A new patch has been released, this time bringing MapleStory’s first spin-off, Friends Story! They had released this in Tespia last week but I didn’t post about it, so read on for more information!

They even had a cute trailer made for it!

A new story beyond Maple World! The magician Elwynn has discovered an opening to another dimension in Henesys. After entering it, you find yourself in Seoul, and you see many familiar faces in the Shinsoo School for some reason.

There are two stages of Friends Story, the first are the story quests and the second is the Abandoned Building dungeon.

With 1 prologue and 5 episodes, experience a new type of story in Friends Story!

There is also a special dungeon available to you after completing all episodes of Friends Story, one that helps your equipment grow. Enter the Abandoned Building of the Shinsoo School and make your Shinsoo School Badge gain extra stats!

A new item that changes your overalls into special school uniforms is available to you. Completing story quests and dungeons in the Abandoned Building will allow you to collect Silver and Gold Needles. These can be taken to the tailor Mr. Headward to exchange for spiffy new outfits.

You will receive 1 Silver Needle after completing the prologue and get 2 more after finishing all the episodes. They can also be collected by completing the dungeon. Gold Needles drop randomly from bosses inside the dungeon.

The magician Elwynn has accidentally created a dimensional gap to another world. Maple Warriors! Enter the wardrobe and become a student at the Shinsoo School~

Here, the characters you already know are a bit different than you remember! Cygnus is the only daughter of the Shinsoo Group, the company that owns Shinsoo School. Nineheart is the school council president, Mikhail is the captain of the Kendo club, Eckhart is an outsider, Hawkeye is the captain of the Taekwando club, Oz manages the mystery novel club, and Irena is captain of the archery club.

Orca is an idol, Francis is a doll maniac (who is also in love with Orca), Magnus is the P.E. teacher, Hilla is the school nurse, the White Mage is the White Student Teacher, and Cassandra is a local fortuneteller.

Ms. Account has become Cassandra’s fan, Belderos is the captain of the soccer team, Ephenia is a student as well. Ericson is a school security guard, Arkarium teaches biology, Chief Stan is head of academic affairs, and Baroque is Orca’s manager. Helena (Athena) is a police officer and finally, Queen Areda is the chairwoman of the school.

Friends Story is open to all characters level 33-250. Experience will be granted from quests and the dungeon based on your level. It is accessible through Elwynn’s house in Henesys.

You can also access it from any town by choosing it in the Dimensional Mirror.

 

The Shinsoo School is the main setting of Friends Story. Experience a new type of map (3D-ish, like the Riena Strait boat) and have fun with the other students.

 

There is a prologue and 5 chapters available, but they are going to be opened on different days.

• Chapter 1: Cygnus and the Transfer Student’s Destiny (May 29)
• Chapter 2: Idol Orca and the Crazed Stalker (May 30)
• Chapter 3: School Nurse Hilla and P.E. Teacher Magnus (June 5)
• Chapter 4: Fortuneteller Girl Cassandra and her Urban Legends (June 6)
• Chapter 5: Unidentified Student Teacher and the Students’ Crisis (June 12)

All the quests for Friends Story use a smartphone as the quest icon. Clicking it will open your phone where you can accept a ‘call’ (quest) from other students and also see your contacts and gallery of pictures.

For completing all the story quests, you will receive one medal (2 all stats, 300 HP and MP, 1 attack and magic attack) and one chair out of 9. This will depend on the student that you choose as your best friend! I think you can just call them after completing all the quests and that will be enough haha.

All of them are so unbelievably cute ;_; I wish I could just get every single one… I think I’m going to choose the Orca one though!

After completing all the story quests, you can then access the Abandoned Building dungeon in the top left of the city. You can enter in a party of 1~3 people, up to 10 times per day.

You can only enter the dungeon if you are wearing your Shinsoo School Badge, which you can receive again if you have lost it by talking to the NPC Lily.

When you enter the dungeon, there will be 4 general stages and 1 boss stage. The order of the stages will be different every time.

While wearing your Shinsoo School Badge, completing the dungeon will give experience to your item, allowing it to level up and gain stats! The stat increase will be random, and it will gain attack/magic attack at level 5 and 9.

If you are not happy with your Badge’s stats, you can receive a new one by talking to Lily.

The bosses in the dungeon may drop Gold Needles for you to give to Mr. Headward. To use one of the Uniform Vouchers he sells, double click them and choose an overall in your inventory.

The overall’s appearance will be changed into that of the uniform you chose, very similar to how an Anvil works! Mr. Headward also sells an item that will allow you to return a uniform to its original appearance.

After completing the final stage of the dungeon, you’ll receive your prizes! You will get experience, experience for your Badge and Silver Needles. If you can defeat the bosses of each stage, you’ll receive bonus rewards.

Finally, completely unrelated to Friends Story, they have updated the functionality of the Guild Search feature, now allowing you to search for members of guilds instead of just guild masters.

Also, buffs now show their duration (in minutes) in the corner of their icons.

All 11th Anniversary events have been extended, it will now end on June 25 instead of May 28!

Today, we went to the annual Nexon Developer’s Conference, hosted by Nexon. This year, there was a total of 115 different sessions.

There we proudly hung an illustration of MapleStory 2! We wanted to show you all as well.

I think those are the Knight and Priest classes (except male this time!). And there seems to be a bunch of maps on the side… areas that will be available?

This picture from MapleStory 2 is titled Rivals – Allon and Frey.

There was one more new illustration at the NDC, this one was titled Vid-Bleim Family’s Fate. It’s Bella! Maybe she has a twin, one is good and one is evil?
