVIOUS flaws existed ONLY because a SELECT FEW maps were party play, and even MOST party zones weren’t worth using the way LHC and SH were, because a majority of them used normal map EXP and HP. And Unlimited nerfed pt play to the GROUND. SERIOUSLY NEXON, PT BONUS EXP DOESNT STACK WIT OTHER BONUSES? AT LEAST NOW THEY’RE BUFFING THE PT BONUS SO ITS ACTUALLY WORTH NOT SOLOING

    • December 11, 2013 at 10:14 am

      December 12, 2013 at 8:09 pm

Seriously though, everyone one-shots normal monsters in the game. I can’t say too “soon” in the game because we pretty much start one-shotting monsters on maple island. That’s just ridiculously stupid and even with 9x HP most regular monsters will still get one-shotted. Just watch and see. By the way that’s a beast looking action-figure bull they’re throwing into maplestory 2.

          • December 12, 2013 at 4:17 am

But still, this guy’s right. It worries me a lot to see the increase in HP from 2x~9x. What if you WANT to train alone SOMETIMES? What if you DON’T ALWAYS have someone else in the map to party up with? (It happens a lot that people train alone because there’s no one else to train with). So what, if people want to train alone now, they’ll have to die again and again? This guy has a point…

Why is there mega punch and island strike in 1st job? esp they are very similar and mega punch is clearly weaker

    • December 11, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Eunwol hasn’t been released in KMST yet. So possibly he has some special use for mega punch? “apparently Drag Pulling skills chain to Mega Punch”

Do you HONESTLY think a 300-year old hero could be using ANY pirate weapon OTHER than a KNUCKLE? Seriously, the RUNNING THEME of pirate weapons (minus knuckles) is advanced TECHNOLOGY. Thusly, a pirate hero would HAVE to wield a KNUCKLE.

Does bind area work with boss monsters?

    • December 12, 2013 at 3:14 pm

Most likely yes. (I don’t think there is a bind skill in maplestory that doesn’t bind bosses)

Eunwol has three attacking skills in fourth job, but wind soul attack seems to be the highest damage, so will we juz spam wind? Maybe the fire for extra exp.. How about the bomb punch? Nice amination but seems to be the lowest damage? Will it be a 1 key spam job again?

    • Anonymous
      December 12, 2013 at 10:01 pm

well i think that the wind is mostly for bossing since it only hits 3 mob, much like ds demon impact. the land would be the normal attack of ds and fire is just like the demon cry, except its doesnt look full screen.

Auto-res with only 180sec cooldown? The ability to “separate souls” for 100% more exp? Kinda ridiculous….

And they better not mess with Snipe!!!!! Nah, I’m sure it wouldn’t be a big deal to reduce its instant-kill chance, especially with these mob and training changes that I whole-heartedly agree with.

Powerbomb Punch is too epic to be a mob skill. Make it a 1vs1 skill and replace that stupid looking wind spirirt attack lol.

For those that are concerned about the massive hp increase and minimal exp increase to monsters dont forget that Nexon is also lowering the experience curve to level so all in all I think we will actually level at the same rate or faster. They did say in a previous update that they wanted more players to hit level 100 and to be able to do so within a week so it wouldn’t make sense to make it harder to level immediately afterword.

In my opinion it is great to give monsters more hp and reduce the exp required for players to level. Think about it. Assuming the leveling speed remained the same you would generally want higher monster hp so that it takes longer to clear a map resulting in fewer situations where you are waiting for monsters to spawn (resulting in lost effeciency/time/exp) It makes sense to deal with the monster spawn issue when they are encouraging party play, after all isn’t clearing the map super fast and then waiting around for 8 seconds a big problem with large parties hunting together? That has certainly been my experience. It is definitely a better solution than just increasing the spawn rates of all maps.

I will sadly have to agree with those saying that this class looks a little too “ordinary”.
All of the heroes that we got provided something new to the table, and all we get here is stuff that we’ve gotten used to. (eg: consecutive attacks, keydowns, etc)
I wish that they had done something more with the “spirits” theme. This is where I think Xenon’s skill-switching really would have been perfect for. (like switching spirits for a different style of attack).
All we have to judge on are the bare, naked skills right now, so I’ll hold off on my final opinion once he comes out proper.

      P for phantom
      L for luminous
      E for Eunwol

Evan it not a hero. He is considered the “New hero” When he first came out he was known for that. The real Evan hero was Freud but he was fighting for the dragons which Black Mage was genociding…

    kidkood :
But still, this guy’s right. It worries me a lot to see the increase in HP from 2x~9x. What if you WANT to train alone SOMETIMES? Then go play an RPG on a console, and grind your character on THAT game

What if you DON’T ALWAYS have someone else in the map to party up with? (It happens a lot that people train alone because there’s no one else to train with).

Then you need to find friends. I mean, its not nintendo wifi connection, where you need someone’s personal info to play with them over the net its a fking free roaming mmo

So what, if people want to train alone now, they’ll have to die again and again? This guy has a point…

No, if they want to train alone, they can CHOOSE to do so AT THE COST of dying again and again, OR they can CHOOSE to DEFY their own preferences and train with OTHERS. Just because the option is UNDESIRABLE does NOT mean it doesn’t EXIST.

the /gg on that whole line of babble is that the other people on the server aren’t always worth trying to make friends with. a lot of people stick to partying with folks they know from outside the game because the pubbies are too unreliable and/or stupid to bother with. so I suppose thay guy expects you to not want to play when your pals are busy or something…

honestly? the person you are quoting is a complete idiot. if there was no death penalty then “hurr u can train evn tho u die” would be a semivalid arguement. but there is one, rendering it completely invalid.

Hey max, I have a doubt. With this new enhance system, will we still be able to enhance equips that have 0 slots (with the enhances that add up stars to the item)?

I’ve mained a Buccaneer since they first came out because I have a deep love for fist fighting in video games. It has been 6 years since then and they’ve been the only knuckle using class (barring Strikers/TBs because they were essentially a reskin) and now we get TWO knuckle classes in the same year. I was estatic about revamped TB and I’m super excited for EunWol. The changes to party play, exp, and mob health look great too!

But there’s one thing I noticed that seemed off about EunWol. He gains a HUGE boost to crit min/max from his mastery skill but he hardly gets any critical chance at all? It seems like Weakness Insight will really only be useful on bosses (assuming it works on bosses, that is) and I can’t really see myself taking that bomb punch hyper. Is his crit chance missing from this list, Max? Or am I forgetting something? This way it seems like the only way to make use of his crits is to rely on phantom link and crit rings.
