MapleStory 2 – Patch Notes Special Issue!

Patch Notes

No, you’re not reading it wrong. Although there is no active testing period for MapleStory 2, the developers have decided they will release patch notes for their in-house development!

WHY?

  1. Data and suggestions from CBT were great additions and they want you to help with development.
  2. A few users have asked questions related to the development team’s work.
  3. In addition, many other users want to know how development is going.
  4. We’re making MapleStory 2 together!

AND

They hope everyone will enjoy reading about new content updates with these patch notes and give their opinions to improve it.

BUT

Although the patch notes are public, many things may change in development so not everything will be accurate when the game is released.

Expanded Maple World

Maple World has expanded! Many new maps have been added since CBT, explore and find them all!

  • A new area has been discovered northwest of Kerning City.
  • Deeper caves have been discovered inside the Ant Tunnel, northeast of Henesys.
  • Previously unseen highest peaks have been discovered north of Perion.
  • Mysterious castle ruins have been discovered in the forest southwest of Ellinia.

Knight and Wizard

Users commented that the Knight class had paper-thin defenses and that the Wizard class did not have much variety in attacks.

Knight

  • In order to return to the job’s concept, many skills have been adjusted to improve SP recovery, survivability, and tanking ability.
  • A new skill called Iron Shield has been added, which stops you from being knocked back, reduces all damage taken from enemies, and recovers SP when hit while the skill key is held down.

Wizard

  • Fire, lightning, and ice skills have been adjusted so that each has their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Flame Burst can now be used continuously.
  • Buff skills such as Magic Armor and Concentrated Magic Circle have been improved.
  • A new skill called Ice Strike has been added, which shoots icicles down several times at a fixed point.

Quest Improvements

Users have commented that they would like to see the monsters mentioned in the quest, as well as a way to categorize quests by area, and to increase quest rewards.

  • You can now click NPC or monster names in the quest information window to be taken to their corresponding Maview page.
  • You can now see relevant quest information on the world map at a glance.
  • All quests have been classified as Epic Quests or World Quests.
    • Epic Quests are important story quests, and it is easier to keep up with the story this way.
    • World Quests are minor stories based on the episodes of each area.
  • Quest rewards have been improved, including equipment items, Onyx Crystals, and specific colour Crystal Fragments.

High Level Monsters

Why not take your time instead of rushing to high levels? After reviewing data from CBT, they saw many users were fighting monsters who were much higher level than them to level up quickly, but they want us to focus on other things.

  • When fighting monsters a certain level higher than them, it will become difficult for players to hit those monsters.
  • When fighting monsters a certain level higher than them, players will take more damage than regular monsters.
  • The stats of melee and ranged monsters as well as their skills have been optimized.

Boss Monsters

It’s easy to beat your enemies if you know more about them, so more information has been added for boss monsters.

  • The HP bar of enemies at the top-center of your screen will now show a monster’s rank (Elite or Boss) and their race.
  • The buffs and debuffs which appear near the HP bar will now show buffs on top of it and debuffs below it.
  • You can now see other users’ debuffs. However, no more than 15 debuffs will be shown.
  • If your targeted enemy is a player (e.g. in Shadow World), their job will be shown.

New Hair

Users have commented that they would like a larger variety of hair styles.

  • Rosetta at the Beauty Salon has new make-up available: Evil Eye, Beards, Magical Butterfly.
  • Rosetta at the Beauty Salon has new hair styles available:
    • Male: Balloon Pump, Wild Shaggy Cut, Chestnut Head
    • Female: Ferret Hair, Soft Mohican Hair, Sporty Ponytail

NPC Changes

Users have commented that many NPCs look alike and they should be differentiated.

  • Some NPCs have received new appearances.
    • Petite Mon Chou Chou Hotel’s Mademoisselle Lou
    • Alikar Prison’s Guard Zeke, Guard Jimmy, and Guard Karen
    • Alikar Prison’s Warden Velma

New Monsters

Who are the monsters in these silhouettes?!

  • New regular, Elite, and Boss monsters have appeared.
    • Boss: Chou Chou and Boo Boos, Mark 52 Beta
    • Elite: Trauros, Nine Cap Kappa, Monte de Carlo
    • Regular: Junior Boogie, Fire Dog, Junior Bulldog, Pickpuss, Bluepuss, Bony Flail, Bony Boomer, Bony Scam, Per, Kar, Lair

god DAMNIT. I am getting really REALLY sick of devs pulling this “HURR NO PROGRESSING AT YOUR OWN PACE!” shit. it’s like none of them are capable of paying attention to player feedback well enough to understand WHY some people want to level faster and some want to go it slow. for as many years as MMOs have existed, devs should be getting better about this, not worse… and yet every new game I see either locks you into areas dictated for your level or makes it so you’re punished for trying to do anything other than have everybody hold hands and walk at the same speed, lately. it’s bloody stupid.

they’d better hope they don’t go making progression as much of a nightmare as it was in early MS1 or they’re going to have a lot of revamping to do to save the development money spent on the project from being wasted.

Agreed. It’s closed fuckin beta. Of course they want to level up quickly so that they can experience existing high level content. None of the bosses got defeated in CBT after all.
