MapleStory 2014 Summer Update – Coordinator’s Invitation~
The Coordinator’s Invitation event is over! They released information about this year’s summer update, there are three different parts which I will outline in my post! Sadly, no 5th job!

Haha, there’s a wall that says “I want this!!” and people can write things they want changed/added to MapleStory on a little post-it note to put on.
Some things I’ve seen are a Resistance revamp, the removal of the 12 Link Skill limit, an actually useful Link Management skill, and Damage Skins working on Zero. Someone even asked for all Mikhails to be turned into Paladins LOL.
There’s cosplayers now, this one is Cygnus!
Finally, it’s time to go in! Only 20 minutes left until it finally starts~
Here’s the timetable for the event! Note: I am not sure what like any of this entails, and whether they’re in-game or real life events. Honestly the only time I can see that would be appropriate to announce new content would be that little block with the developers or the Q&A…

Here’s the bingo game, looks like everyone will have to choose which characters to put on their board.
It finally started! The BJ is doing a medley of MapleStory BGMs now.
They’re doing the quiz now! This question for example is “What are the names of these items?”. Looks like they’re running about 20 minutes behind schedule.
“What lines are spoken at this moment in this video?” It’s from the Justice update, where Hilla says that Maple World will be in his hands soon!
One of the directors of MapleStory, Hwang Sun-young has made his appearance!
They are continuing to replace negative gameplay, balance characters, and renew older content. They also want to reduce the burden on Cash items and help create a deep sense of fun in MapleStory!
The first patch of the summer update is called Touch of the Coordinator: Star Force!
This patch will include updated maps in Minar Forest, Ludibrium Clocktower, Dead Mine, and Dragon’s Forest where fallen stars have strengthened the monsters there! These monsters give better experience and rewards than regular monsters.
It also includes the new Star Force enhancement system, which was designed to that users don’t have to rely on Cash items. Now, when you pass an enhancement, you get one more star but if you fail, you lose one star. There’s a new max stars depending on the level equip and the destruction rate has been reduced greatly.
This also includes the equipment traces system where if your item is destroyed while scrolling, you can get Equipment Traces of your item which will carry its scrolled stats and potential. If you use these Traces on an identical item, you can regain all those stats!
There will be a boss reorganization, for bosses level 100 to 140. This includes Zakum, Hilla, Easy Magnus, and Easy Van Leon as well as the addition of Easy Horntail.
They have designed it so that you can use equipment from hunting regular monsters and Star Force enhancements to be able to challenge these bosses.
New level 120 ~ 140 equipment will drop from regular monsters, and new level 110 ~ 130 equipment will drop from bosses!
Now, from level 100 to 140, you will have a variety of content and you can choose which of them to play with! There’s level appropriate bosses, Star Force maps, and some regular content as well.
Skills have been updated! The way you acquire 4th job SP has been changed slightly, and now you get all your 4th job SP from level 100 to 140. The skill UI has also been changed to allow you to put more than 1 SP into a skill at one time.
There is also a new effect when you level up and gain access to a new Hyper Skill.
This first patch will be released on July 24, with 21 jobs getting adjustments for job balancing! They want to avoid making sudden changes so they will continue to gradually change jobs.
The patch will also include reorganizations of Evolving System and the Maple Tutorial system.
Now, level 100 will be the true beginning of your Maple story!
The second patch is called Shining Star! It features better events and minigames.
Welcome to Star Planet! It is a new area where characters from all worlds can come together to participate in minigames and events, open year-long!
Existing characters simply need to press the Star Planet button to move there, and in the future, you will even be able to create a new character (after choosing the world and job) to go straight into Star Planet!
Regardless of your level or job, everyone starts off as a Newbie in Star Planet. Play minigames such as Rock Paper Scissors, Maple Marvel, One Card, Yutnori, and Typing Defense to gain Star Points and raise your rank! Challenge yourself to become the Shining Star of Star Planet!
There will be new challenges every week, which anyone can challenge regardless of Star Grade!
There’s a regular section (random challenges), celebrity section (who is most popular?), and star section (the last step to becoming a Shining Star).
You can get Star Points through the minigames I mentioned above but also through events such as Bingo with Everyone, 1:100 Rock Paper Scissors, and Lucky Lottery.
In Maple World, you gain EXP to level up but in Star Planet, your goal is to get Star Points to get your Star Grade up!
There are a variety of other fun things in Star Planet including a plaza, fitting rooms, the Shining Star Stage, a large screen and experience buffs!
Mileage will be easier than ever to get! It is no longer acquired through killing bosses, elite monsters, theme dungeons, or Monster Park. You can now only get Mileage through minigames and world events on Star Planet!
The Mileage shop will also be updated in this patch I believe.
Don’t get too excited about this poster, they’re not new jobs (otherwise they would have mentioned that!).
MapleStory has 35 different characters with 2400 different skills! Each character has different details and types of content.
MapleStory is… a game to try out new characters?!
Characters are made up of their appearance, skills, personality, and story. In this summer update, they will be renewing older characters to breathe life into their stories and balancing! 132 skills from 32 jobs will be changed to make each of them unique and fun.
They used things like Dimensional Library, Child of God Zero, the new Mushroom Kingdom, and Friends Story as examples of story content they are aiming for. They want the characters to have personality and for the story to be interesting and interactive!
They put up pictures of various characters that are currently ‘active’. What’s interesting is that Will is there! I guess Hilla wasn’t lying when she said he wouldn’t go down so easily at the end of the Zero storyline.
The third and final patch for this update will be the First Battle with the Black Mage! I’m excited for this one, it will definitely be very interesting. They will expand on the character stories of Suu and Orca.
The patch will include many things such as the story of the Commanders, high-level content, battling along with story telling, various pixel rendering techniques, a never before seen thrilling battle, new high level weapons and equipment set, job renewals, and gradually revealing the Black Mage himself.
So to summarize, on July 24, they will release the Touch of the Coordinator: Star Force update, including the new Star Force enhancement system and job balancing. This patch will also include the fallen star maps, new level 100~140 equipment, and boss changes.
On August 14, they will release the Shining Star update, with the Mileage changes and the new Star Planet event map!
Finally, in September, they will release the Black Magician’s First Battle: Orca & Suu update! Many classes (including the Resistance) will get a reorganization in this patch and there will be new content for high level characters!
The new director of MapleStory said a few things about the game. He said they think items such as Royal boxes are fun and that level 200 – 250 content is not a high priority. He also said that they weren’t initially planning on updating Aran and Evan but due to many comments from so many users, they have changed their minds.

Seriously? There is LITERALLY ZERO content for over level 200 characters in KMS, all the EXISTING content for those over 200 are exclusive to GMS/CMS, and there’s only 2, and one of them SUCKS!

YES! FINALLY! Evan and Aran are good damage-wise, but they have a COMPLETE LACK of bells and whistles. They REALLY needed this win!
I could not agree more. I feel like Nexon knows about our complains about post-bb being too easy, so they are like “Lol ok here u have ur pre-BB horrible leveling, gl hf with 200+”.
But they are doing it wrong, they spoil us with 2x events, loads of ways to get more exp (Yellow MPE pot, EXP COUPON events, Zero char card, Mercedes link skill, Pendant of Spirit, ect.) and give us OP leveling spots all the way till 160, and then are like “lol jk leveling sucks, you thought it was easy, haha, there is no good content for you so enjoy super slow pre-bb leveling”.
I think they want to make 250 feel like the achievement that 200 was pre-bb, but dear lord, it seems like Nexon’s Designers never went to school and don’t know the fundamental basics of Game Design. You can’t show your player what amazing things lay ahead of him and then expect him to be happy with something FAR LESS as efficient/good than what you showed/have given the player before, they will feel that it’s cheating.
Also, Apparently this summer (after one and a half years after we posed the questions) Nexon America finally went to Korea with the Better Maple results, and iirc one of the biggest statements was that there was a lack of 200+ content. So they discussed it in Korea and were like “lol Better Maple poll, what is that. Let’s ignore it even tho you promised your American audience that you would change the game and let their voice be heard, “level 200-250 has no high priority”. THEN WHAT WAS THE WHOLE POLL FOR?! It was just a way to give us a false sense of “we are listening” but in the reality they devs are stubborn and don’t listen at all. If they were they would have listened.
I love how bosses still haven’t been adjusted. They stated they would do it during RED, and for those of you that know even the tiniest bit of coding, you know that literately all Nexon has to do is CHANGE some variables. The stats of monsters have to be changed and drops, that is all. Just numbers replaced with other numbers. Someone can do that in 20 minutes during their lunch break! We still don’t have that. I honestly feel like we should rise up against this, but I don’t know how. If maybe we could all go to the forums or something and express our concern, but that will only work for the people that play GMS and even then, they won’t listen.

It is a bit strange that they are not including 5th job seeing as they adjusted the amount of SP required to finish your 4th job skills. But, the thing that I find even more strange is that their is no new job classes for the update, they usually have one for a major update like this. Perhaps their is one planned for the update, but nobody who went to the gathering reported it yet. However a very interesting twist would be if the new job class was that they made both Orchid and Lotus a job class during the third update, seeing as the third update specifically mentions them. But, wishful thinking aside they probably will be a boss fight. Anyways, I think that we are not getting the whole story because as of right now everything mentioned seems to be a game tweak or something minor instead of a significant addition that Summer patches typically add.
So it’s a raging river of shit until September. Yay.
Indeed, it seems we are just getting updates that we ALREADY know about from tespia for this update. However I find it strange that they decided to blank out two characters if they are not considered to be anything significant according to what Max says. I think that they might be a character class, but people who went to the conference didn’t mention yet because they considered it to be minor in comparison to what was mentioned. I think this to be the case because why would nexon go through the trouble of hiding something if it wasn’t important.
If you look closely the male character has a scepter that a king would usually hold and the female has a crown. I don’t know if the silhouettes are even meant to be filled in, they might simply represent the potential of any player in Maple World to become the king or queen of Star Planet?

Can someone tell me if they are going to be getting rid of perma beginners, legends, etc. And make them ALL newbies? If so I’m going to be pretty disappointed..
Newbies is a ‘Star Grade’, it has nothing to do with your job or character. It’s just a ranking in Star Planet.

Aside from the Lotus/Orchid patch, and the story stuff, this is mostly stuff that’s in Tespia right now. And the minigame patch is pure laziness–they’re already in game, so all they have to do is add two maps. So that makes one of the three patches with new content, no 5th job, and possibly no new class (I think they’ve pulled classes from nowhere, so it’s possible), AND a giant middle finger with the last comment there. D:. No one likes royal boxes (if they’re similar to Premium Surprise Style Boxes). No one likes to gamble to get prizes if they don’t have to. Why would they think players would want that? And 200-250 being low priority is junk. Why raise the cap when they refuse to make new content? And not revamping Evan and Aran until they got enough complaints was garbage. Their quest EXP was junk, and was pre-Big Bang still. We’ve been waiting months with barely any new content for something that’s essentially junk. Nice job, Nexon. Nice job. I don’t know how they expect people to get excited for this. It’s just more BORING CONTENT.

That’s great for KMS but I think GMS will remain ruined. A simple copy + paste will not solve our problems anymore. GMS is too different from KMS now. Not to mention KMS has 35 classes as Max stated whereas GMS has 39 due to Hayato, Kanna, Jett, and Beast Tamer Chase. GMS tries to keep up with KMS, be unique, and everything else at the same time and they fail at it every time. It will only get worse until they scrap the failed fan-service and focus on creating a stable game that the masses can enjoy; and give up on trying to please a few hardcore no-life gamers that don’t know what they want. Which I believe are the minority by far who don’t even spend enough NX to be worth while. Never mind the fact that no-lifers will always quit Maple because they have the audacity to compare it to things like WoW which isn’t even in the same category.

They give out special Cash equipment at random, they’re the same as GMS’ Surprise Style Boxes I believe.

I cant believe they are just not going to do something better with Angelic Busters and Mechanics…35% proc chance on SS Expert…like whats the point of naming a skill Soul Seeker expert if the main skill is not even affected. I think they should at least make proc chance 50% or give a 50% to create 2 additional orbs when using regular Soul Seeker…like common really nexon are that dumb at balancing? + Angelic buster have 2 completely useless skills Melody cross (accuracy buff…wtf= and Pretty exaltation (100% recharge chance…when we dont even f%”# need it cuz we already have Affinity IV…)
Well, a lot of classes have completely useless skills. Dawn Warrior uses a new attack each job advancement. Instead of 1 skill at 4th job he is COMPLETELY useless. Threre is no need to use any other skills besides pull and attack. Nexon should give new functionality to everyone.
