Maple Now (April 9, 2026) – 3rd Common Core & Probability-Related Fixes

Okay I know I said I probably wouldn’t be doing Maple Now translations anymore but this one was relatively short and easier to write up (maybe because this April patch is quite small) so I just did it.

Maple Now (April 9, 2026)

New Common Core

  • There is one new common core being added in this patch as well as changes to existing common cores.
  • The new common core enhances the existing 5th job branch common skills. They are tailored to each job with different values and visuals, as well as improved in terms of usability.
  • Adventurer Warriors – Blitz Shield
    • The offensive and defensive features have been separated.
    • The defensive feature of the shield is the same as before but the offensive feature has been changed into Blitz Burst, a Final Attack hit that activates at a certain rate.
  • Adventurer Magicians – Arcana Override
    • Arcana Override is already a very good skill so it didn’t have as many changes.
    • First, they reduced the number of stages it has to 2.
    • In addition, to ensure the skill can affect the miniburst damage, the duration has been increased from 60 seconds to 70 seconds.
  • Adventurer Archers – Evolve
    • The cooldown has been changed to 120 seconds.
    • They wanted the skill to function as a more meaningful burst skill so it now does a powerful attack right at the start.
    • You can now use Evolve even if your Phoenix/Freezer/Raven are not summoned.
  • Adventurer Thieves – Ultimate Dark Sight
    • Originally, it was just a buff skill but it now has an additional attack effect.
    • The effect has a different Shadow Partner based on the job.
    • It was meant to give the skill a more aggressive feel with added feedback where you deal additional hits over time with a big final hit.
  • Adventurer Pirates – Pirate Flag
    • It was originally an install skill but it was a bit difficult to give the buff to party members, and it was inconvenient to have to keep moving it so it is now a standard buff that instantly affects everyone around you.
  • Cygnus Knights – Cygnus Phalanx
    • It was a bit hard to get full hits on this skill so now the knights are a type of projectile that moves quickly towards enemies and slows down while hitting them.
  • Heroes – Freud’s Wisdom
    • The feature where you had to use it ahead of time to start stacking the skill has been removed.
    • The 1st/2nd/3rd stacks’ stats are now just passive stats, and when you use the skill, you will receive the 4th/5th stacks’ stats. If you use it one more time, you will get the 6th stack’s invincibility.
  • Resistance – Resistance Line Infantry
    • Similar to Cygnus Phalanx, they want to make it easier to get the full hits off.
    • There is now a maximum attack limit and compressed the total time required to reach that number of attacks.
  • Demon – Call Mastema
    • When you use it, you will automatically receive a buff that decreases damage taken 12 times.
    • When Mastema attacks a certain number of times, it will deal an enhanced attack.
  • Nova – Pantheon
    • The cooldown has been changed to 120 seconds so it can function as a more meaningful burst damage skill.
    • You can now benefit from the death ignore effect even if you have Heaven’s Door or Alleria’s Elixir active.
  • Transcendent – Transcendent
    • When the Time Blessing’s afterimages attack a certain number of times, it will activate an additional attack.
  • FriendsWorld – Another World’s Afterimage
    • The duration has been increased to 60 seconds so it doesn’t have downtime anymore.
    • The image now changes to different scenes in Seoul to make it a bit more fun.
  • Lef – Magic Circuit Full Drive
    • When you use the skill, it will apply a debuff to nearby enemies. Attacking enemies with the debuff will activate an additional hit.
  • Anima – Lotus Flower
    • There is a new effect where an additional hit is activated every few seconds to give it an offensive element.
  • For this new Common Core, it will cost less Sol Erda/Sol Erda Fragments compared to the other common cores. Its relatively lower in terms of utility compared to them so they thought it would make sense for it to be easier to upgrade.
  • They designed the skills to be personalized to each job in terms of colour and effects.

Changed Common Cores

  • Sol Hecate
    • You can now change Sol Hecate’s appearance by using the Sol Hecate: Pactum skill.
    • You can unlock 5 different skins by paying 1b mesos each. When you unlock a skin, you will be able to use any of the 5 colour variations.
    • It will change the skill’s appearance, as well as illustration, sounds, and skill voices.
    • In addition to the skins available through mesos, they will be adding Skin Vouchers for special ones. In the April update, two of these will be available through a Cash Shop item.
    • They will continue to add new skins over time.
  • Erda Fountain
    • Previously this skill would activate based on the number of monsters killed. It has been changed to activate automatically at regular intervals.
    • You can now reinstall the skill to move it to somewhere else.
    • It cannot be used in bosses anymore (since the functionality change would make it work in bosses now).
  • Decent Holy Fountain
    • You can now reinstall the skill even if the previously summoned Holy Fountain or the Holy Trace is on the map.
    • This is for cases when cooldown reduction lets the skill come back up while the old one is still summoned.
  • Common Skill Value Adjustments
    • 5th Job: Spider in Mirror, Crest of the Solar, Erda Shower (Erda Fountain)
    • 6th Job: Sol Janus
    • Previously, these skills had the same values for all jobs. Therefore, the differences in base stats for each job were not reflected very well so their usefulness was different for each job. They have adjusted the values to match. This was a feature they created with Sol Hecate and have now applied to these other common skills.
  • V Matrix Special Core Equip Cooldown Applied
    • When you equip a Special Core, the full cooldown will be applied.
    • They did not intend for players to continuously switch V Matrix Special Cores every few seconds.

Skill Changes

  • The Skill Acceleration concept has been added.
  • Some jobs use their Origin skills first before other burst skills. In these cases, if the Origin skill’s cast time is long, their next burst or miniburst become a little delayed by that amount of time.
  • They wondered what they should do about this, and it wasn’t like they could just get rid of the cutscenes. That’s why they came up with this system.
  • After using an Origin skill, you will receive a buff called Skill Acceleration for 15 seconds. While the buff is active, if you use any skills with 60s~120s cooldowns (burst skills), they will have their cooldowns decreased by the Origin cast time.
  • This will also help in parties where bursts can become off sync depending on when each player uses their Origin.
  • There’s things that they can and can’t predict when adding systems like this, and there’s a chance that this might result in unexpected changes in damage patterns so they will closely examine the situation in the test servers to correct any issues that may arise as soon as possible.

Events

  • Change Burning: Lucid
    • The new boss Helena has been added for the Change Burning: Lucid event. You’ll have to use Lucid’s movement skills to stay in the safe zones and avoid Helena’s attacks. In Nightmare Mode, there is also a special pattern at the end with fun animations.
    • If you clear Nightmare Mode Helena, you can receive a Lucid themed finish attack effect.
  • Echoes of Nightmares
    • This is a new simple event. You can hunt monsters to have a low chance of getting Echoes of Nightmares, which youc an use to summon additional monsters on the map (like a booster).
    • The Change Burning is the main event for this anniversary as the Mascot Parade is mostly an attendance check. But there’s a limit on how much you can hunt while playing as Lucid, so they added something that would motivate players to continue hunting after that.
  • 23rd Anniversary Event
    • A special week-long event to celebrate MapleStory’s birthday where you can take pictures around the event map to get cute cosmetic rewards.
  • Children’s Day
    • A small week-long event where you can play a suika-game themed minigame.
    • Something they want to try as a preliminary test is that you can play this minigame even while you’re in an afk map like the sauna.
  • MapleStory & BTS Kin Ama-jin-g Hot Time
    • On April 22, BTS Jin himself will be logged in start the event (subject to time because he’s a busy guy).
    • If you login on that day, you will receive Jin’s Surprise Gift which contains 3 Sol Erda and 100 Sol Erda Fragments.
    • There will be an event map where you can be invited if you are logged in a certain time. 1500 players will be invited over 15 event maps with 100 players each. BTS Jin will move from map to map and talk to players.
    • All of the invited players will receive 7 Jin’s Cheer items, which can be used to give everyone on the same map +200% experience for 30 minutes (stacks with other effects).
    • In addition, 77 of the invited players will receive the ‘Astral Touch’ gloves. It’s a special ‘Jin Label’ and they’re numbered from 1 to 77.
    • BTS Jin can also directly gift them to players! He specifically wanted to be able to talk to players and give them gifts so they designed this type of system.

System Improvements

  • Training Grounds
    • The Training Grounds data has been provided through Open API and many players have already used it to make interesting websites. They are also working to improve this significantly to be able to provide and collect more meaningful data.
    • The Training Grounds Operation Period has been added. Sometimes after a patch is released, there are bugs that need to be fixed and changes that need to be made that affect various skills. If you were to register a replay before these changes, it wouldn’t have much meaning afterwards. To fix this, they have decided to limit registering replays for the first two weeks after a patch to give enough time for these bugs to be fixed. In addition, currently the Training Grounds are open the entire patch period and they found that players were not really registering or recommending replays the whole time, so limiting the period also lets them focus on this in a smaller period of time.
    • Players with rank 1 recommended replays for each job will be given 100k Maple Points after the records are reset.
  • Story Skip
    • You can now skip story quest cutscenes in Grandis all the way up to Geardrak.
  • Items
    • You can now use multiple Sol Erda and Sol Erda Energy items at once.
    • Crafting stage 10 stat potions now requires Magic Powder (Purple) instead of Magic Powder (Black).
    • The types of items and buff effects that are maintained after disconnecting have been greatly increased.
  • UI
    • The Auto Enchant feature for bonus stats now lets you choose up to tier 7. Previously, you could only set up to tier 6 for target stats because they didn’t have enough time for it to let you choose stats based on the Flame you’re using. So you can think of this as being fixed to function normally.
    • The Extended UI Mode has been added to the Laboratory settings as an experiment. It is only available in windowed mode and lets you move certain UI elements outside of the MapleStory window to other spaces on your screen.
  • Monster Collection
    • You can now only use Monster Collection expeditions on level 200 or higher characters, and you can only acquire the rewards 10 times per day per Maple ID.
    • This is because recently there have been a lot of macroers that have been abusing the lower duration expeditions to collect resources.
  • Party Quests
    • You can now enter most party quests alone.

Cash Items

  • Boutique Gift
    • The Boutique Gift will return, with a slightly increased expected value of Boutique Tickets when used.
    • You can trade the Boutique Tickets for various items, including temp stat titles, cosmetics, and two Sol Hecate Skin Vouchers.

Offline Event

  • April 29 Lotte World All Day Rental
    • They have rented out Lotte World all day to celebrate MapleStory’s birthday and the opening of Maple Island.
    • Jin won’t be able to be there but he will be holding a special event, the details will be revealed later.
    • You can buy tickets online. There will be two rounds, and the 1st round (5,000 tickets) is only available for players level 280 or higher. The 2nd round (5,000 tickets) is available for players level 260 or higher. You can buy up to 2 tickets per person.
    • There will also be a special invitation event for additional tickets, similar to what they did for the last showcase. Players who meet certain conditions will have a higher chance to win. It includes:
      • Logging in diligently for the past year
      • Having 1,500+ cosmetic items
      • Defeating Extreme Kalos at least 1 time
      • Level 295 or higher
      • 10k+ Union levels
      • 3 or more Union Champions at S rank or higher
      • Completed multiple story related achievements
      • Cleared the ‘800 Monster Collection’ Union Artifact mission
      • Characters that were created between April 29, 2003 ~ December 31, 2003

Results of Full Investigation of Paid Items and Probability

  • Since the end of January of this year, Nexon has been conducting an investigation into paid items and probabilities at the company-wide level. Since MapleStory has already disappointed their players multiple times with related issues, they have checked everything thoroughly.
  • For over two months, they reviewed bugs that could occur at the code and logic level. Since a lot of things are already visible through the Open API, they focused on potential issues at the logic level. They confirmed that several problems still remained.
  • There are three general areas to talk about.

Item Drop Rate

  • The two main key points related to item drop rate are:
    • All items in MapleStory that have an item drop rate of about 29.5% or less have actually been set with a drop rate about 16.4% higher than that. For example, an item which was supposed to have 1% drop rate actually had about 1.16% drop rate. This has occurred since MapleStory first began service in 2003 and the concept of item drop rates were added, for over 20 years.
      • Naturally, since almost all of the meaningful items in MapleStory have a lower drop rate than 29.5%, you can think of this issue as every item has been dropping 16.4% more than intended.
      • They reviewed this logic multiple times as it was hard to believe, and it was true. Since the game also has stats that increase item drop rate, they thought it was natural that items would drop more frequently and were unaware of this issue for 20+ years.
    • After looking at the above issue, they looked more closely into item drop rate stats. There was a different but functionally similar issue here as well. Item drop rate stats were being applied at a higher value.
      • For example, if there was an item with a 5% drop rate, it would be increased based on your item drop rate stat. If you had 0~16% drop rate, it would be increased by about 16.4%. If you had 17% drop rate, it would be increased by about 26.4%. If you had 18~39% drop rate, it would be increased by about 39.7%.
      • As you can see, there was no diffence between having 0% and 16% drop rate, it would always apply the 16.4% drop rate increase (higher than intended, in every range).
    • This was caused by an issue called modulo bias. It can’t be explained just by disclosing internal source code or data structures because if you just look at the code, it doesn’t look like there’s an error, which is why they never caught it. Changseop spent some time explaining it in detail, but maybe you can just google ‘modulo ‘bias’ 🙂
      • Basically, imagine you’re trying to divide 4.29b balls into 1b boxes. Every box will have 4 balls, but that’s not all, the extra 290m balls are distributed starting from the 1st box to the 290 millionth box, so those have 5 balls instead.
      • If an item is supposed to have a 1% drop rate, you would think that picking one of the balls that are in 10m of the 10b boxes (10m/10b = 1%). However, in reality, the first 290m boxes have 5 balls instead of 4, increasing that rate, since we started with 4.29b balls. So the real drop rate becomes 50m/4.29b = ~1.164%, which is ~16.4% higher than intended.
      • In addition, the way that drop rate increasing effects work in MapleStory are instead of increasing the number of winning boxes, it instead decreases the number of boxes. For example, if an item is supposed to have 1% drop rate, you would win from picking a ball in the first 1m/1b boxes. If you have 10% item drop rate increase, it would be changed to 1b/1.1 = ~909m. You would win from picking a ball in the first 1m/909m boxes. But again, the first 290m boxes have an extra ball, so it’s more likely than intended.
    • In conclusion, almost all items in MapleStory currently have a higher drop rate than intended. In addition, item drop rate increasing effects are applied at up to 23.4% higher than the displayed amount.
    • This is not an intentionally created situation, it was just a logic-based problem that occurred due to the random functions used when coding the game 20+ years ago.
    • It’s obviously not right to just say they will just fix it right away. The game has been maintained in this way for over 20 years and fixing it will technically lower drop rates. Therefore, they will introduce a 24% base item drop rate stat (because 23.4% was the maximum additional item drop rate being applied). This extra item drop rate will not be included in any other limits and it is a unique pure item drop rate stat that is not affected by any other increases.
  • There was also a Premium PC Room drop rate error. Usually, the drop rate of the person that dealt the most damage to the reward monster would be applied. And your own personal drop rate is applied to instanced drops. However, for the additional 10% drop rate in PC Rooms, it was being applied when the character was the one that dealt the last hit to the monster, and it also applied to instanced drops for other players in the party (even if they weren’t in a PC Room).
    • This has been happening since the PC Room benefits were updated in November 2016.
    • This issue is difficult to use intentionally and it is obviously a bug so it will be fixed to function normally.
  • On the MapleStory homepage, there is a guide for the ‘item drop rate increase’ stat. It says that some items only apply a certain ratio of item drop rate but it doesn’t state specifically which items or how much it applies. Now that they have looked into this issue, resolved it, and added the base 24% item drop, they would like to inform players about this more specifically.
Item NameApplied Ratio of Drop Rate
Core Gemstone50%
Sol Erda Energy50%
Faint Sol Erda Energy50%
Sol Erda Fragment50%
Authentic Symbol Voucher50%

Arcane Symbol Voucher (Untradeable)10%
All Event/Quest Items10%
Boss Drop Rewards
(except for the items that state drop rate is not applied on the homepage)
(except certain quest items)
100%
  • The intention of having this lowered drop rate application on certain items is to prevent excessive disparity in character and skill growth between players based on drop rate
  • This is also to lower the influence of workshops and macroers, who can hunt without any limits.

Potential

  • Certain potential stats were being activated at a higher rate than displayed. (Note: this is related to the actual lines’ activation rates, not the chance of rolling the line when cubing)
    • A certain chance to ignore damage when hit.
    • A certain chance to ignore a certain % of damage when hit.
    • A certain chance to apply a status effect when attacking.
    • A certain chance to emote (rage, happy, love, cry).
  • Certain potential stats were being activated at a lower rate than displayed. (Note: this is related to the actual lines’ activation rates, not the chance of rolling the line when cubing)
    • A certain chance to reflect a certain % of damage when hit.
  • Errors with the ‘certain chance to recover HP/MP’ stat have been fixed. (Note: this is related to the actual lines’ activation rates, not the chance of rolling the line when cubing)
    • These stats were activating more frequently than displayed.
    • There was also an error where if you had multiple of this line, you might receive the effect twice.
    • They will fix it so it checks only once with the proper rates and then you will recover the total amount at once.
  • An error with the ‘certain chance to become invincible’ stat has been fixed. (Note: this is related to the actual lines’ activation rates, not the chance of rolling the line when cubing)
    • If you had multiple of this line, it would only check the last line.
  • An error where if you reset an item’s potential, the same exact potential lines could appear.
    • The homepage states that if you roll the exact same lines on a potential that you already had, it will automatically be reset to prevent rolling the same thing.
    • However, after checking, they did not implement exception handing for cases where the game code/ID are different but the actual stat is the same. There were cases where the stat IDs were different but the effects were the same.
    • This mostly occurred in double prime rolls on equipment (for example, rolling legendary additional potential on level 1~20 equipment had 2 critical damage options, but both were 1%.)
    • Until now, if a player asked support about this issue, they would be told that it was an error and they would be refunded the material they used to reset potential. However, now the issue is completely fixed and will not occur anymore.
    • They checked the requests from April 2, 2024 to now and it happened 167 times for potential and 311 times for additional potential. Those players have already been compensated and for players who did not inquire about it, they will check the records from the last two years and refund them as necessary.

Critical Rate

  • Critical rate was being applied slightly higher than displayed at all ranges, by up to 0.117% more.
  • Even if your critical rate displayed 100%, it was being activated at 99.99999%.
  • Both of these issues will be fixed so that critical rate functions as intended.

April Now Apology Rewards

  • He regrets that even though the service has already gone through various incidents, there is still much to be desired in terms of stability.
  • He reiterated that whenever they add or update paid products or probability-related content, they will put even more attention on consistency.
  • While he would like to say that these kinds of issues will never happen again, that may be a lie and he can’t guarantee that bugs like this may not happen again. However, if they discover or become aware of issues like this, they will report it in the same manner and correct them.
  • Players’ trust is the driving force of the game service and they will continue to do their best to keep it.
  • He didn’t want to give ‘compensation’ as it wasn’t an intended issue, but instead, as an apology for discovering and fixing this service instability so late, they prepared some apology rewards.
    • 10 4x Experience Coupons (30 Minutes)
    • 3000 Advanced EXP Vouchers
    • 200 Sol Erda Fragments
    • 1 Eternal Golden Spring
    • Selective Mannequin/Slot Expansion Voucher
    • Custom Mix Coupon Voucher
    • Transcendent Growth Potion (200~269)

KMST ver. 1.2.200

As mentioned previously, I won’t be making KMST posts anymore. It’s easier to just work on them over the next week and release a single post all at once when its added to the official server.

If you want to check out the patch notes yourself, you can see them here:

I always appreciate your posts. They help us plan everything from what characters to make, how to allocate resources, and plan out outfits in advance. This one was very technical and was very clear.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
