MapleStory 2 – Supporters’ Day!

Supporters' Day

Today was MapleStory 2 Supporters’ Day! They held a conference for people chosen as Supporters with a lot of new information about the game! There was also a lot of swanky stuff like finger foods and free merchandise haha. Anyways, I’ll be going over the information with a lot of pictures, and there’s a video of the conference itself if you want to watch that.

EDIT: A lot of high quality screenshots have been released so I have updated my post!

MapleStory 2

MapleStory 2 is a unique experience with its block world, dynamic action, and easy customization, along with several minigames such as creating your own house or dungeon.

MapleStory 2 World

MapleStory and MapleStory 2 are completely different games, you will not be able to move items or content between them. MapleStory 2 will take place in MapleStory’s past, before the Black Mage and his story.

Buildings Buildings (1) Buildings (2) Buildings (3) Trees (1) Trees Icons (1) Icons

They chose to use a ‘block’ environment because it made it simple to create colourful backgrounds, it was easy to standardize jump height and terrain, and they wanted to try something new. The first CBT is scheduled to be in the second half of 2014 but it will be open only to supporters.

Lith Harbor Lith Harbor (1)Kerning CityPerion (3)Perion (1)ElliniaEllinia (2)

Towns like Lith Harbor, Kerning City, Henesys, Perion, and Ellinia will appear in MapleStory 2! I think the 3D really improved on some towns, like in Kerning City you can now actually see the high rise buildings and construction.

Rocky Area Snowy AreaSnowy Mountain

There will of course be new areas to explore, in addition to existing towns!

Taxi

The taxi system will also return, giving you an easy way to move from town to town.

MapleStory 2 UI

Here is the new user interface! Your HP and MP will be displayed as a hexagon in the bottom centre, with your name and level below it. Around it are your hotkeys, and in the bottom right are the menu icons. I think it looks a little bit similar to MapleStory’s beta UI haha.

MapleStory 2 ClassesKnightKnight (1)Knight (2)Knight (3)RangerRanger (1)Ranger (2)Ranger (3)PriestPriest (1)Priest (2)Priest (3)AssassinAssassin (1)Assassin (2)Assassin (3)Thief (1)Thief (2)

In MapleStory 2, you start as a beginner and go straight into one of eight jobs. Although they are classified as 4 groups (warrior, magician, archer, rogue), you do not get a ‘general’ advancement to those specifications.

  • Knights are appointed to the Royal Guard at Tria Palace. Their instructors are Empress Ereb and the Chief Guards, they advance at Tria.
  • Berserkers are warriors recognized by the tribes of Perion. Their instructor is Heart of the Red Wolf and they advance at Perion.
  • Priests are ministers appointed to Tria Palace. Their instructors are Empress Ereb and the Archbishop, they advance at Tria.
  • Wizards learn magic with the help of the fairies at Ellinia. Their instructors are the Great Magician Asimov and the fairy Anos, they advance at Ellinia.
  • Rangers join the Green Hood vigilantes in Henesys (with a quest in Perion to tame an eagle). Their instructor is Oskhal at Henesys.
  • Heavy Gunners are mercenaries hired by scientists. Their instructors are scientists in Kerning City and they advance in the Talisker area.
  • Thieves are bandits in Kerning City alleyways. Their instructors are Jonathan Button and other alley bandits. They advance in Kerning City alleyways.
  • Assassins are weapons of the organization Dark Wind. Their instructors are other Dark Wind operatives and they advance in Kerning City.

Build ModeBuild MOdeEvent MapTrap Master MinigameBonus Map

There is a large focus on user generated content in this game. You can design your own costume, buy and sell land, live together in an apartment with other players, or build your own house and decorate it. You can even create your own dungeons and minigames to play with others!

There are many different parts of your character which you can customize. You can change your character’s hair length, what they are wearing. You can also change the colour of almost any item at will, to have a unique character.

There will be mannequins to put clothes on, which you can then use to wear an entire outfit automatically. Items can be produced manually, so you can even make things such as matching guild costumes.

Perion (2) Kerning City (1) Ellinia (1)

You will be able to climb walls now, in addition to ladders and ropes. Due to the 3D environment, you will be able to walk through other characters, to avoid clipping and blocking.

Using the Environment

There will be PvP in MapleStory 2. You can pick up and use objects in the map as weapons!

Trophies, Flying, Camera

There will be a large variety of content, including trophies, flying, and camera modes.

Hunting Hunting (1) Hunting (2) Hunting (3) Hunting (4) Hunting (5) Hunting (6) Hunting (7) Hunting (8)

Of course, there will still be hunting monsters! MapleStory 2’s fighting system will be more dynamic than MapleStory, so you can use a variety of skills while defeating monsters.

Boss Baphomet Baphomet (1) Baphomet Boss DevlinDevlinDevlin (1) Boss Urza Urza Urza (1)The Last BajarThe Last Bajar (1)The Last Bajar (2)Griffon

MapleStory 2 has boss monsters which appear while adventuring. Such battles require strategy and the need to move around while attacking. New bosses include Baphomet, Devlin, Urza, the Last Bajar, and Griffon.

Zakum Balrog

But don’t worry! MapleStory bosses will make an appearance as well, such as Zakum, Papulatus, and… Balrog?!

Riding Wolves Riding Sheep Riding Sheep (1) Riding Balloons

It’s still MapleStory though, so if you want to just goof off, ride some sheep with your friends, hang out in the air with balloons, go ahead!

MS2_Poster_V1(devlin_fin)MS2_Poster_V1(ducky_fin)MS2_Poster_V1(mushroom_fin)MS2_Poster_V1(ribbonpig_fin)Print
They also showed off these cute posters, with monsters from the game~

Here are the videos of the conference, thanks to Spadow for uploading them! This one goes over the different classes in MapleStory 2. You can even see in-game footage of some classes as well as PvP near the end.

This video shows MapleStory 2’s immense customization! You can change almost anything about your character, take pictures and place them in-game, and more! This one also shows the new building system, and mannequins.

This one shows off a lot of the bosses I mentioned, and gameplay of players fighting them.

The final video talks about MapleStory 2’s world. It shows a lot of the towns in-game as well as NPCs and monsters!

      Won’t last long?
      I beg to differ.
the varied customization alone is enough to draw in people.

OMFG NO! I hate that crap.. anytime a game floods itself with new characters it turns to crap.. how about updating the classes you already have, focusing on new content and play styles, then fixing bugs and glitches as they come along? Everyone wants the same old crap that ruins every game in every game.. full on customization.. what more do people want? People would play a game with 1 class if you let them customize some skills, weapons, stats, and looks.. more characters equal more imbalance and more bugs and glitches.. it’s just easier to do things right than it is to screw things up yet they always work so hard to screw things up..

          • Anonymous
            July 1, 2014 at 10:17 pm

Likey you have to realize people do have opinions and some people like new classes as it adds reason to come and play the game and others are indifferent about it. Also future updates can also hold glitches and bugs, it’s an inevitable thing that’s bound to happen. Besides there will most likely be a new class in the future for this game no matter what you say or feel, but these are not the same developers who are working on the current maplestory. We don’t know how they will handle, for all we know they can do a good job or worse, we’ll just have to see.

yea no shit bro. They killed maple right when they made it p2w. They are just trying to squeeze more money out of it before it dies.

      • crapbrawler
        July 6, 2014 at 12:15 am

i don’t know why, but that sounded insulting. (Squeeze more money out of it before it dies) this is not related to the original Maplestory. sure, pay money to get fashionista equips and hairs, that is not squeezing money out of a game. you want to see “squeezing money”? exp coupons, meso pouches, miracle cubes, and some random item that can get super-awesome-mega-abyssal-equipment. all that shit ruined the game.

Wow, this looks a LOT better than I initially thought! Looks like a ton of fun! Really looking forward to when it comes over to America! 🙂
Though, I’m kind of getting the feeling that it’ll either end up overshadowing Maple Story, flopping, or that its seemingly high CPU usage will discourage conventional players…

    • Me Likey Likey
      July 1, 2014 at 6:50 pm

CPU usage.. you can’t be serious.. not to mention most of these people play Maple Story.. Maple Story is a freaking 2D game but requires a machine that can run WoW due to all of the data leaks, duplicate data, data that is no longer in the playable game but still exists in the files, and the random files and programs that run concurrently as you play the game (Maple Story is practically a virus).. My bet is if you can play Maple Story you can play Maple Story 2 with ease.. probably even with a netbook..

    June 28, 2014 at 5:38 pm

Definitely gonna get lost in this game….

  8. June 28, 2014 at 5:39 pm

(continuing my response) Yeah, summer has been great! 🙂 I I’m learning so much Chinese! Srsly, people spend years just to get through the two books I am studying, and I will have gotten through them in just two months. (Yeah, they are only 700 pages combined, but it is like Master’s level b/c of how hard it is.) It’s really amazing.

PS, there will be a Summer update for Korea MS but it won’t be teased until mid July (3 weeks), and then it probably won’t go live until the beginning of August. I think they are really looking to overhaul the game. If you read what MS2 is like below, you can see how bad it makes Maplestory look in comparison. I hope people don’t end up quitting the original MS though.. I still want it to be around when I have kids. >_<

      Or…. OOOOOORRR….They are prepping for 5th job 😀

    • Me Likey Likey
      July 1, 2014 at 7:02 pm

They should go ahead and make Maple Story classic as well.. I think they could really corner the market with Maple Story, Maple Story 2, and Maple Story classic. Maple Story classic should just be Maple Story before 4th job without Cygnus Knights, Pirates, Heroes, and randoms. Then they should try to throw Maple Story 2 onto the major consoles as well as PC (free to download), leave Maple Story as a PC game, and then allow Maple Story classic to be played on a smartphone or PC since it was only like 200 MB back then instead of the 8 to 9 GB it is now. In addition, create a Maple Story messenger that allows you to keep in touch with your friends through your phone without giving up your phone number or personal information. The messenger should have monster omok, monster match, monsteropoly, yut, and the maple farm. I wish they would really consider an idea like that. I think they could make tons more than they already do.

Honestly why is it that everytime there is a blocky type or survival type of style people always think of minecraft :/ and also didn’t Nexon say MS2 was also in development for a long time? They could have come up with the blocky type style before it was all about minecraft.

looks awesome i cant wait to play, cant believe people are downing it! Seems like it might be a more questing based game though? Not seeing much of how grinding will be implemented into the game. Who knows! cant get enough probably going to be a heavy gunner because they look bad A!

    • catbear
      June 29, 2014 at 2:53 am

Even if it were a grinding game though, that would be stupid to promote it during such an event. It would dissuade players from playing. Grinding is less a game thing and more of a community driven thing to find more efficient ways to train.

That is possibly the stupidest arguement ever. Minecraft went big because it was simplistic and all about creativity. Maplestory 2 isn’t supposed to be a mine and building game, it’s focus is clearly on fighting and leveling.

The only similarity with minecraft maplestory 2 has is that the game’s terrain is made of cubes. There is barely any similarity with the gameplay.

It more like cubeworld and trove. Minecraft isn’t even an mmorpg. it’s a sandbox game. This is a combination. Haters just hate bc they hate change. I bet most these people who hate though will give the game a try. then if they like it they will say how awesome it was.

        • Seriously?
          July 2, 2014 at 11:06 pm

Oh, okay. So, there are cubes for structures. That immediately means that “it has a surprising number of similarities with minecraft.” You have to admit, that is just full of bull. Also, why are you defending him when his arguments are invalid. I play Minecraft on the side, and the characters look nothing alike and there isn’t even a “Balrog” in Minecraft. Also, any game can be 3D. Although I do hate CoD, that guy is basically saying that CoD copid Minecraft. Really, this Memoies guy has really invalid arguments.

I think initially this game will be great because everyone will be noob, just like the first maplestory when it first came out, everyone was at the same level of playing = noob.

A year or two later that’s when the elites will start to rule then a big bang will come and that will be the end and then it will be pay to win.

    • trips486
      July 1, 2014 at 7:54 pm

Dude quit being dumb and a just jumping on the “it’s minecraft” bandwagon. This game is hardly like minecraft. Have you even played minecraft? it’s not an mmorpg for one. it has online capabilities but not an mmorpg. It was meant for single player first then incorporated multiplayer. Next, minecraft revolves around only crafting and some exploring. It doesn’t have any real mmorpg elements in it unless you get mods. it’s a sandbox game. MapleStory 2 just has the graphics that are similar to minecraft. That’s it. Lastly, they’re plenty of games that are “minecraft clones” like you have said. Cube world and Trove to name a few. Theirs a reason why MS2 chose this type of style. It makes the ability for customization a lot easier for the player. As well as makes it more colorful. Please stop being dumb and just jumping on the minecraft bandwagon unless you actually played minecraft and know what you are talking about.

u know what thou? the areas looks like it was lazy. the character drawings and some of the upper photos looks great. but the ingame i saw no just no. turn it into how maplestory started out. a side scrolling 2D or whatever game and start out that way first then work urself up and since maplestory 2 is before the blackmage and what happened there hey sounds great but there needs to be a great opening line and storyline quests and just fun and adventure. leave the skills and AP settings how maplestory started out so its easyer for ppl to know how to work it. but making it 3D and looking complicated doesnt look it will work out. and i know these people in Korea can do better i know they can their stuff on KMS is great so far. but yeah maybe it will help as a starting piont for maplestory 2.

There is literally no point in making maplestory 2 a 2D sidescroller, no point whatsoever.

Do you not remember how the AP distribution and skills were back when Maplestory came out? They were terrible for noobs to just walk into and pick up. Unless you already knew what stats were required for the class you were choosing, then you didn’t really know what to do. Skills weren’t so bad, but they never told you what you would need as a prerequisite for another skill later on, so that was a bitch if you thought ” Well I don’t need this worthless skill!” Next job kicks in, “Well… Shit… Guess I did…”

As for your whole “It should be 2D…” That is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard. If they were going to do that, there would be no reason to make a new game… None at all.

I seriously doubt it will be a fail, hell even somehow it became suddenly shitty it would still release. we all know ragnarok 2 did.
