kMSt ver. 1.2.458 – Demon Avenger, Boss, and Item Changes~

Demon Slayer and Avenger

One more Tespia patch has been released before tomorrow’s update for MapleStory Unlimited! This one brings final changes to the new items, bosses, as well as some changes to Demon Avenger, which will be coming later this month. Read on for more information~

Flame of Reincarnation (level 150)

There were some changes to the Flame of Reincarnation item. First off, they now drop from certain bosses~

Secondly, as you know, when you use a Flame on an item, it gives it 5 scissor counts. Well, now if you use it on an untradeable item, that item will also gain these scissor counts! But what type of scissor would you use on those?

Silver Karma Scissors

The new Silver Karma Scissors, which are not a Cash item but are available in game! Currently they’re in the Winter Limited coin shop, I guess they’ll be like an event item.

Strange Cube

Strange Cubes are now tradeable~ Slightly related, the chance of getting a rank above Rare on equipment found from monsters has been increased! I wonder how much this change actually is, haha.

Unlimited Medal

Equipment items’ tooltips have been reorganized! You will now be able to see how much an item will affect your range if you were to equip it.

The ‘ignore monster’s defense’ stat has been reorganized, the way that it stacks has also been changed. It doesn’t give any specifics, I don’t know what this actually means…

Maple Mentoring System

The new Maple Mentoring system has been added! You can pair up with someone else to be a mentor and mentee. If you two hunt in the same map, you’ll receive an extra 20% experience and 30 attack and magic attack. You can also complete different missions to obtain reward boxes.

Bosses

There were (even more) boss changes as well. First off, for high level bosses, drops will now be distributed equally, and each person can only pick up the drops assigned to them. Second, equipment dropped from bosses will have higher Additional Options than regular equipment.

Also, in Zakum and Cygnus, you cannot kick anyone from your party once you enter, and if someone leaves the party inside, they will automatically be kicked out of the room.

Arkairum

Arkairum

  • Arkairum has received the Death Count system, once all deaths have been used up, the fight will automatically end and you will be removed from the map

Cygnus

  • Time when summoning monsters has been changed
  • Some attacks were changed, new attacks have been added
  • Cygnus’ behaviour and skill usage has been changed

Demon Character Creation

Now lets look at the Demon Avenger skill changes. For all Exceed skills, the increased HP usage for each stage has been increased (e.g. before this patch after using Moonlight Slash 5 times you would consume 5% HP each time but now you will consume 7% HP).

Also, the amount of HP you gain when putting AP into HP has been changed.

  • Double Slash Exceed – Double Slash: damage has been decreased from 200% to 100%, number of hits has been increased from 2 to 4, name has been changed from Double Cross
  • Release Overload Release Overload: HP boost has been decreased from 30% to 20%
  • Demon Strike Exceed – Demon Strike: damage has been decreased from 270% to 140%, number of hits has been increased from 2 to 4
  • Moonlight Slash Exceed – Moonlight Slash: damage has been decreased from 450% to 300%, number of hits has been increased from 2 to 3
  • Diabolic Recovery Diabolic Recovery: duration has been decreased from 300 seconds to 180 seconds
  • Inhale Vitality Inhale Vitality: damage has been decreased from 400% to 300%
  • Ease Exceed Pain Ease Exceed Pain: reduction to Overload’s Absorb Life reduction has been been decreased from 5% to 2%, damage boost to Exceed skills has been decreased from 30% to 20%
  • Execution Exceed – Execution: damage has been decreased from 800% to 400%, number of hits has been increased from 3 to 6, HP consumed has been increased from 6% to 9%
  • Enhanced Exceed Enhanced Exceed: extra attack now hits up to 6 monsters
  • Bloody Imprison Bloody Imprison: number of monsters hit has been decreased from 15 to 14
  • Armor Break Armor Break: damage has been decreased from 600% to 300%, number of hits has been increased from 2 to 4, duration of armor reduction has been decreased from 30 seconds to 20 seconds, HP consumed has been increased from 600 HP to 1000 HP
  • Shield Chasing Shield Chasing: HP consumed has been increased from 500 HP to 1000 HP
  • Exceed - Reduce Overload Exceed – Reduce Overload: Overload rate reduction has been increased from 2 to 4
  • Forbidden Contract Forbidden Contract: cooldown of 90 seconds has been added
  • Thousand Sword Thousand Sword: number of hits has been decreased, cooldown has been decreased from 30 seconds to 10 seconds, HP consumed has been increased from 3000 HP to 5000 HP

You call this a nerf? All they did was change the HP usage and duration of skills. Plus, they did the same thing as usual with the attacks: damage/2 , hits x2…

      • Rawrsaur
        December 4, 2012 at 6:47 pm

By the way, Max, do you know the exact number of hits Thousand Sword has been reduced to? Just curious.

    • Bob
      December 4, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Not sure if you are trying to copy my name or what but… who cares XD

BTW: you cant count that as a nerf. All the HP usage has just changed OFC for certain reasons but the total % skills are still the same. In a way it should be counted more towards a Revamp than a nerf for those who hit caps.

shame on you all spending all of your time trying to get to first have you all been waiting here just to say “first” or “cheated to second”. The point of this blog is to receive KMS news and you are all using Max just to make a game from a blog of a game the creator and all of us care about. Now reflect on why are you doing this.

    • Rawrsaur
      December 4, 2012 at 6:48 pm

Reflect on why you had to rant about this o.o If it bugs you so much then don’t read the comments. It’s that easy.

      • Bob
        December 4, 2012 at 6:54 pm

No, I agree with him. What do you gain from something that useless. If you have nothing to say then stay shut. Just that simple.

You tell us to dont read it, then we’ll tell you dont type it if you have nothing good/useful to type.

    • Kekezo
      December 4, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Yeah, we read it, and left a random comment. The main point is to read the blog, and it won’t kill anyone. As far as I know Max doesn’t seem to care.

I was hoping there’d be some kind of damage formula change since all these bosses have received enormous HP buffs…any news on something like that Max, or do they just expect you to be funded in order to fight these guys?

    • Anonymous
      December 4, 2012 at 5:38 pm

I’m pretty sure up to this point the purpose is to bring back the value of bosses and obligate guilds and players to fight them in groups. There’s still 3 patches left after this one, only time will tell.

      • Matt
        December 4, 2012 at 5:49 pm

That WOULD make sense, based upon both the boss changes and the new mentor/mentee system, what with the 30 Att/MAtt and 20% exp bonus from hunting in the same map. New trend: boss duoing!!

I’m not sure… but I’m going to take a picture of my range before and after the patch and if it changes, they must have changed something about damage 😛

you wrote been twice in the ease exceed pain skill. – Great post, they didn’t really get nerfed they just went from a lot of damage and a few hits to less damage and more hits, they got nerf in the hp consumption of their skills and hp buffs.

It would be funny yet weird if Automata didn’t turned out to be a theif.
Same thing with Luminous. I hope Nexon doesn’t mess this class up.

    • Rawrsaur
      December 4, 2012 at 6:45 pm

I don’t get why you bring up Luminous, when he was already released..

      • Bob
        December 4, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I think he is trying to bring up the point about Luminious not being a Pirate.

OT: I doubt they would troll us all over like Luminious. If you saw the skills of Automata/Xenon, all of the skills are related to Avoidability. What other job could they make with high Avoidability other than thieves? Bowman might not be a bad choice but the thing is that they would most likely be ranged typed and not close ranged so it is like 80-95% guaranteed that Automata/Xenon is a thief.

    Praise be
Some nerfs like needing almost 10% hp to use that execution attack
Not too happy though, but it’s a start.
I think it’ll be nerfed more in like 5 months

    • Kaika
      December 4, 2012 at 7:42 pm

dude this wasnt a nerf lol

      • mithi9
        December 4, 2012 at 8:05 pm

it was somewhat, like his attacks seem to hit a liittle more than they did before, like damage has been decreased from 800% to 400%, number of hits has been increased from 3 to 6, HP consumed has been increased from 6% to 9%
800×3=2400% and 6×400=2400, so basically he hits the same %, but the hp requirement has been increased to nearly 10%
and for example when u have 60k HP, u use that, thats nearly 6k just there, so i guess it is somewhat of a nerf. but m not really good with all this so i dont know for sure

Do the silver karma scissors mean that any previously untradeable item can become tradeable?

    • omggais
      December 5, 2012 at 2:57 am

Yes, it means that any untradeable item that does not have the “Scissors of Karma” tag, will be tradeable so long as you use the Flame of Reincarnation on that item.

Ease Exceed Pain: reduction to Overload’s Absorb Life reduction has been been decreased from 5% to 2%, damage boost to Exceed skills has been decreased from 30% to 20% … Meaning that there’s damage nerf for exceed skills by 10%?

Avenger is pretty cool, but Demon Slayer is looking more and more practical considering the per minute HP cost of Avenger’s attacks seems completely suicidal. A couple full screen attacks here, a couple enemy attacks there, and Avenger has to be burning through HP pots faster than a cash whore burns through cubes.

There’s nothing wrong with having an HP warrior whose damage is dependent upon HP. In fact, that’s awesome. But making the character burn out his life to attack is a stupidity that makes Avenger unappealing. Compare the unpopular Drks, who also cast from HP and pale in comparison to their Hero brethren. Also, Angelic Burster, who doesn’t use HP but doesn’t kill herself just to attack. Contrast Demon Slayer, who, while also casting from HP to a lesser extent, still had his attacks’ DF requirements DEcreased and his survivability INcreased. And that’s in addition to having hyper skills that further decrease DF costs. Meanwhile, Avenger’s nerfs/buffs simply server to make him kill himself faster.

It’s fine if they want to nerf damage, because let’s face it, they’re already planning to destroy the class in 6 months. But to bump up casting costs isn’t so much a nerf as it is a kick in the balls to those who enjoyed the original Demon Slayer’s shift away from pot addiction.

If I ever start playing Maple again, it won’t be as an Avenger. And I don’t know why anyone would play this class for more than a few months. After the 6 month nerf, it’ll take them a year to get the class right. It won’t happen until the KMS Summer 2014 patch. You know, since DS (and CS!) came out in Summer of 2011, and didn’t get buffed back up to relevance until now, in Winter of 2012. Within the next year and a half, more, even better, classes will be released, and since Avenger seems mediocre and suicidal NOW, the coming nerfs will likely make him utter shit that can’t possible last past the next (post-Xenon) round of new character introductions. It just doesn’t seem like a sensible long term investment in items and equipment, not when the regular Demon Slayer is just as strong, just as flashy, just as awesome, and has already had the time to wipe the shitnerf off its face. In that regard, Avenger just seems like a new Demon Slayer for the sake of making a new Demon Slayer. I fail to see what practical purpose it has, or what niche it fills. At least the original Demon Slayer was the first “lightning bruiser” warrior.

I never thought I’d type this but this new class is shit. It’s not innovative. It’s not interesting. All it does it make HP the one stat to rule them all, and then offset the benefits by doing away with the MP bar, thus making the class burn up the extra HP it would’ve had if they’d just done away with casting costs or, if that’s too game breaking, just made Avenger use the same DF gauge as DS. I didn’t like Angelic Burster, Kaiser or Luminous either. But that was because their playstyle didn’t appeal to me. Avenger, on the other hand, just seems to be a poor design that’s too concerned with balance and casting costs to realize the suicidal drawbacks are a turn off.

Maybe Xenon will be more interesting. But I’ll probably have the same problem with Xenon that I did with Phantom. Having to change the effects/modes of a single skill is a pain in the ass. The tried and true method of separating mobbing and 1v1 skills is far more practical. Even more practical than that is having 1 skill (ala BaM) that does both. But having one skill that does both, only never at the same time, is arguably the worst, most annoying game mechanic since they decided to make Avenger burn through HP pots like an addict.

At the end of Unlimited, my fave classes will probably be DS, CS, BaM and WH. The resistance classes wound up really competitive, while the newest ones since “Legends” are becoming increasingly complex, convoluted and crippled by the overfocus on balancing out their abilities through game mechanics rather than just changing the numbers. And they STILL get nerfed anyway. It seems like the Bangers and Legends are turning out to be the sweet spot, between the bland and boring adventurers, and the annoying hoops that players have to jump through with classes like Kaiser (gimping players who don’t use the command key), Burster (recharging? fuck that) and Avenger (chugging pots like your life depends on it, BECAUSE IT DOES). Nexon should really go back to keeping it simple, or at least stop limiting skill usage based on fake difficulty.

    tl;dr Slayer rules Avenger drools
