MapleStory Summer 2025 Showcase – Assemble!

The MapleStory Summer 2025 showcase Assemble took place yesterday, detailing what content will be added in the coming months. The first patch will include a new Anima warrior job, Len, the second patch will release new 6th job skills for all classes, and the third patch will add a new boss. And of course it all comes with a bunch of QoL improvements and features, and various events such as enhanced Hyper Burning and Challengers World.

Following the showcase, the test server was updated with the new job. Since it’s an Anima class, all of its skills are written in Hanja which makes translations more difficult and time-consuming, so we’ll see when I can finish the post by.

New Job: The Red-Eyed Wanderer, Len

  • Len is an Rabbit Anima warrior class with an eastern-inspired swordswoman theme.
  • Len is the first new job in almost 3 years. Constantly releasing new jobs is not very good for a live service game so they focused on things like class remasters and 6th job skills, but the Assemble update was meant to collect a lot of things that players wanted. One of the main things requested was a new job, and thus, they decided to add the 47th job, Len. They designed her to have a cute personality but a little lacking in in the smarts department.
  • Beside her is Saya, an Imugi (Korean mythological creature, sort of a mix between a dragon and a snake). Saya is Len’s best friend and is an important part of Len’s story and skills.
  • Len will come with a pre-registration event, as well as growth and cosmetic reward events.
  • The main concept was to create a job that is easy to play and one that new players can understand quickly. There are also some additional movement and utility abilities that can be used to maximize damage to add a little bit of complexity.
  • Len’s main skills use the Plum Blossom Sword (red) and the Lost Soul Sword (black). The Plum Blossom Sword is the main attacking skill, and it’s a keydown skill. You can also move and jump while using it, which makes it easy to play. The Lost Soul Sword skills will activate automatically. When they are used enough, you can use ‘ultimate skills’ with the Azure Dragon Sky Splitting Sword.

New 6th Job Skills: Ascent Skills

  • The second Skill Core: Ascent Skills. (Note: some classes, mainly Striker/Eunwol/Anima, use Hanja for skill names so they are more subject to interpretation and much harder to translate.)
    • Hero: Silent Cleave
    • Dark Knight: Dark Heldom
    • Paladin: Dominus Obrion
    • Viper: Haymaker
    • Captain: Firecracker
    • Cannon Shooter: Barrel of Monkeys
    • Archmage (I/L): Parabolic Bolt
    • Bishop: Command of Heaven
    • Archmage (F/P): Torrential Flame
    • Marksman: Fatal Trigger
    • Pathfinder: Relic Penetration
    • Bowmaster: Point Zero
    • Dual Blade: Yamazu Decree
    • Night Lord: Crucial Assault
    • Shadower: Authentic Darkness
    • Striker: Strong Wave Annihilation (질도섬멸)
    • Mikhail: Knight Immortals
    • Night Walker: Stygian Command
    • Soul Master: Totality
    • Flame Wizard: Flame Concerto
    • Wind Breaker: Element Tempest
    • Mercedes: Elemental Spirit
    • Luminous: Lustrous Orb
    • Eunwol: Eternal Moon (영월)
    • Phantom: Moonlight Serenade
    • Aran: Frost Bluster
    • Evan: Union Drive
    • Mechanic: Metal Armor: Extermination
    • Xenon: Neoteric Trice
    • Demon Avenger: Rageborn Daredevil
    • Wild Hunter: Gear Storm
    • Battle Mage: Gloomy Aura
    • Blaster: Vanguard Impact
    • Demon Slayer: Amethystine Intrusion
    • Cadena: Brutal Ravage
    • Angelic Buster: Genuine Encore
    • Kain: Malicious Flicker
    • Kaiser: Pyro Instinct
    • Zero: Bitemporis
    • Ark: Whisper of the Absolute Abyss
    • Illium: Excidium
    • Adele: Einheit
    • Khali: Void Awake
    • Kinesis: Fractal Horizon
    • Hoyoung: Thousand Year Mischievous Spirit (천세휘령)
    • Lara: Overflow (안다미로)
    • Len: Falling Plum Blossom, Heavenly Trace (일매낙화 천비인적)
  • It’s been about 2 years since the New Age update added 6th job and gave everyone an Origin Skill, which drastically changed MapleStory’s combat. Since then, we know many players wanted new 6th job attack skills, but they needed to focus first on enhancing 5th job and lower skills. That’s why he said at the Next showcase when they released the final 2 Mastery Cores that they were preparing for what was next.
  • Ascent Skills have three special features:
    • 1. They can only be used 3 times in a boss fight, but there is no cooldown so you can expend all 3 usages in a row if you want.
    • 2. Their damage is not affected by other skills or buffs.
    • 3. They are invincibility skills.
  • While Origin Skills have a set ‘right’ way to use them, which is just to burst every 6 minutes, the Ascent Skills’ features make them powerful burst attacking skills that can be used flexibly as you wish. For example, if you are confident in your damage, you can just use it three times in a row and be done with it. If you are in a certain phase of a boss and you want to finish off a bit of HP, you can use it once. If you need more survivability, you can save them to use as iframes.
  • Since Ascent Skills are not affected by other buffs, there’s no loss even if you use them off burst. And also, each party member has 3 uses, so it adds more strategy by deciding who uses theirs when.
  • In terms of visual effects, they wanted to show off each character’s strength in a short cutscene while connecting the in-game character to the illustration.

New Boss: The First Adversary

  • The third patch for this update will add a new boss, The First Adversary. Along with a new job and new skills, a new boss was highly requested.
  • The First Adversary will be a new boss in Odium. Previously, in the story, Hundun simply gave you the World Heart that replaced the Seal Stone, but they thought that was too easy for such a powerful object to be handed to you. They wanted to improve the narrative as well as add a new boss, so now, you will face the First Adversary within the World Heart, and it will test you before you gain its power.
  • This is a level 270 boss, faced in a party of 3 or less players.
  • The previous boss Baldrix was level 290, but they wanted to add a boss that many players could enjoy challenging, so they set it as a lower tier boss. They put some of the difficulty into the boss design instead.
  • There will be 4 difficulties: Easy Mode (between Easy Kalos and Hard Seren), Normal Mode (between Normal Kalos and Extreme Suu), Hard Mode (between Normal Baldrix and Hard Kaling), and Extreme Mode (between Hard Baldrix and Extreme Kaling).
  • The new reward from this boss (Hard and Extreme Mode only) is a new Brilliant Boss accessory: Immortal Legacy Medal which can be flamed.
    • Level 250 Medal
      10 all stats
      500 HP/MP
      10 attack/magic attack
      10% boss damage
  • The 3-set Brilliant Boss effect is 20 all stats, 500 HP, 20 attack/magic attack, and 15% defense ignore.
  • In addition, Extreme Mode can drop the Exceptional Hammer: Medal.
  • They have not added a new type of medal in a long time, and they made it the only flameable medal as well. Since the set effect is a little less effective and the other two pieces need to be Star Forced, they wanted to make it a bit more accessible and valuable.

Assemble Improvements

  • Job story quest skip feature.
    • They thought about this a lot but many first-time players quit the game during the tutorial because of some of the lengthy story quests. So to avoid this, they have added a skip feature.
  • Cross World boss content expansion (Damien/Guardian Angel Slime/Lucid/Will/Dusk/Jin Hilla/Dunkel).
  • Regular world instanced hunting ground expansion (Arcane River & all level 60+ hunting grounds).
  • Weekly content reset date unified (Sunday -> Thursday).
    • This includes Arcane weeklies, Mu Lung Dojo, and the Union weekly quest.
  • Gameplay improvements:
    • Automatic AP distribution when you level up.
    • Use the storage directly from the inventory.
    • Black Mage entry material removal.
    • Debuffs applied to bosses display visibility improvements.
    • Can now apply 2 types of each boss combat/wealth acquisition potions.
    • Spirit Pendant preparation time removal.
  • Dynamic map reorganization:
    • <Treasure Hunter> content that replaces Bounty Hunting/Flame Wolf.
    • New enhancement Rune <Rune of Blessings>.
  • Monster Park reorganization:
    • Grandis area additions (level 260, 265, 270).
    • Coin supply improvements.
  • Hair/Face/Outfits gender restriction removal with the Free Style Coupon.
  • Buff Sequence (use items and buffs with a single button).
  • When you enter a boss, skill cooldowns will be reset.
    • Also fills up your job gauge.
  • Cash Storage unified between all jobs.
  • Super Tutorial (prepared to guide new players from character creation to level 260).
  • Mobile to PC MapleStory Remote Access Play.
    • You can remote access to play MapleStory from your phone (your PC must be running).
    • It’s not meant to replace your PC but it gives you the opportunity to do things like your dailies, event check ins, entering the VIP Sauna, quickly from your phone.

Events

  • The new job Len can be Hyper Burned.
  • You can get a second Hyper Burning Max through the summer event attendance check.
  • The new event, Burning Beyond gives 1+1 level ups from level 260 to 270.
    • This event is designed to help players level up past 260 slightly easier since it sort of becomes a dead end after Hyper Burning is over.
    • It also gives rewards like Authentic Symbols, Sol Erda-related items, etc.
  • The main summer event is called the Twilight Eve Festival.
    • For those of you who are familiar with the story, Grandis has a third Transcendent: Chronica, which has never been revealed. This event is based on their story and awakening their power.
    • When they were designing this event, they thought about what event players most liked and wanted, and a big one was the Black Mage update where players worked together to collect Desire to fill up the gauges.
    • Since it’s based on Chronica, players will be collecting Sands of Time, and as they do, Chronica’s power will gradually awaken and the event rewards/benefits will increase.
    • Individual Events:
      • Attendance check
      • Stats/content time-limited skill
      • Boss coin shop/hunting event.
    • Collaboration Events:
      • Individual:
        • Individual participation rewards
        • Event coin shop
      • All:
        • All achievement rewards
        • Time-limited stat enhancements
    • Evernia’s Gifts (the attendance check) lasts for 3 months.
    • The Awakening Power of Time event needs you to defeat 10k mobs per week and solo bosses to collect Sands of Time.
      • Every week, there are additional benefits that unlock based on everyone’s participation, which stack with things like your own temp stat skill and Sunday Maple. There’s even new benefits like increased Epic Dungeon experience.
  • Challengers World Season 2
    • Comparing Milestone’s Burning World to Next’s Challengers World, there was a 69% increase in number of users, a 93% increase in the number of level 200 users, and a 282% increase in the number of level 260 users.
    • The key goal of the changes made this time for Challengers World was to improve late-game progression. It was quite good at the beginning but as you progressed, it became slower and more inefficient.
    • The maximum score has been increased from 40k to 75k.
    • More bosses have been added as challenges.
    • The Challengers World buff gives additional stats (summon duration, skill cooldown, 2x guild contribution) and will be increased as you reach higher ranks.
    • There is also the Mysterious Barrier, which gives additional stats for Challengers World only.
    • A new Challengers Pass has been added that gives additional rewards in Challengers World to support growth.
    • The Challengers World Coin Shop has been updated with additional items.
    • The Challengers World rank rewards have been enhanced, with things like the 100% Karma Unique Additional Potential Scroll (Level 200), 70 Karma Black Cubes, 60 Karma White Additional Cubes, 13 Sol Erda, and 600 Sol Erda Fragments.
  • A new Genesis Pass has been added that costs 30k NX. If you buy it, you can shorten the minimum time it takes to liberate from 11 weeks to 4 weeks.
    • You get 3x the Traces of Darkness.
    • You can do the liberation missions with 6 people.
    • You get a special buff while doing liberation missions.
    • You will receive a Commander Soul that has guaranteed % attack/magic attack of your choice.
  • The Maple Agit will be a permanent MapleStory PC cafe in Seoul. It won’t just be a PC cafe, they want it to be a place where you can enjoy multiple MapleStory related things and events.

Better than NEXT update that has most new contents only catered for 1% players. Assemble update overall stands out compared to Milestone or even Dreamer, with a new class, new hexa skill and new boss that’s catered for 50% players.

Yes it seems to be like an extra equipment part that you can get lots of stats from (the one in the showcase showed 105 STR/90 DEX/116 attack/40% STR)

Ascent skills are cool but I don’t want any more active skills, I’m burned out on new characters after Tanjiro and Mo Xuan, Challenger’s world doesn’t appeal to me, and the new boss won’t be accessible to me for a long time.

Aside from some of the QoL changes, this feels like a really underwhelming summer update.

    Thanks for the translations, Max.

personally not liking the content is not a reason to call this an underwhelming patch objectively, a new boss, 6th job skill, massive qol, new class, something for everyone to enjoy, sounds like you are just complaining to complain

There’s no such thing as objectively underwhelming. Finding something underwhelming is a negative opinion. It’s subjective by default. I don’t find it appealing, therefore it’s underwhelming.

It’s like going to a positive comment and replying with “Personally liking the content is not a reason to call this a great patch… sounds like you’re praising it just to rave.”

i was expecting so much more for some reason i don’t think it was enough, many classes still need attention (phantom, kaiser, resistance) and systems require improvements like flames, crafting, star force now that goes higher.
I thought warrior were going to be a monkey but i guess they didn’t want the obvious. Other than that, cool job, i hope boss is fun.

consider they take the buff sequence and the HEXA 2 would be a buff that could differentiate the jobs for job balance but they only bring all job’s a massive AOE, really dissapointed in this part but the QoL change is good though

aren’t all origin skills just big burst skills that also bind? this seems pretty irrelevant to bring up that every class gets essentially the same thing but a different flavor since origin is the same thing

Different anon but I do kinda agree with the sentiment. If they make every new Hexa skill homogenized between all characters then by the time the system is complete, every character is going to feel very similar to each other. They need to add more variety in skill types or every character is going to feel the same.
