KMST ver. 1.2.178 – Tallahart & the Long Awaited Balance Patch!
Last Wednesday, the test server was updated with the new level 290 area Tallaheart and much more importantly, the first real balance patch since before New Age, which was way back in June 2023, so it’s been almost 1.5 years! (if you don’t include 6th job and the new Mastery Cores) Changseop also did a Maple Now stream talking about their plans for balance going forward.
I saw that some people were wondering why my post was later than it usually is, and it’s actually because my apartment got flooded the day after the patch 😭 Woke up excited about the Wind Breaker buffs and then a city pipe burst… Thankfully not too much was ruined but I still can’t go home until they fix it, so I’ve just been working on this in pieces in my free time on my laptop. Anyways, life goes on, they add more QoL, a new high level area people will complain is too high level, Bishop support gets nerfed… wait what?!

The second and last patch of the MapleStory Milestone update has been released, featuring the new boss, Limbo, as well as the rest of the Ethernal set, Hexa Stat Core II, and a few other additions.
The next update (test server patch should be around August 7) will be for the new Epic Dungeon: Angler Company, and the Talaheart story event. I think this might be similar to Glory where they let everyone experience Cernium through an event before adding it as a permanent area for higher levels.

The new test server patch has been released featuring the new boss, Limbo! Normal Mode has already been cleared by a few parties and I believe there’s a party that was close to beating Hard Mode. It also has various other additions such as Hexa Stat II, the buff display settings feature, and the boss cutscene skip feature. Director Changseop had a Maple Now stream as well.
A few things to note that are not all related to this patch:
- Kobe and Steve have been unbanned (yay) so business will resume as usual!
- They released the beta MacOS client on the test server a couple of weeks ago. No timeline on when it will be released to the official server yet though.
- Nexon has applied for a new trademark titled ‘MapleStory Memories 2005’. It could mean nothing but also maybe an official pre-Big Bang client? The user-created MapleLand (in MapleStory Worlds) has been very popular so maybe they want to make their own version.
- In this patch, certain parts of the game data have been encrypted, meaning they can no longer be datamined. If they continue with this and encrypt the rest of it, I probably will not be able to extract items/skills/effects anymore so all screenshots will have to be taken manually in-game, which will be both more work and a lot less comprehensive. For example, I won’t be able to extract any gifs for anything from Limbo (which is sad because the visuals are amazing).
KMS ver. 1.2.392 – MapleStory Milestone: Flowers Blooming in the Moonlight!

The first patch of the summer update, Milestone, has been released, featuring the Flowers Blooming in the Moonlight: Aran & Eunwol Remaster. It also contains various game system changes and improvements, as well as the main summer event One Page in Memory, themed around the pasts of the Black Mage’s commanders.
In other news, many of you might have heard about Steve (x3TheAran59) and Kobe (iSIingGunz)’s account issues. While I am lucky enough to still be able to play, depending on what response they get, that might change. If I’m no longer able to play the game with my friends, it really would have a huge effect on my motivation going forward, and I may choose to quit as well. And if I do that, I think I would probably no longer be doing any of this either (i.e. translating KMS updates and writing this blog). It would feel really weird to continue to translate updates for a version that I would not be playing. Nothing confirmed either way yet but I just wanted to share my brief thoughts for now.

The second test world patch has been released, with further changes to the Aran & Eunwol remasters as well as a bunch of game system changes and improvements. Unfortunately it seems like most Aran and Eunwol players are still dissatisfied and with only one more week until the live server release, it doesn’t seem like there’s much possibility that it can be made significantly better by then…
Meanwhile, for regular servers, the new Additional Potential reset system is really expensive and they added way more expensive Bonus Rewards for Epic Dungeons which is of course making regular server players mad too.
