KMST ver. 1.2.169 – Maple Now (24.02.15) & High Mountain

February 15, 2024 Leave a comment Go to comments

The newest KMST patch was released yesterday along with a Maple Now stream. The main topic was the new Epic Dungeon: High Mountain, as well as the new Maple Coin Exchange system. At the end of the stream, Changseop also gave a high level set of goals that they want to accomplish for the year.

Maple Now (24.02.15)

Like usual, the Maple Now stream was Director Changseop talking mostly about the new content added in this patch and some of their reasoning as to why they implemented it.

At the beginning, he kinda yapped for a bit about how the game has been going through many issues and incidents that have affected their development process, but in the end, their goal is to make a fun game for players.

Epic Dungeon: High Mountain

The main content in this patch is the Epic Dungeon: High Mountain. It is content prepared to start a gradual change to MapleStory’s play patterns, allowing you to progress even if you can only play for short periods of time weekly. The base rewards include experience (around ~12% for level 260, ~6% for level 270, ~1% for level 280), Sol Erda, Sol Erda Fragments (Reboot only), and Maple Gold Coins. This is a new system related to mesos.

The Epic Dungeon has a new Bonus Reward system, that lets you pay Maple Points to receive more rewards (7.5k Maple Points to triple the rewards, 15k Maple Points to quintuple the rewards). The goal of this was to provide an option to accelerate progress definitively and reliably, without relying on RNG.

As they talked about before, one of the intentions when changing potential to be able to be reset through mesos was to make playing the game more valuable. However, this is still not working fully as intended as there are many more additional factors that need to be changed. One of these factors is increasing the supply of mesos while also increasing demand for Maple Points, which this Bonus Reward system is designed to do.

Since High Mountain is content that generates mesos, it is limited to once per Nexon ID.

High Mountain has a total of 10 stages. Some include defeating monsters and some are boss fights. In addition, as you defeat monsters, you can fill up a gauge that lets you transform into Mitra, the Sun God, and use his powerful one-shot skills to defeat more enemies faster. The stages are designed in a way that lets you cycle through the map and use specific skills at certain times like a minigame to clear them faster. The total clear time will depend on the character’s strength. A character who has just reached level 260 will probably take a long time but as you get stronger, it will take less and less. He mentioned that the level 285 character he was playing on could probably finish it all in 10 minutes.

In terms of story, they tried to include a lot of interesting elements to High Mountain. Better directing, animations, and fancy effects, as well as allowing you to become Mitra as role-playing content. It’s a story that’s more focused on a smaller number of characters than other stories in the game, this time about Mitra and Seren.

Maple Coin Exchange

The Maple Coin Exchange is a new system where you can exchange Maple Coins (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Diamond) for mesos. The coin exchange prices are updated every day at 10:00 AM. It will change in real time based on the supply of mesos and Maple Points in-game. This will allow the value of mesos to be maintained at a certain amount regardless of various fluctuations. You can get these Maple Coins from the Mileage Shop, as rewards from the Epic Dungeon, and from the Daily Gift.

When you exchange a Maple Coin for mesos, you must pay a small Maple Point fee (3/30/300/3000 MP for each type of coin). This is also the same reasoning as the Epic Dungeon Bonus Rewards, to increase the consumption of Maple Points.

Future Direction

In the last Vision Talk, he told everyone what content would be coming in which month for the second half of the year. It was something he tried out and had its own pros/cons, but this time, he won’t be as specific. It’s hard to give more details on things that are still being decided, and also, without being able to explain each content in detail, it can lead to misunderstandings that affect the feelings about each update. Thus he will save this for the next showcase, where they can include more specifics.

There are three main points to MapleStory’s future direction, starting from now until this winter.

  1. Adding content and rewards that can be enjoyed by stronger characters.
    • Last year, they focused on expanding character growth paths upwards rather quickly, starting with the 6th job advancement. Many elements that made characters stronger were added such as new skills, stats, and Symbols.
    • This year, they plan to focus on adding and expanding content that players can enjoy and gauge their progress. The Epic Dungeon is a part of this effort. They are preparing bosses, corresponding rewards, and new types of content. They want to add content that as many players as possible can enjoy and feel stronger, not only the top-tier players.
  2. Work related to game quality maintenance.
    • This is not something new like the first point, but something that has been considered an important goal that they have been working on since last year. It includes remasters, story improvements, and growth path improvements.
    • Notable examples include the UI reorganization, the addition of Combat Power, and API-related changes.
    • It’s more comprehensive than just an improvement or reorganization, but he said to think of it as “trying to break away from an old game”. He still thinks MapleStory is a bit old-fashioned and outdated, and they want to work on improving it for players.
  3. Response to economic changes.
    • This is still quite ambigious as the changes were made very quickly, but in some ways, this February update is the beginning of their full-fledged response. It’s hard to say what they will continue to do in the future but it is clear that MapleStory’s economy has already changed a lot.
    • They will continue to take necessary measures so that these changes can provide a more fun game to players.

Here’s a quick guide (no video yet because I don’t want to have to do the story on KMST and then again on KMS next week)!

As mentioned before, there are a total of 10 stages. It goes in a cycle of 2 normal stages (defeat all the monsters) then a miniboss stage, and repeat. The 10th stage is the final boss, Tynus. You must complete the stages in order, but you can leave and re-enter in-between so you don’t have to do it all at once.

Here’s a picture from Stage 1. At the top, you’ll see the timer and progress bar. You must defeat enough monsters to fill up the progress bar to progress to the next stage. At the bottom, you’ll see the Mitra UI. As you defeat monsters, you’ll collect Authority, which fills up the bar (up to 1000).

You can press the Tab button to transform back and forth into Mitra at any time and use his skills. However, each skill will consume a certain amount of Authority. Mitra’s attacks instantly execute all normal monsters that they hit.

You can remap these skills to shortcuts of your choice.

  • Double Jump: Jump once more while in the air to move a certain distance. You can use this skill with the up arrow key to jump upwards.
    • Level 1: Jump a certain distance.
  • Solar Flash: Rush as quick as a flash of light.
    • Level 1: Consumes 50 Authority. Rush in the inputted direction, damaging enemies in your path. Normal monsters will be instantly executed.
      Cooldown: 0.3 seconds.
  • Solar Blade: Materialize the energy of the scorching sun and fire it.
    • Level 1: Consumes 150 Authority. Fire a sword slash in the inputted direction, damaging enemies hit. Normal monsters will be instantly executed.
      Cooldown: 1 second.
  • Solar Flare: Explode the heat of the boiling sun to turn nearby enemies to ash.
    • Level 1: Consumes 200 Authority. Damage nearby enemies. Normal monsters will be instantly executed.
      Cooldown: 1 second.
  • Authority Liberation: Liberate the power of the mighty God of the Sun for a certain period of time. When Mitra’s other skills hit an enemy, the Sun’s Energy ignites and burns nearby enemies.
    • Level 1: Consumes 1000 Authority. For 20 seconds, Mitra’s other skills will not consume Authority, and when they hit an enemy, the Sun’s Energy will be unleashed to attack nearby enemies. You will not acquire Authority from monsters defeated during this skill. If you cancel the transformation, the duration will end.
      Cooldown: 60 seconds.

It’s important to take note of Mitra’s different attacks as at certain times, special gimmick monsters will spawn on the map (shown in blue on the minimap). They have much higher HP than the regular monsters and will appear in a certain formation/pattern. It becomes a sort of puzzle to get into the right position and use the right Mitra skill to instantly execute them all. As the stages go on, their placement and movement will become more advanced, requiring more precise skill usage.

Here’s Stage 3, where you have to fight one of the minibosses. You have a total of 10 death count but it seems like you can’t use potions. Honestly I couldn’t really figure it out and just whacked away until it died but I’m sure there’s some sort of mechanic I was missing lol.

In Stage 10, you fight the final boss Tynus. (BTW this is just the world select screen, it’s not actually the boss fight. I’m too lazy to finish all the stages in KMST just to take a screenshot).

After you clear Stage 10 (the boss fight against Tynus), you will receive your base rewards of experience (based on your level), 1 Sol Erda, and 2 Maple Gold Coins. In Reboot World, you will also receive 30 Sol Erda Fragments.

Then, in Regular Worlds only, you can choose to pay Maple Points to receive bonus rewards. You can pay 7,500 Maple Points to triple the rewards (3x experience, 3 Sol Erda, 6 Maple Gold Coins) or pay 15,000 Maple Popints to quintuple the rewards (5x experience, 5 Sol Erda, 10 Maple Gold Coins).

I think the major issues that was happening with maplestory was that Reboot kept thriving and they realized they made no moeny off of it. players hwo kept training and progressiong to the absalute maximum got completeld deroggatorized and got fried like the chicken ocean.

but its no worries though, reboot is finally coming to terms with the commeupence of the joniaoe and is finally meeting the downfall. changeseop will beat the bat like a chicken to make sure the game will continues to strive. thats why i love maplestory.

Lmao every single time these people claiming reboot is whining, meanwhile it’s literally 1 comment saying this is bad for reboot and 90% of comments are them calling reboot players babies. Gee wonder who’s side is wrong and blind to the fact everyone’s getting screwed not only reboot.

Also why can’t people play servers that offer them what they want? They’re not baby players because they don’t play on the same server as you. And odds are if you bought anything in the FM in regular servers, you funded allowing someone to continue to be a “baby player”. And you’re lying if you say all progression was actually earned in regular servers. Every time anyone bought stuff for NX and traded it for mesos to buy stuff only endgame players could earn, without being endgame players themselves, they played “baby mode”. And odds are whether you know it or not, if you ever bought anything from the FM you probably either did the same, or funded people to be able to continue doing so.

I’m a reg player. But seeing the vitriol of KMS folks, I honestly still don’t understand how or why Reboot is considered baby mode.

    To my understanding:

    1. You literally cannot trade. (Which means you basically start from scratch on each character. Except for mesos, certain exp items, and link skills)
    2. You still gotta grind for mesos to be able to do anything worthwhile if you don’t have enough. So it does take time actually playing to get it.
    3. You can’t buy mesos like in regular.

Like, there’s so many disadvantages in Reboot compared to Regular that it’s honestly inspiring that the servers are so popular. I’d rather just spend like $50-$100 buying mesos from the market, than have to spend hours grinding to be able to do anything. That would be so mind numbing…

So let me see if I understand this correctly…

    Nexon:

    >Commits crime

    >Steals hundreds of millions from players by manipulating cube rates throughout the years

    >FTC gets a whiff of it

    >FTC fines them for much less than what Nexon STOLE

    >Nexon, instead of releasing the rates, makes cubes an ingame purchase with mesos

    >KMS-tards mad. KMS-tard small pp energy too high.

    >Nexon appeases small PP KMS-tards by nuking Reboot.

    >Small PP KMS-tards rejoice, and jerk one another in a circle…a circle jerk if you will, with small tweezers.

    >Nexon has effectively gotten away with said crime.

    >Small PP KMS-tards keep jerking themselves as Reboot keeps getting nuked, ignoring the fact that Nexon has royally fucked them, and keep giving money to Nexon.
