Developers’ Notes – Aran and Evan’s Reorganization Directions
In the most recent patch, Aran and Evan character creation was restricted with a message saying that they would be coming soon, on November 12! Today, a new Developers’ Notes was released on the MapleStory homepage, talking about what directions they will be going in for Aran and Evan’s reorganizations.
Hello, Maple users. It’s Bibi.
On the October 15 update, we restricted Aran and Evan’s character creation and promised to re-launch them on November 12. Many of you are awaiting the test server update and we would like to describe the direction we will be heading with their reorganizations.
Aran’s special characteristic is attacking enemies to stack up their Combo and then entering commands to use powerful skills. With Aran’s reorganization, we would like to continue with this and improve their current system while reducing inconsistencies.
Aran’s major characteristic is the Combo system, so this reorganization enhance it as follows:
- MP and Combo Skill Resource Integration
Aran’s 2 resources: MP and Combo will be combined into one. The idea of building up your Combo and then consuming part of it to use other skills will no longer require both MP and Combo. In addition, new systems will be added to take advantage of Combos.
- Combo Count Adjustments and Enhanced Mode
The maximum Combo has been reduced but now, when you reach it, you will gain access to different types of skills. When you hit the maximum Combo count, you will automatically enter Enhanced Mode where your attacks are faster, stronger, and have longer ranges. The Enhanced Mode duration is short but it gives many benefits and creates an explosive, dynamic play pattern.
- Swing Skill Changes
Along with the Combo system, Aran’s Swing skills will also receive changes. Double Swing gradually linking to Triple Swing, Full Swing, and Over Swing has been deleted. Now, from 1st job, you will be able to completely master Swing attacks. With this increased damage and new benefits, we will be looking closely at this while in the test server.
(NOTE: I’m not too sure about this translation!)
Evan’s special characteristic is that he can grow together with the last remaining Onyx Dragon, Mir. To emphasise this, we will be focusing on allowing Evan and Mir to work as partners.
We will be reducing the amount of combat skills that Mir has and give some to Evan. As partners, they can combine their power with the new Fusion Skill system which will allow them to become stronger when working together.
- Evan and Mir’s Skill Separation
Evan and Mir will now have their own skills. Evan uses elemental magic attacking skills while Mir will use channeling skills that attack for a certain period of time. When Evan and Mir’s skills combine, a Fusion Skill will be activated. When Evan uses certain skills together with Mir’s, Mir’s skill will automatically change into one of maximum 2 Fusion Skills automatically.
- Free Movement and Skill Usage
Evan and Mir’s skills will be separated, allowing each one to move around freely without being affected by the other’s actions. Controlling two characters at once will make gameplay more dynamic and depending on the battle, you can use Fusion Skills to take advantage of the partnership, which will a large part of Evan’s play pattern.
Aran’s reorganization will have a large variety of attacks and dynamic operations, focusing on the Combo system and its benefits. Some attacks’ commands and effects will be changed and new attacks will be added.
Evan’s reorganization will change up his traditional gameplay a lot and make it a bit more difficult. Before this reorganization, Evan had many buffs and debuffs which will be changed a bit so it is easier to focus on attacking. With strong and brilliant play, you’ll be able to pincer enemies between you and Mir.
We hope that all Arans and Evans will enjoy this update and make it more fun to play. Please look forward to it.
