It’s finally happened… MAPLESTORY 2 has been officially announced by Nexon! Along with a short teaser site, there was a FAQ released on the MapleStory website which I will be going over.
I’m excited! It’s been so long since we’ve heard anything about MapleStory 2, I wonder how different it’s going to be! What are your thoughts?
MapleStory 2 FAQ
Q1. What is the difference between ‘MapleStory’ and ‘MapleStory 2’?
- ‘MapleStory 2’ is a full 3D MMORPG with a quarter view. It is being developed as a distinct game.
Q2. Will ‘MapleStory’ and ‘MapleStory 2’ have the same worlds, characters, and monsters?
- ‘MapleStory 2’ takes place in a world from a previous time period. Some monsters and areas from ‘MapleStory’ might show up but ‘MapleStory 2’ is being developed to have different and interesting characteristics.
Q3. Will ‘MapleStory’ and ‘MapleStory 2’ have connected service between the two games?
- As said before, ‘MapleStory 2’ is a completely different game and will not connect services with ‘MapleStory’. However, users might be able to enjoy some of the same content or events in both games.
Q4. Do ‘MapleStory’ and ‘MapleStory 2’ have the same development team?
- They are different. ‘MapleStory’ is being worked on in the Maple headquarters while ‘MapleStory 2’ will be developed at another headquarters.
Q5. When is service scheduled for ‘MapleStory 2’?
- Next year (2014) will see the release of the first user testing.
Q6. When ‘MapleStory 2’ comes out, will ‘MapleStory’ end?
- No. ‘MapleStory’ and ‘MapleStory 2’ are different games and you will be able to have distinct experiences with both. Nexon plans to continue to support and grow both games.
Q7. Now that ‘MapleStory 2’ has been announced, where can I keep up to date about news?
- The ‘MapleStory 2’ teaser page which is now open to the public will have all the latest about the game’s development. (of course you guys can continue to come here for translated information~)

Yeah and we know everything about it because it was released like 30 hours ago. The level cap will be LV.100 and the final boss will be your face.
Previous Time Period eh…PRE BIG BANG FELLAS
When they say “previous time period” I’m pretty sure they’re referring to the Maple storyline. So I’m assuming that this game might take place in the time before the Heros and Black Mage. 😮
Hence, “pre-big bang”… The black mage story-line was pretty much introduced 6 months to a year before big bang itself. Before pirates and knights of the cygnus. If you want to know the previous story-line just watch the maplestory anime which people think have nothing to do with the story-line yet was the actual story-line before all these random changes. Ergoth the original baddie!

In my opinion, they should’ve just kept Maplestory simple and not add a bunch of stuff like this. I mean, it might be good, but these kinds of things just mess up…

They’ve made it entirely clear that the two games are separate. No shared accounts, very little shared content.
I did read the FAQ. I’m just saying that these “add-ons” will just mess up.

They’re two separate games that share a few similarities.
I think what OP meant was a game that carries the Maplestory name shouldn’t be so overly complicated like other MMORPG’s that take a bunch of effort just to play. Nexon should have called it something else, as ‘2’ implies a continuation of the 1st with “improved” gameplay.
Series in games don’t always mean a continuation, the series could have mixed stories. There are some that just jump around to show different parts of its story. And honestly this game is going to have “improved” gameplay, because it’s becoming 3D.

It’s a view similar to what a game like Elsword has.
From pure guesswork, I think quarterview is where the camera is 45º up from the ground.
Hello! Can someone please explain to us what Quarter View means? First Person is from the eyes, and Second is from the bird eye’s view, and third is like GTA, MS, etc, soi what’s Quarter View?
Going by leaked screenshots… I’m thinking isometric. Like Diablo or Ragnarok. Not quite birds eye, not quite third person.

They should’ve finished the Black Mage story line before releasing Maplestory 2 .___.
They’re still gonna be working on it, MapleStory is being worked on in another headquater, and MapleStory 2 in another. So they’re 2 different games. MapleStory will still be getting updates just as regularly.
the point of a rpg is too progress a seemingly never ending storyline, if they finished up all that then new content can no longer be added since the main antagonist is gone.
Feeling excited, cant wait for it….. Hope it will not disappoint us, be at least 3x better than maple story..

News of this game has been around for over a year now, i guess they first announced info/set up rumors or whatever it was when they first started development on it,

i have this weird feeling that its going to resemble something like spiral knights with the way it looks and yes i know there are other games with quarter view but i think spiral knights because of how flashy and colorful the game’s thumbnails show,

Spiral Knights has no Level system and it’s not a free world game it is based on town where you can enter quests’ dungeons and ultimately you wanna get some gear so don’t tell hint Spiral Knights when you talk about MS ’cause BLABLABLA JUST DON’T unless you are like 9 and enjoy being a spiral kid

chill guys they know they have a lot riding on them for MS2, just sit back and hope for the best, I hope they have the same awesome BGM in maplestory. Can you imagine us 06 vets playing MS2 and saying, yea I was here from the beginning, they better make it so it’s more community orientated, PQs, chatting on ships, scared of getting killed by crogs,ahh the good old nostalgic days, oh childhood where have you gone.
I sure hope so. I started in 07 when a PAC meant you were pretty much the shit and the game had a huge community feel to it that made me stay with the game for so long. this game made me use to sneak my laptop to bed and play on it till 4 in the morning. Im with yah on everything you just said
