kMS ver. 1.2.223 – Black Heaven: Second Chapter & Return of the Resistance!

MapleStory Blockbuster Black Heaven Second Chapter

This update for kMS features Act 4 of Black Heaven and the return of the Resistance! All skill data has been updated, there were some changes to the skills from Tespia.

In other news, the test server Tespia has been closed and will remain closed until further notice. Nexon is looking into ways to make it more useful for collecting bugs and data.

Black Heaven Entrance Blockbuster Black Heaven

Become the protagonist and explore the story of the Black Wings’ secret weapon, Black Heaven in the new Blockbuster content.

This patch opens up Act 4, part of the Second Chapter of Black Heaven. The full map can be seen here.

Act 4. Counterattack's Signals

This part is called Act 4. The Signals of the Counterattack!

Gelimer, who somehow knew of the Alliance’s attack plan, shot down the Resistance leaders Brighton, Belle, and Checky’s flying ships and caused the Alliance’s mission to fail. The imprisoned Francis has escaped but gave important information to the protagonist. What is this important information?

Act 4 Password Entry

Act 4 has special features such as fighting monsters, avoiding surveillance, and finding the password to a door.

Act 4 Running Game

There is also an updated running game, similar to the one from Act 1!

Like before, I have the entire act on my YouTube channel!

Wow I really liked this Act, mostly because it used sooo many old characters! Dagoth, Eleanor, the Demolishizer from Riena Strait (who would’ve thought you’d see that again?) and even a special character at the end of part 3, check for yourself if you want ;). They even used the plane pilot Irvine, who saved the Resistance but your character doesn’t know who he is hahaha.

This act was also pretty difficult, it took me multiple tries to clear the security portions and the running part was so hard until I realized you could use attacking skills haha. I accidentally skipped it on the run right after I figured that out though, so I never got to finish it myself 😦

Resistance

The three base Resistance, Battle Mage, Wild Hunter, and Mechanic, have received their long-awaited reorganization! With a new look and some new skills, the Resistance return to the creation screen.

Mechanic

Mechanic Reorganization

The Mechanic update focuses on giving them the ability to attack effectively in either Metal Armor form.

Metal Armor Human and Tank

In order to make Mechanic easier to play, the number of different types of Metal Armor has been reduced from 5 to 2. Use the Human Mode for hunting in fields and Tank Mode for fighting bosses.

Metal Armor

The design of the Metal Armor has also been updated!

Rocket Booster Effect

To make Mechanic’s mobility a bit better, Rocket Booster is now available starting from first job. You can jump while attacking enemies along the way with Homing Missile.

In third job, Battle Program Setup decreases Rocket Booster’s recoil and increases the distance Mechanic Dash moves on the ground.

Homing Missile Effect

Homing Missile is a new attacking skill that can be used at any time, even when you are using another skill!

While in Tank Mode, the missiles can target multiple enemies but in Human Mode, they’ll hit only one. But if you use Bomber Time, Human Mode will also be able to target multiple enemies.

Note: Based on how it worked in Tespia and the idea that Tank Mode is used for bossing, I’m like 99% sure this explanation is backwards… (i.e. Tank Mode makes all missiles hit one target while Human Mode is multi targeted).

I don’t know about that… I was sort of hoping they would update the Blow animations a bit, especially since the range of the skills don’t match the length of the animations. Honestly, even using the rainbow-steampunk blow animations from that rejected revamp would have been nice. Well, it’s still fine to get a tweak at all, I guess.

I almost thought I am the only one who like the rainbow staff revamp in KMSt-1.2.477. I like that theme actually. Moreover, Steampunk theme suits Resistance which come from Edelstein, a Steampunk nation. But everyone was like “Ewww, WTH is the rainbow stuff and giant golem hand. BaM is dark dark dark…”

I agree xD I never really understood why Battle Mages, who really had nothing to do with “darkness” or “death”, had such a dark theme at all. I’m not knocking it or anything, but I thought the revamped look just fit the “Resistance” theme slightly better.

Looking over the numbers here, I am liking this revamp a bit more than before though :p

To be fair, Battle Mages started off with no Aura stacking.. Nexon spoiled us when stacking was introduced :P. I’ll miss my Dark Genesis Lady the most from this revamp.. I do not like the new animation at all >_> btw We can stack Auras as long as we have other Battle Mages to do so (like before), right?

Stop whining, the only change in auras now is the active effect, you now get a passive effect that gives you the same boosts as before if not even better. It’s very reasonable because some classes are way too OP with all of the aura stack, so instead you get that aura stack to yourself and can emit only one aura to others.

thank you for clearing it up all this revamp did was nerf BaMs to make them just as bad as the other resistance classes typical shortly after resistance came out they rebalanced and nerfed BaMs and bossted most other classes ever since then they have be trying to allow BaMs to see a little light but with this BaMs are finished

        • Dark Evan
          October 30, 2014 at 12:46 pm

“As BAD as the other RESISTANCE”? WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT? Dude, they were more broken than Zero for those times. They’d suck by today’s standards, but statistics compares two baseballer’s stats from decades apart by judging how far or below average his respective batting average is, Baseball seasons much longer, much more chances to strike out/foul,, but also much more chances to hit a home, much more putting the skills to the test outside of practice these days due to longer seasons. You really can’t compare 2010 dps charts to 2014 dps charts directly. I mean, in 2011, 14,000%/s was OP’d, now, its subpar to average. When BB came out, 10,000% 1v1 was “OP’d”. The power creep is real, but even FREE power’s creeping is real. as evidenced by raw dps charts.

The WH’s new system gives me hope for evans tho. If they get to bite on our system, then we can theoretically do the same, right? (hopes evans get mounted attacks)

          • Anonymous
            October 30, 2014 at 3:48 pm

no currently because everyone was saying how op BaMs was to the other resistance so im saying that they “after this revamp are just as bad as the other resistance” which i maybe wrong because they seem to be even worse than the others. and i am saying that BaMs were OP if you read it correctly that is why they rebalanced and never seemed to get it right for BaMs but most of us was satisfied with the pre 1.2.223 update BaM but this here is just terrible

WOW.. So BAM just got worse.. Indeed the aura passive and some skills got better.. but at the same time, there’s big decrements to certain skills such as

    Battle Mastery
Level 20: 20% damage, 20% minimum critical damage.
Note: In KMST it was, Level 20: 30% damage, 20% minimum critical damage.

Spell Boost: Use a special tool that amplifies your magic. (max level: 30)
Level 30: 30 magic attack, 10% damage, 30% defense ignore.
(Note: in KMST it was, Level 30: 30 magic attack, 30% damage, 30% defense ignore.)

    Battleking Bar:
Level 1: 650% damage 7 times on up to 8 enemies. There is a cooldown of 9 seconds.
(Note in KMST it was 700% dmg)

    Staff Expert
Level 30: 70% staff mastery, 30 magic attack, 15% minimum and maximum critical damage.
Note: In KMST it was Level 30: 70% staff mastery, 40 magic attack, 15% minimum and maximum critical damage.

Dark Aura (the most weird changes ever.. seems like a nerf to me)
Level 20: consumes 33 MP per second. 20% damage increase. There is a cooldown of 3 seconds. Passive effect: 15% magic attack.
In KMST: Level 20: consumes 50 MP per second. 15% damage increase. There is a cooldown of 3 seconds. Passive effect: 30% damage.

    • HaMuPrince (SEA)
      October 30, 2014 at 6:22 am

I understand, KMST isnt official, u can take it as a pinch of salt..

But the fact is, its already pretty shitty on a overall after the revamp.. is such further nerf required?? and the nerf im refering to isnt small.. mostly is in terms of % damage..

LoL are you guys just figuring this out? That’s why adventurers were nerfed so hard for so long. Shared Cash Shop inventories etc. Nexon doesn’t have time for that so they created classes for you to switch to. They come out with a new class or a “revamp” in order to keep us switching in hopes we’ll spend NX for all of our characters. The major problem is the power struggle conflicts with their NX greed in so many ways. More and more people are just selling to each other over Paypal rather than spending NX for new characters because it’s a 100% guarantee of being OP. Which is why everything is untradeable so that Nexon can once again try to get a cut of that when you scissors.

      October 30, 2014 at 11:28 am

I completely agree with you for Aran’s old combo system but disagree with you for the giving the dragon a new look. it’s already perfect and it’s called “Onyx Dragon” for a reason.

Anyway the reasons why I disagree in giving the dragon a new look:
1} Designs are nice in my opinion and NPC’s for Afrien is the same as Mir. Changing it will cause some minor/major problems later if not careful.

      2) Skill animation is already fitted for Mir (the current one). Any other designs for Mir may be unsuitable (unless they are willing to change the whole storyline and revamp the whole skills…be my guest, and when that happens, we can pray it is better and not worst).

For BaM, I was excited when i saw some improvement in the aura passives, reaper activation rate/dmg% and battle master cool down from previous notes, then I realize it was off-set by the reduction of %dmg in other passive skills…. Well at least they gave us back some of our former %critical chance ..

    • Anonymous
      October 30, 2014 at 8:39 am

at least that is at the bottom the very bottom of what is owed to BaMs 15% crit chance -_- wow yes that sure does make up for a 40% dmg reduction and a loss of use of multiple auras and a loss in Matk and the addition of CD on BKB and a 2 minute CD on BM but yes 15% crit makes that all better!

THIS IS AND WAS THE WORST REVAMP IN NEXON HISTORY INSTEAD OF MAKING THE CLASS BETTER THEY ACTUALLY MADE THEM WORSE WHICH WAS A TOUGH TASK BUT I CAN SEE NEXON IS ALWAYS UP FOR THE JOB

  22. MonsterZed
    October 30, 2014 at 9:08 am

There are good things compared to KMST – death at 4th has shorter cd and easier to trigger at bosses, lowered cooldown for battle master, higher evade from yellow aura, much more powerful red aura passive.

But damage has indeed been overnerfed, and i can’t understand debuff aura – where is it’s passive, and why such low value? Also dark genesis hypers took a nerf bat – i fail to understand why upgrade to BaM’s Dark Genesis AFA was nerfed – with 50% damage boost it was on pair with final blow’s one and perfect addition.

To sum it up short – either there’s something hidden i did not see (like BaM’s damage being elementally reset by default), or they went overboard with nerf batting the class’ damage output. Not that i’m fan of making support classes damage high, but there’s a limit.

    • Anonymous
      October 30, 2014 at 9:26 am

      actually death has been nerfed,
      old: 170+2%*180 hit:12 times cd:6s
      new: 200+1%*180 hit:12 times cd:5s
and easier to trigger at bosses is not even the problem in the beginning, cuz you don’t need 6s to only attack 3 times before, cd is the bottleneck

and i’m also wondering why they ignore debuff aura’s passive, again!
since they insist on one aura, they should make a passive for balance then, still…they don’t
and elemental reset, still 10% *sigh*

      • MonsterZed
        October 30, 2014 at 11:13 am

Death is 2% extra damage per level with 5 sec cd @4th job. The one thing that appeared in my sights is finish blow – they upped atk on it but lowered mob count from 8 to 6.

      • Likey Likey
        October 31, 2014 at 1:11 pm

If you look at the original set of BaM skills it is clearly a secondary class. A support in a way but not in the way most people envision it. Basically a secondary DPS. Nexon is changing the play style of characters rapidly and randomly.

those who says this isnt a nerf for BAM clearly havent been playing it
No amount of damage can compensate the range of BKB, vertical and horizontal
The stacking of auras I have mixed feelings, they made it passive which is good, but at the same time only 1 aura can be activated is just not fair
They didnt bother to update the blow skills animation, and they just had to add CD to all the hyper, seriously, 120s cd for 40s buff for battle master? is the buff so op it needs such long CD? +1line for blow skill(6+1), isnt this supposed to be the hyper passive ? instead the hyper passive skilsl are all useless, what for when we can only choose 1 aura to use? shelter really? DARK GENESIS REALLY?
AND YOU GUYS JUST HAD TO NERF THE BKB DMG% AND ADD THE FREAKING CD

    IM BEYOND SPEECHLESS.

I have always been a battle mage, Im not excited for this so called revamp..This is bullshit, why does Nexon hate BAM?

    • JK
      October 30, 2014 at 11:46 am

To be honest, I’m quite disappointed with BaM’s nerf/revamp. BaM may not be my main in the past or now but, I can understand the impact of this revamp. The auras are no longer stackable but they compensate with passive effects – which I think people will still rage anyway.

Thanks to the un-stackable auras, BaM will have to face the decision again which aura to pick (like in the past except that in the past it’s obvious which one you want to pick).

This round, BaM, WH and Mechanic have long cd skills (annoying as hell especially if it’s an offensive skill).

If you were to compare the three jobs, some may not be sure who ended up worst – Mech, BaM or WH. In my opinion it’s BaM due to their loss of damage. For WH? Look at the skills description and you will find how hard it is for us to train, yeah yeah you can fight alongside with your jaguar separately (READ: Let the key settings begin. And I thought Evan was worst). Mech? I don’t think it’s a nerf for them this round.

If I ever offend any of you, sorry about that. I don’t mean to, I’m just stating my opinions here. You think I’m not mad? I’m pissed off in a degree for this nerf/revamp of The Big Three of Resistance. I don’t see much good for this one.

i have your exact view this was not a revamp this was a set back if anything they tried so hard to put them back to how they used to be unique to the point they messed them up, and still ended up giving everyone of the resistance a very unnecessary Hyper CD. *SIGH*

    • Anonymous
      October 30, 2014 at 4:03 pm

    October 30, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Oh, for fuck’s sake… Everyone’s gotten even more shit in the real patch. I still don’t care about the others but Wild Hunter is my secondary character. I might actually have to quit using him. Artillery damage got practically halved so now they have no decent multi mob skills, Assisstant Unit’s damage got nerfed even more, as did Drill’s, Soul Arrow’s attack boost was halved, and Crossroads’ base damage was halved, not that I’ll ever use Crossroads but still… At least they switched the hypers. I love Rampage but I’d much rather have Flash Rain.

    • Anonymous
      October 31, 2014 at 5:04 am

Artillery dmg actually increased. It does 145% twice per arrow now

      • Some Faggot
        October 31, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Oh… I guess it was only first and second job artillery that was nerfed. I guess that’s fine. Still not big on this revamp though.

    • Anonymous
      October 31, 2014 at 8:34 am

jaguar skills are mostly for bossing now, they inflict the another bite debuff which actually does decent damage(each arrow of wab does activate another bite, sort of like afa). while jaguar artillery and flash rain is more for mobbing. one good change from tespia that they implement is that you can now jump and move while using wab, even though u are unmounted, making summon jaguar a feasible bossing method now

    • Anonymous
      October 31, 2014 at 8:50 am

As for jaguar artillery, it may be a nerf, seems to deal 145% twice including arrows from both wab itself + jaguar artillery….
      http://www.insoya.com/bbs/zboard.php?id=ucc&divpage=10&no=52216
see that he does 2~3m twice while mounted, 5m per line while unmounted/summon jaguar mode.
perhaps nexon did this to clearly distinguish which mode is for mobbing, which is for bossing.

      October 30, 2014 at 2:12 pm

i was thinking the same thing..
where are link skills for resistance? Cygnus and all the other special classes have them.. They could have made WH/Mech/BaM have link skills for 5% ignore monster DEF each (adds up to 15%).

      • Likey Likey
        October 31, 2014 at 1:15 pm

And the point would be??? Still locking us at 12 link skills anyway. You’d be better off making 1 luminous and saving your other 2 link skill slots. I agree but all characters should have link skills period and it shouldn’t be capped. While they’re at it they should give us a link skill manager that actually works.

    October 30, 2014 at 2:34 pm

They way ii see it is :

Mech – WTF. 33 hits per second, each 500% power with SPLASH-F and that thing mobs too…Support waver = Debuff aura + dark aura + red aura, only better in terms of damage when hyperskilled.

Wild hunter – crazy amount of hits per sec – vulcan + artillery + afa + another bite + assistant unit + drill container.

BaM – very versatile auras…but given mech’s support waver and damage nerf – shafted hard

    • Anonymous
      October 30, 2014 at 4:19 pm

but debuff aura is useless who would anyone ever subject themselves to using it blue or drain aura just for their party? just get a damn Bishop. The way that i see it BaMs do now have any versatility in auras they only have one choice and thats Dark aura. Do you even play a BaM? no seriously do you play a BaM and if so why in the hell would you ever use Debuff, Blue, Drain, or Yellow aura as an active over Dark aura? and why the hell are you so adamant about BaMs supporting everyone when his description states “The Battle Mage is unique amongst Magicians as it is primarily a melee combat character. Using his staff to beat back the Black Wings, the Battle Mage will be the first into danger, placing himself between his teammates and the forces of darkness. He also has Aura abilities, which allow him to buff himself and his friends in combat.” being as the last bit of the description is the support means that he is an attacker first and supporter second but you do not seem to get it. but i am not trying to attack you on the matter because you also understand that BaMs were terribly nerfed in Dps and other ways many other ways

      • MonsterZed
        October 30, 2014 at 5:46 pm

Hate to say it but you do make good point there.

Bam started of as something between paladin, aran and bishop – a tanky melee mage that didn’t have that much power but with his auras and defense kept that damage going while supporting allies without needing to stop-drop-and-buff.

But now the concept got fucked over with wrong numbers. I don’t hate the new auras – i hate their numbers kill their purpose.

Dark is obviously the first choice indeed. If it wasn’t hypered with 10% boss damage, debuff aura would have places where it would be better with it’s hyper, but atm that’s not the case. Debuff is garbage.

Yellow aura is pointless too, because one speed increment is around 10% more damage or somewhere around that. Dark kills it.

Blue aura is respectful, and that hyper adds to it. The only one next to dark that makes accual sense.

Red – i won’t say it’s useless – damn bishop needs to stop, drop and cast, while BaM just pops it and all get healed without him making any stops to wipe their rear. But given mech has strong party healing summon, that has abilities of 3 auras at same time well…those tosters got way too op with this patch.

Debuff – dark killed it and having no passive at all is just sad.

The KMST version whille it made many rage was far better number wise then this. And it had 90% passive damage bonuses. Now it’s 45% and more Matt instead, but % is always better then flat numbers, given how high MATT goes with gear alone.

And who the hell let SPLASH-F which hits 6 x 500% per A FREAKING 0.18s (that’s 5.5 times a second!), on mobs (!!) get past scrutiny and into live server? Someone should lay off the weed there, there’s a limit how much smoke you can inhale and get away with it.

BaMs were never first string characters. They weren’t meant for solo. Nexon screwed up and made them a DPS mage and now they’re taking it back. They aren’t DPS and they aren’t support.. they’re secondary DPS. So whatever ups the party’s survival or DPS is the aura they should use. However, I think its too late to think about party play when Nexon has clearly chosen the side of the solo player vs. the party bosser (especially since they removed expedition capabilities anyway..lolwat?).

    • Knite0
      October 30, 2014 at 8:52 pm

Sadly, that splash-F’s hps is not 33, from teh vid you can tell it’s slightly more than 5 times per second. Yes the new “amp” is better cause it has no cd, but it STILL DOESN’T HEAL 50 FREAKING % HP!!! (seriously nexon? read your own coding.) Also, I miss siege.

However, the missiles are extremely useful, it’s just that these vids don’t have people who can mash 2 keys together efficiently, though that iron-b thing’s attack speed is half of siege’s (but it’s 8 hits, so 16 hps for that skill isn’t bad I guess)

So for me, it’s: Mobbing – S+, Bossing – ?? (need to see some dps for it), Healing – eff you nexon.

      • MonsterZed
        October 31, 2014 at 2:56 am

it is 33 times per second because each one of those 5 times per second is a 6-lined attack, thus the number.

        • Knite0
          November 3, 2014 at 9:52 am

seriously, watch some mech vids instead of just basing what you say off what you’ve read. It’ll be blatantly obvious it’s only 180ms (disappointing, however, the missiles/iron-b combo is just as strong as if that splash-f did hit 33 times)

      • It still doesnt heal 50%?
        October 31, 2014 at 1:26 pm

How much does it heal now? I cant really see from the videos. At least we dont have to crouch >< I wonder if we can macro missiles and iron b together? That would be awesome 😀

        • Knite0
          November 3, 2014 at 9:55 am

Oh it heals the exact same amount as it does right now in gms: 50% hp OF YOUR BASE HP (which is viewable in the ap reset window) Mechs have 5k base hp approx.

By the way, classes with high base hp, like warriors, get closer to a full 50% hp back.

I noticed something on the extractions in southperry to the skill Spell Boost:

on Kmst – Magic Attack #madX, Damage # damR%, ignore monsters defense # ignoreMobpdpR% increase
    madX (30)

    on KMS – Magic Attack # madR%, Damage # damR%, ignore monsters defense # ignoreMobpdpR% increase

All these people stating we are shit now need to stop D!CK riding all the negative comments and realize that BaMs are still fucking awesome and cmon its Nexon we are talking about BaMs will eventually receive a few more tweaks down the road so calm your nipples stupid whiners.

Dick riding you say. No you are dick riding nexon Sir. I was one of the first to comment on both of the kmst and kms revamps and i am still pissed i dont want to have to be ok with this shit because oh well later tdown the line they will sort out the shit they made in the first place. the passives are far from ridiculous when compared to the actives of the Pre 1.2.223 update that got boosted by BCA please go back to school and start math from scratch because no amount of dmg% or matk% we gained will make up for the loss of BKB, at HoH we could hit both stages we only had to stay on the bottom level and reek havoc on the second stage. When hunting the less movement needed between attacks greatly boosts the exp gained but why am i explaining this to you? You probably did not even know this. BKB is BaMs greatest resource and with this revamp we lost it and gained a skill that activates once every 5 seconds and only after either killing a number of mobs or making 2 attacks on a boss why not just after 4-5 attacks will it activate? But that still would not make up for BKB being as it has like 0 vertical but it would have been better. It may have been annoying while chatting but BKB’s addition to Dps is great and has not been made up for in this revamp!

First to comment? well, you want an award or something? Like i said in the kmst revamp, it isnt so bad. Now, in kms, its better. How good a class is isnt determined by numbers. Calculating too much will just shorten your life. Like what that guy above said, they will tweak Bams along the road (if its really that bad) so just relax and see how it goes == There’s no point going against everybody who thinks that the revamp for bams are fine, not bad, or very good. People like you are just overly pampered by Nexon. If they havent given BCA from the start you’d probably be wetting your pants over this revamp. Learn to appreciate even the smallest things.

Now you sir please listen closely

            1) if BCA was not given in the first place BaMs would have been a dead class because their dps would have still been that of 2011-2012.

            2) “Learn to appreciate even the smallest things.” this is trash they destroyed the class and i am to “appreciate the smallest things.” oh like the small thing like me not being able to attack as quickly as before or the other small thing like BKB getting a CD and dropping my Dps? oh yea i should appreciate that!

3)Maplestory is a game where you can get so powerful that most class can solo any boss. But now its become harder for BaMs because of the loss in Dps but oh yea thats right Numbers do not matter! But most other classes can have fun Soloing to their hearts delight but oh yea i should not because im now shafted into a support class that can not even support good.

4)”There’s no point going against everybody who thinks that the revamp for bams are fine, not bad, or very good.” Of course their is i am an individual i am not you and never will be nor am i any of the other people who like this shit i am appalled at this update and i shall voice my opinion and masterfully craft my debate and rebuttal so that i can get others to understand just how much nexon fucked up.

5)”People like you are just overly pampered by Nexon.” this is a damn video game that they want people to play they had better pamper the hell out of me. Why the hell would i not wnat to be pampered and why are you happy not being pampered?

Your a jack ass no seriously! no BKB less Dps but you love it? lol mechs had the same type of system “In order to make Mechanic easier to play, the number of different types of Metal Armor has been reduced from 5 to 2.” but now BaMs went from 1 (technically) to 5 we will have the same issue as Mechs did. But obviously you cannot see that

This isn’t the apocalypse, and stuff WILL get tweaked down the road. expect 2-3 months after release to have stuff changed. To expect anything else is to make the assumption that Nexon doesn’t understand the basics of game design, which, having played MS since Beta, I can assure you, they do.

I’m feeling iffy on this revamp, the aura’s effects seem rather underwhelming compared to when we had GLA or even when we only had SB. Seems like they’re taking this class from a Mobbing Class (large AoE + lots of TD) to a bossing class (less TD more %Matk, ele reset, boss damage) how ever they decided to gimp us part way through and hold back on anything that would make us really useful. Our usefulness in parties was also cut down in exchange for a bigger variety, and most of which are pretty useless outside of bossing situations. Finally we got passives for our aura’s, although again, being unable to multi-aura means most of those are useless. Only 2 of Dark Gene passives are useful for bossing standards, and Shelter is an OK addition I’d say since we’re a support class.

Also, my love for this class was entirely based on the whole comboing of FB w/ finisher in the past, and BKB now. Getting to 170 for BKB was the biggest chore for one of the biggest pay offs for me, the name (fk NexonA for screwing that up), the skill animation, and the range were all amazing, incredibly sad to see this class become a 10-250 one skill only class, not even tornado to stem it now.

TL;DR: Battle Mages are trying to become a bossing support class (no more BKB spaming), something like a worse Paladin, but %hp protection sharing instead of revive, and a teribad threaten (-20%def) aura w/ 10% ele reset or 30% td versus bosses with dark.

    • Anonymous
      October 31, 2014 at 11:09 am

“The Battle Mage is unique amongst Magicians as it is primarily a melee combat character. Using his staff to beat back the Black Wings, the Battle Mage will be the first into danger, placing himself between his teammates and the forces of darkness. He also has Aura abilities, which allow him to buff himself and his friends in combat.” Being as BaMs used auras to boost themselves they just so happened to buff(not support there is nothing in his description that has anything about him supporting other people only buffing) so your comment “and Shelter is an OK addition I’d say since we’re a support class.” Is foolishness! Would you call the shadower class a support class? they do buff movement speed and they have smokescreen? No you would not! I do not know if you meant this statement as of the recent update but before this update we definitely were not a support class and i would have loved to see passive hypers for finish blow such as increasing the hit rate from 6-7 then boss % by 10-20 and maybe something like + 2 mobs hit to put it back to its 8 monsters hit that would have been far better than shelter.

      • Pearson
        October 31, 2014 at 4:44 pm

And yet, BaMs have always preformed their best in large parties due to auras effecting all memebers, at least until we got GLA we were always welcome in parties for a DPS boost, and the protection from shelter has always been one of my favorite skills, regardless of how bad it is. The main point of my post is that BaMs are becoming more bossing oriented with this revamp, we lost our main move to clear large maps, and in return got an additional hard hitting attack which focuses on bosses, lost %dmg in favor of Matk, and unstackable Auras which tend to favor condition s while fighting bosses over fighting mobs.

Do not get me wrong, the revamp is a stupid idea, moving a class from one niche to another is problematic as is, but its kinda bullshit to think that both the other classes got boosts in both moving and bossing, while we got shafted in mobing and they didn’t even make us that much of a better bosser, and that’s not even getting into the attack speed loss, which means playing with regular staves will be slow and boring once again.

It’s bad. You forgot about bam can’t use the whole aura anymor..and no more body boost no more grand light aura. All sucks.
You don’t even really use dark genesis. Idk why they revamp this shit. ANd you forgot the cooldown..don’t get blinded by 3 second. You will feel it how suck it is…and bam use staff and all staff are slow except e-staff.

battle king bar has cooldown for 90 seconds and the buff has cooldown for 120 seconds.

+45% matt is totally worth -50% dmg, 10 matt and 5% crit, because of diminishing marginal return. For reference dmg% and matt% are stacked independently. For reference, pre-patch BaM has +105% dmg, post-patch has +50% dmg and +45% matt, which are calculated mulplicatively instead of addictively, which in fact, results in +118% dmg. With Battle Rage on, this is even more significant, pre-patch BaM has +145% dmg, whereas post-patch has +90% dmg and + 45 matt, which sums to +176% dmg.

To be honest I think it is too late to separate auras. Nexon needs to figure out what they actually want BaMs to be. I’ve never liked BaMs but this yanking around of any class is ridiculous. Also they obviously have no clue what to do with WH. If they separate auras out like that they should at least double the effects of each aura.

    only 3 things:
    remove auras cooldown
    2 auras stacking
    improve yellow and debuff aura
    remove BKB cooldown (like before)
    remove Battle Master cooldown

The damage has been nerfed, thats why i think that BKB and Batte Master should have no cooldown. I like the new aura system, but i think dark aura is irreplaceable, so this system is useless if we can use only 1 aura.

but i would like to add one thing it is not about the functioning of the class but the skill animations i was thinking of an aura death scythe for the blow skills, the first job should be really small then scale up to a nice sized one for fourth job then Battle King’s Bar should be a massive aura death scythe with the same effects and dmg but that animation would be so cool it should meld well with the death and aura theme.

The idea of auras is a very good one – a buff that doesn’t have the weakness and niussances of normal buffs. One time cast, huge range and auto-reapplying, if it’s undispellable then it’s diamonds. It’s enough to remember my days as paladin, when there was nothing worse then boss’s dispel and having to recast 7-9 buffs by which time another dispel was on it’s way.

The clear problem here are the values and lacking ideas which applied correctly could make for some real alternatives and matching a given buff to given situation.
    Few possible improvements:

    – yellow aura – additional active effect: improvement in skill’s hitbox size (20%)
Additional passive effect – improves range of teleport and dark shock (something significant, like 50%).

If you can get there without rope, or cast your ultimate being sure it will hit both platform beneath and above you, then that’s not raw dps but clear gain non the less. Imagine bosses like zakum or HT where you just tele up to the right platform, rather then climbing rope, of your main skill hitting additional parts of said boss, thanks to wider range. Teleporting behind boss unscathed thanks to extra range sounds cool too.

    – red aura – change in active formula – the hp leeched by attacking is equally distributed to all party members. The idea is that seduced or otherwise incapacitated characters can get healed by the ones in combat thanks to sharing that drain. Bypasses zombify.

    – blue aura – fine as is. no need for changes.

    – debuff aura – active effect: strenghtens effects of debuffs casted on affected target by 50% DoT included. Does not change their duration nor boosts itself (with exception of it’s elemental reset feature avaiable via hyper) . Asides normal debuff skills, their hyper enchanced versions and purely hyper skill debuffs are also affected.

passive effect: 30% defense ignore (in exchange finishing blow’s def ignore would be removed).

Elemental reset hyper enhance stays as is – it’s a good enhancement

    – dark aura – no changes needed here tbh.

Battle rage and battle mastery swap their minimum critical damage values – so in debuff aura Battle rage gives 10% extra minimum critical damage next to 10% extra critical chance and 20% damage.

With those changes i belive auras would be meaningful and worth the use based on situation and not on “Is it tha dark aura or not….

      October 31, 2014 at 10:11 pm

completely agree with u, its like what i said before, the way it is atm, dark aura will always be the best option
i also think that they should remove aura cooldown, so we could switch while fighting. like switching to blue aura to dispel, or to yellow aura to go top platform (based on ur idea xD), or to red aura to heal seduced allies (based on ur idea too =P), etc

Hm who knows, who knows;) Correcting what i wrote above – the elemental reset hyper enchance from debuff should not be buffed by it – keeping it at 10-12% makes things more fair, at end game bossing. 10% ele reset alone already matches 20% from dark aura given it’s p-resistant boss and you got no ele reset of your own.

Some characters will be better off with dark aura – for example most mages, some much happier with debuff aura – those with no elemental reset and a good debuff – such as heroes, paladins, f/p mages, marksmen, BaMs themselves, wild hunters, some stuck between a rock and a hard place – having partial elemental reset, but also good debuffs/DoT, such as mercedes, wind archers, soul masters or f/p.

Also fact that debuff aura affects the boss, giving all attackers and edge, while dark aura is limited to your own party only also makes the difference.

On a side-note – i’m amazed how well BaM’s new artwork is made. Given all the colors of the auras snuck into the character design, and not resulting in gaudy, incoherent mess.

just give some ele reset for debuff aura’s passive, and make 2 or 3 auras stackable, problem solved

not only can really make a choice for BaM, but also make up our lose dps

      • Anonymous
        November 1, 2014 at 11:24 am

but this is still not going to make up for all of the loss in dps with reaper being nerfed after its already almost useless effects and BKB getting 9 second CD dps is trash with our now loss of 2 atk speed and 5% crit. there is much to be had to make up for what was lost but reaper could have an effect of hitting once every 4-5 attacks instead of the 5 second CD then the need to attack several times to activate that still would not make up for bkb CD but its a start the fact that most other classes main attack skill gets Hyper passives but BaMs own does not still irks me that could be another route to make up for lose dps the most obvious being removal of CD on both BKB and battle master would help significantly w/o having to make much other changes or overly complicate anything.

        • Anonymous
          November 1, 2014 at 11:48 am

actually, i only care for boss fight though, as long as BaM gets 100% ele reset, i think it’s worthy, cuz it’s almost 50% total dps we mention…

and cd on reaper and BKB, i think they’ll not change back. in short, either you get less cd on those skills, or you get auras stackable. and both of it are better than what we got now…

and remove cd on BM and BKB, i don’t think so, they already raise finish blow’s damage and make a reaper for new move, if take out that two’s cd, it’s too strong.

don’t get me wrong, BaM is also my main, but something you just need to get used to it, all we can do is suggest and wait.

          • MonsterZed
            November 1, 2014 at 3:12 pm

We’ll see how it goes, though it is very doubtful BaM would get a full ele reset. Against p-resistant bosses that is single strongest damage buff, that keeps top dpsers such as kaisers and zeroes in check, otherwise no one would play anything else. A bam with ele reset would get near top with that, and having already powerful support and resounding defense…well he’d be another paladin and they already fixed that.

That being said there is a way in which your bam can get up there a bit – grab a soul master. If he has hyper enchanced true sight he will cut that 50% all resistance down to 30% for your BaM. I did thorough reserch and self-testing on the subject. it kicks ass.

It may not be a full 100% damage, but doing 70% of your damage still beats doing 50% of it by a country mile.

          • Anonymous
            November 1, 2014 at 3:30 pm

since ele reset is an op buff, i think they should make them not work on p-resistant bosses, this is even better. or you almost need twice of funds to catch up those magicians. in other word, that is so lame.

          • Anonymous
            November 1, 2014 at 3:37 pm

and that 100% ele reset idea, is set up by if they’re not gonna change anything you know. cuz this “revamp” is not really a good one for BaM. that’s why i said it’s worthy to get one from what we sacrificed this time.

I’m sick of people whining about BaM getting nerfed. It’s not a nerf, to subpar, but rather a balance, such that other classes are on par with it.

Honestly I think BaM only got nerfed in 2 areas (considering aura stacking and GLA is replaced by the aura passives): BKB’s massive range, and a massive drop in attack speed if you are not using an Ele Staff.

Even as BaM lost spammable BKB, what they got in return is a damage boost on Finish Blow and the passive Reaper for some amount of damage, which actually more than makes up for BKB for raw DPS on bosses since Finish Blow is that much faster than BKB. For anyone talking about losing BKB’s full screen nuke utility, BKB has crazy range to begin with. It is basically a spammable Genesis, which is really massively unfair to all the other class who cannot mob the whole screen without a cooldown. BaM is supposed to be a melee mage, yet it hits further than ‘proper’ mage most of the time. If we really want BaM to have cooldownless BKB, we might as well give Bishops cooldownless Genesis and call it a day. The nerf on the spammability of BKB to balance it is justified.

And the -2 AS from -6. Honestly speaking, -6 is just ridiculous to begin with. BaM’s novelty with attacking with staves is that it uses the attack speed of the staff instead of using the default of speed 6 for casting (i.e. other Mages). This implies that when they designed BaM, they intended for staff speed to play an actual role. With a -6, it means that even the slowest of staves can reach maximum attack speed, which takes away any point of making staff speed determine attack speed. I like how -2 AS means you can either use Ele Staff to reach max attack speed, or use a staff with a set effect, but only reach -5 AS.

Well if anyone could reach max speed efortlessly, then just what would be the point of strikers/thunder breakers and buccaneers in party play?

The very point of class system is that there is no one “right for everything” character, but you gotta makes some choices. Archers got SE but not Speed Infusion. Buccs got Speed Infusion and TIme Leap but not Hyper Body, etc.

Lol anyone who claimed they have “mained BaM every since their release” and mentioned that taking away BKB and aura stacking is taking away the essense of BaM is so contradicting themselves because those 2 concepts weren’t there in the first place. After getting BKB specifically, I felt that spamming BKB is the most stupid thing ever, taking away the use of all our utility skills. I was fine with aura stacking until GLA came out, which is stupid because it takes our best support skills and turned them into self buffs aka defeated the purpose of them being auras. Nowadays most BaM, would just be selfish and turn on GLA and not give the rest of the party auras, which implies they think the additional damage will outweigh the additional damage for the rest of the part combined. The -6 AS, the 80% avoid, massive range, high DPS, stance, BaM are basically near the top for every single trait we seek in a job, is just the best at almost everything. We turned from a party oriented close range mage class to a solo mage with one of the largest range. If they are ever going to remove BKB cooldown again, I want it be have a range no larger than Beyonder seeing that both are similar skills, and would be pretty fair.

Having said that, I’m really satisfied with what they did to BaM. They made BKB less spammable meaning we are back to being melee mages, which is the reason why most people started BaM (i.e. ‘most’ because some play because it is ungodly). Removal of aura stacking and making the additional boosts into passives cuts down the need to use Body Boost and GLA every few minutes, while still being able to provide support to the rest of the party, and keeping a similar % damage bonus. I like that AS is no longer cap at all times because now we have 2 distinct builds: Fafnir Staff hard hitting/normal AS build, or Ele Staff faster AS build, which both have their distinct advantages, rather than everyone just using slow staves with no negative implications.

To those who said they want to quit once this patch reaches, suck it up, just go and quit. You are just playing BaM because they are practically near the top for everything, rather than enjoying the class itself. We don’t need people like you.

      what happened, happened.
it’s too late to say if there are no aura stacking, GLA or BKB back in that days.
it’s the progress they chose and made, maybe they are lack of imagination in the beginning or what. now just need time to deal with it.

playing BaM because they are practically near the top for everything?
sadly, in this game, money is everything.
still, i don’t think BaM will near the top even when you fund it…a lot lol
i call that love cuz i respect my first choice.

ok i was not going to say anything to this post but shit i am me and i do not take shit like this and just walk off. list here why should i sacrifice my dmg for someone else? they dont have to scrifice their dmg for my own. especially when this person can solo on his own? isnt being selfish what all games turn out to be in end game? and most classes are selfish also such as Dual Blade shit the skill is called self haste. i mean especially in cases where most classes can solo almost any boss? and why after having to wait to lvl 170 should i still be made to use those useless utility skills? do you not understand the reasoning behind why jobs advance? advancement means you make yourself more efficient and BKB made it so that we became even more efficient in mobing and an increased to dps during bossing, but you would still love to use your 2nd and 3rd job skills even after lvl 170. well shit now its seems we are all going to be forced to use them so there you go all of you guys whom liked this shitty revamp got what they wished for i want my damn pre 1.2.223 BaMs skills to stay as it is people were not complaining while it was active shit i didnt see any BaM saying “FUCK WHY AM I ABLE TO USE ALL THESE AURAS AND A GREAT ADDITION TO MY DPS FUCK YOU NEXON FOR GIVING ME SOME VERY GOOD END GAME SKILLS THAT ARE ACTUALLY USEFUL” i did not hear one person complain about htat but now you are complaining about others preferring pre 1.2.223? your a fucking asshole! but you know what congratulations on winning!

Easy, tiger. You let something dramatically huge slide past you. That is the “little” fact, that if you add damage to party at cost of your own, that that may well make you the top damage disher.

If your buff makes them do more damage, that extra damage belongs to you – if you weren’t in there, no extra damage. More over, the top damage dealers that invested heavily in their own damage need to keep the investment going, or risk being replaced with someone else. A support class runs into much less risk of such treatment. If 5 buffed up “egoists” get 20% more damage each, then that totaled gives them damage equal to 6th, equally powerful one, with your own damage on top. You’re already better then 6th one equal to the 5 “soloists”.

I’m not praising nexon for nerfing BaM’s here, especially how they botched the auras utility – only dark matters 90% of the time..

But i am saying don’t blow your hat for class being supportive and not top dps. There are plenty of pure dps and little to none support choices out there that you can make.

Feel free to blow your hat sky high however and Nexon’s epic failage when it comes to balancing and indeed making sure that one class does not get OP attack, defense and support in one package while rest gotta feel the pour cousin (looking at you, revamped tosters).

well we dealt with the single aura thing when they first came out and they do look pretty nice in that video with the lvl 206 training at kritias but future stone golemn will be annoying as fuck w/o spammable BKB T-T

I don’t know how anyone would not consider BaM absolutely broken. According to SouthPerry charts, pre-nerf BaM reaches 18xxx%/s (for reference, most other classes lie around 14xxx%/s), and are only beaten by Hero, Night Walker, FP and Zero in terms of DPS. Hero and NW are held back by lack of mobbing abilities; FP is severely limited by damage cap. Zero has problems with practicality in some bosses due to the nature of their skills involving movements.

Now if we add in the fact that BaM has one of the top survivability in the game, one of the best hunting tools, one of the best support abilities, you obviously have the mindset of a 5 year old if you consider BaM deserves to have all of those at once; they are bound to get nerfed or other classes will get buffed beyond them. I am gonna establish that BKB is a god tier skill, but what makes BaM, more deserving of it than any other class? Because it has no bossing presence before 170? For the record without any hyper, BaM has more DPS than Merc, IL and other stuff even after maxing all hyper, along with more survivability, and better utility moves like stance on top of that. How about go and give every class weaker than BaM BKB in that case? If everyone deserves it, then logically speaking, no one deserves it. I’m sure the entire community will be happy if everyone has a spammable full screen nuke like BKB.

It’s a decent balancing act because at least they let BaM retain their DPS. BKB? Why is BaM the only one deserving of that? -6 AS? Why is BaM the only one deserving of it? Other than losing the ability to nuke the whole screen every second, you basically lost nothing with the buffs given to several skills like FB.

Oh and to add on, they didn’t get nerfed in terms of DPS because BKB is 400% x 7, and new Finish Blow got buffed from 240% to 330%, and on top of the 380% x 12 every 5 seconds. What BaM lost is literally the full screen utility of BKB and that’s that.

stop fooling yourself they got nerfed they lost +2 atk speed which significantly drops Dps -_- or did you not take that into consideration? and if you had calculated correctly you would have known that BKB + Finishing blow has a greater %dmg in 9seconds than the new Finishing blow especially because of the loss in attack speed -_- please go back and recalculate

Use a elemental staff to reach max attack speed anyways. Or use DSI and green potions. They designed attack speed to scale off staves attack speed for a reason (unlike other mages where staff attack speed doesn’t matter), if the slowest staff attacks as fast as the fastest one, then I just consider it bad design.

To add on, losing BKB in this patch does not make DPS weaker. Your passive buffs makes up for GLA and stuff combined. You lost 400% x 7 from BKB, but to make up for that, Finish Blow goes from 240% x 6 to 330% x 6. BKB is about 20% slower than FB, so instead of using BKB, you can use 1.2 FB. You lost 2800% from not using BKB, but you gained 2376% from using 1.2 FB instead. Then add in the 540% more damage from the initial FB, you get 2916% out of it.

This revamp was well done, enough said. Nexon respected our wishes and cancelled the last attempt at a BaM revamp (which, mathematically speaking for all you damage wh0res, gave BaMs more dps and damage iirc). They kept a similar gameplay with better playstyle mechanics IMO. Biggest let down for me was that they didn’t revamp skill animations. Cd on bkb doesnt bother me like cmon?! 9secs will go by quickly as you utilize everything else Battle Mages have to offer such as a supportive role when needed, yeah dark aura most of the time but so what, be thankful that you are able to offer others a lot more help with your auras; unless you’re not into interacting with others on maple and judge people on damage then fuck you ^.^. Happy Mapling and Shoutout to all my day 1 BaMs ❤

“This revamp was well done, enough said. Nexon respected our wishes and cancelled the last attempt at a BaM revamp (which, mathematically speaking for all you damage wh0res, gave BaMs more dps and damage iirc).” yes i understand this and i liked the last attempt much better than this this is trash all you people care about is bashing dmg whores what is wrong with wanting your class to be strong?” 9secs will go by quickly as you utilize everything else Battle Mages have to offer such as a supportive role when needed,” i did not sign up to play a BaM to be shafted into a support character but i do not judge people on their dmg but i do judge myself pretty harshly and after this patch comes to gms i will have to analyze it for myself to see if i still want to play this class. . . . . maybe even this game, but it is all over and done with because unlike before nexon believed they did a good job -_- which in my opinion this revamp is bull fucking shit! And yes i do not play maplestory to interact with other people i am a solo player. but they have been trying to force interactions by making PQ the main leveling engine from lvls 70-120 which to me is fucknig annoying!

Fantastic. Losing the best (and undeserved) mobbing ability in the game, but gaining a DPs of 2000%/s up from 18000%/s (one of the highest to date) with cap atack speed (even accounting old staff at cap and new one at AS 4, you still gain approx of 400%/s) magically shafts BaMs into a support role. Continue to amuse me. Go cry in a corner.

For reference, calcs were done by some guy on Insoya. Chaining the old BKB after every the new FB would ironically cut DPS, that’s why they increased it’s damage but gave it a cooldown, so that with the increased damage, it no longer clears the screen every second or so.

And for reference, the increase in damage is because some % dmg is converted to % matk, which stack multiplicatively with each other because of diminishing marginal return.

Hi max, I was wondering if there’s any translations for the black heaven stories
I watched all your black heaven videos and I’m annoyed because I can’t understand much of the story. Thanks!

Hi, I’m sorry but I don’t think there are. I’d try and do it myself but there’s so many and I don’t have that much time! But I think with the title/description + a general idea about the story (by watching the characters, cutscenes, etc) should be enough for most of the videos. If you have any questions though, feel free to ask!

Hi max! Could you please translate the part with Beryl’s appearance and the part with Francis and Orchid? 😛 also what happened to the 3 job instructors? Did they say how they survived, why they didn’t die? Thanks in advance!!

I added subtitles for those two parts, enjoy!

And the person that saved them was Irvine, the plane guy from Six Paths Crossway. He was flying around the area and saw them falling, and he’s called the ‘legend of the skies’ but your character doesn’t know who he is haha.

So for any mechs on here I bothered to run the numbers for bossing from the extraction data (however I could not figure out how to add in distortion field).
Missiles hit at a rate of 18.75 hps, with dps of 12187.5%/s (outdoing siege) and Iron-B technically hits 9 times (explosion) so it’s hps is approx 11.54 and it’s dps is 4154%/s but the best part is the skill description for missiles is accurate: you CAN spam both together without them interfering with each others dps (as seen in this chaos pierre vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4cAT3A2ljc) meaning we can add the dps together for 16341.5 dps

Aka, Missiles is the new bossing move, and Iron-B is for some extra dps when you can

Hmmm….doesn’t seem so bad. Just some skill tweaks here and there. Whats the big deal?

    • Anonymous
      November 4, 2014 at 6:59 pm

compare old BaMs to new BaMs with mathematical calculations they lost out in many ways. being unable to stack auras is one and non spammable BKB is another, that is the big deal is. but well regardless we will have to see what is done about that in future

        November 12, 2014 at 8:26 pm

Let me rephrase. They can no longer hog 3 auras with GLA and has to let the party have an aura now. Finish Blow got buffed so much that using BKB in between every attack is weaker than spamming FB. Therefore they gave BKB a cooldown so it doesn’t become the best screen clearing move in the game which no other job has. Then they reduced the attack speed gain from -6 to -2 so that there is actually a point in getting a fast staff as compared to using the slowest staff possible and hit AS cap. It is satisfactory, yet many people are making a big deal of its inability to clear the screen faster than other classes.

Max, I have an idea for Black Mage Battle can you please post it on KMS forums?
When Black Mage faces the maple good guys, Neinheart would step out and BM and Nein would have a VERY long discussion between each other throwing arguments at each other all the time. Then someone like Magnus (or anyone reasonable) would try to barge into the discussion but they would be kicked sharply.

Some intelligent and brain-sweating text on maple would be nice… Neinheart is pretty smart so it would be fun him fighting Black Mage with words. Ofc it doesn’t have to lead anywhere. Just a cutscene or something

According to Southperry extractions, BaMs just got a massive nerf in kmst, Finish Blow got nerfed, BKB got nerfed, Reaper got a damage cut. Be satisfied for what you have now or they may nerf further.
